Last night I completed watching the First Season set of what is now one of my very favorite television shows of all time:  SLINGS & ARROWS.  I had been reading the praises heaped upon this show for some time now by DR Elmore and other HHW'ers and I finally ordered the set last month and began watching it Monday night.  OMGYG--it is so wonderful!  It's funny and sexy and moving and best of all it reminded me of all the things that I ever loved about acting and theatre.  I found myself overcome with laughter and joy and tears during the final two episodes I watched last night.  I absolutely hated it to end.

I've already ordered Seasons 2 and 3.  I can't wait for their arrival!

My eternal thanks to all you HHW'ers out there who made me aware of SLINGS & ARROWS!

Good morning!

It was cool enough this morning for me to open the doors and windows and cool the house down! That was a big surprise!

Because I'm leaving this afternoon for a one night's stay in Winston-Salem while attending a production of THE FULL MONTY, I had to get that $&^*^$#$%^%$ kitchen floor mopped early, but now it's done with, and I can relax. I still plan to head out around 11:30 to do my usual Friday errands, but otherwise, we're leaving around 4 this afternoon. I should be back tomorrow in the early afternoon.

Just a reminder that PSYCH and MONK return for their new seasons tonight. MONK is at 9 and PSYCH at 10, just like last season. I'll have to set the DVR to pick them up since I won't be here to watch them "live."

Ooo, the suspense is killing me:

My library has 98 copies of the new Harry Potter audiobook (CD) on order and I'm #116 on the waiting list.

So, will I have my copy before DH Richard and I leave for our drive to Wisconsin on July 29?

Doubtful, but, to quote the kid in Angels in the Outfield, "It could happen!"

Would any HHW-er and/or William Faulkner collector  ;D like a still sealed DVD of Land of the Pharoahs for, say, $8 including shipping (that's less than I paid)?  Due to a hilarious mix-up (not), I have an extra.  Email me at:

Can Potter readers dodge the plot spoilers?

I haven't read the article but I have already changed my home pages on IE 7 and Firefox from the news pages I usually read to blank Google pages. They will stay that way until I finish Harry Potter. I remember being furious at one of the news services during the last season of Six Feet Under because I hadn't yet seen a particular episode and the headline gave away a crucial plot point. This was before the episode had even been broadcast. I also had trouble with Sopranos spoilers from a couple of months ago. That's when I decided to go to blank Google pages.

I look forward to PSYCH but I am sooooo over that masturbatory series MONK by now.  He jumped the shark two seasons ago with the rock concert episode and now I believe the show's survival only proves PT Barnum right.

I watch for the one or two decent episodes that somehow sneak their way into the rest of the season. Last season, I thnk there were two I thought were okay.

PSYCH is so delightful that I'm already chuckling in anticipation of it.

DR Ben - :)

The article does not give away any plot spoilers.  It basically echoes DR Dan (the Man)'s comments from a few weeks ago...your best bet is to buy the book and read it immediately, cutting yourself off from all media until you have finished!

I just realized the other day that the day the new Harry Potter book is released, July 21st, is a Saturday.  Which means that I will not get my hands on my long ago ordered copy from Amazon until the following Monday, since it will be delivered to my office.  I could spring for another copy to be delivered to home, but I doubt that there is any guarantee that it will arrive on that day anyway.  Arrrrgh!!!

I got some actual customer service from DirecTV yesterday--they're upgrading to something like 70 HD channels and needed to do a dish upgrade.  A guy came out first thing yesterday morning and installed the new dish with no hassles (and no charge).  The good thing is I get some of my local HD broadcast channels now right off the dish (instead of off air) and the reception is much better.  No more pixellated Losts.  ;)

Edi, re:  Casino Royale.  Not sure if you meant Bacharach's music was substandard, but the inimitable (not) lyric was by Hal David, of course.  But, as BK insisted about The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, "It was a big hit."  (I tease because I love).   ;D

I think David's lyric for Casino ranks right up there with his stellar (???) work on Baby Elephant Walk with Henry Mancini.

I have joined the throng and pre-ordered a copy of HP from Barnes & Noble. I have a $50 gift card from my office which I got for recording the new voice mail messages here. I plan on using that to purchase the book. I'm excited to read it and I'll pick it up early Saturday (not at Midnight) and read, read, read, although that's not the way I wanted to read it. I certainly would have started right away but I wanted to savor the book. Now I feel if I don't read it all by Sunday morning I risk having plot points ruined. The excitement has gotten a bit out of hand, IMHO.

My strategy is to go to my local Stop & Shop [grocery store] very early that Saturday morning.  No lines and no kids.  :)  That's how I've purchased the last two volumes.

I think the Potter excitement is actually fantastic. Imagine people getting so worked up over READING! Anything that does that is good, I think. Of course, in the Bible Belt, we do have letters to the editor almost daily now proclaiming its very evil nature of brainwashing kids by forcing magic, witches, and wizards on them.

I'm sure the publishing industry has its eyes wide open for the next Harry Potter-type phenomenon to come along.

That's a good idea, DR Singdaw.  The book will be sold everywhere.  I could probably pick up a copy at the CVS around the corner from me.

Oh yes, you're absolutely right. I have to chalk up that error to having just spent 5 hours in a hot bar. The leslie for the Hammond B3 did provide a bit of air circulation...

In David's defense, that tune is extremely assymetrical and finding a decent rhyme scheme, especially with those short phrases right at the beginning, must have been difficult.  Still......   :P
