Well, dear friends -- Hainsies and Kimlets, all -- I am THUNDERSTRUCK.
Yes, you read it correctly.
THUNDERSTRUCK!
I'm certain a few of you might suspect why, but I'll tell you. I've been "playing", mind you -- playing with a new electronic toy. To wit, I've been experimenting with my new HD DVD PLAYER.
I must tell you.....yes, I must.....that I've truly been enjoying my DVD collection the past three months. Seeing these movies on a plasma 37-inch HD TV has been northing short of amazing and revelatory. I've seen much-loved movies in a new fresh way...catching details never before suspected and enjoying the vibrancy of colors and composition that eluded me on my valiant, steadfast Sony 19-inch.
And I must confess I was "told" that these same DVDs, if played through a high-end high-def DVD player -- be it Blu-Ray or HD DVD -- would be an even more stunning experience. This, of course, would be dependent upon the quality of the standard DVD.
I was hopeful...and I was willing to take a chance.
I wasn't, though, prepared for how thunderstruck -- yes, THUNDERSTRUCK -- I would be at the breathtakingly sharp, nearly three-dimensional effects I would gain.
My first DVD was nothing I'd seen before -- a Miss Marple (Geraldine McEwan) mystery called "The Sittaford Mystery." WOW! These Marples are anamorphic and are crisp, clean and wonderful In my limited experience, only the over-the-air HD broadcasts of "Ugly Betty" and "Lost" ever matched the depth of the image I experienced due to the increased resolution and dynamic sharpness this HD DVD player provided.
I then turned to something I love -- something I've raved about here and other places -- something I'd know was different IF it were different.
I turned to "South Pacific".
Oh.
My.
God.
The visual dynamics are extraordinary. New depth, new detail, new definition....unbelieveable.
I don't care what format any of you may choose. I URGE you, if you can at all upgrade your DVD viewing by acquiring one of the newer, lower-priced high-definition players, to take the plunge and experience a major HIGH in the home cinema experience.
It's half past midnight and I'm all atingle. I could stay up all night and watch a couple of more films, I could.
But I won't. I'm going to have to settle down, sleep a bit and take things at a leisurely pace.
And that ain't easy when you've been THUNDERSTRUCK....again!
