Many, many years ago, the Guthrie Theater did Shakespeare's History Cycle - Richard II, Henry IV and Henry V.

It was a big repertory company, with some actors playing starring roles in one play, and lesser roles in the other plays, so we got to see every actor's acting range. (Kind of fun, that.)

On selected days... Sundays, I think... they did the entire History Cycle in one day. Nine hours of theater, interupted by an hour for dinner.

THe last performance was one of those cycle days, and I went to see it, even though I'd seen each individual play. And it was spectacular. The actors got a standing ovation after the first play, and after the second play.

For Henry V, a single chorus usually comes on stage and says the lines.  The way the late, great Garland Wright staged it, every actor in the company was on stage as the chorus.  When the lights brightened and the audience saw the actors standing on stage, they all stood up, before the play even started, and gave them another standing ovation.  And then they got one at the end of the play as well.

But then, that was for nine hours worth of work on one day....

I have little idea about what I'm going to be cooking for dinner tonight.

Making things more complicated, I have to deal with tomorrow's dinner as well, since I've the late shift at work (off at 10:30 pm).

So, tonight I can get complicated, but tomorrow has to be simple.

That still leaves me with no food ideas.

This is not the right time to be reading The Zen of Fish, which is all about sushi (but contains no recipes).

*sigh*

And der B is insisting I find myself a new shrink, since we still haven't replaced the one who moved to Dover.

DR Jane - :)
Every time you post photos of Sherlock, I just want to hug him and roll around on the floor with him.

I feel the same about Ralph Fiennes...

Nope, I've done them in "best" mode, and, strangely, there's virtually no difference, time-wise (and, frankly, quality wise) between draft and best, at least on this computer.

Hmmm...I guess it's my PC then.  It's seven years old and slow.

Back to the costs of NYC lodgings:

DR Jose, and any other New Yorkers, please do let us know of any booking agencies or websites that you think we could trust for non-hotel accommodations.

Has anyone had any experience with

sublet.com?

I've also posted an inquiry to

Manhattan Getaways

but have not yet had a response.

Another (gasp!) drastic approach I've considered is to stay outside Manhattan and commute in.  Any insights?

RE STANDING O.s,In Ann Arbor, with  the visiting RSC,at the end of Henry VI, 1,2,&3,f/b Richard III, there was something like a roar, then the s.o, but this was after 4  plays in three days;..... Usually, I'll end up standing at a play in NYC, cause I'm in row 3 and the folks in row 1 & 2 are on their feet and I want to see(I'm 5'7). It's possible that some people thought Being Alive was the end of the show, but given Mr Esparza's loyal fan base, there was probably a lot of you-shoulda-won -the -Tony mixed in with that . Sometimes if I'm seated in the front row , I'll clap with my hands held higher, so the cast will know I'm extra enthusiastic(if they're interested) The who-hoo-hooting, esp during a play, is just cringe-making.

DR Ginny, we folk who live here don't need such agencies!  Aren't there any tourist boards where Manhattan visitors discuss such things?

DR MBarnum - he was in the second Broadway show I ever saw - 40 years ago - Funny Girl, with Mimi Hines as Fanny.

I saw the same production. She was Streisand's replacement, and he was Sydney Chaplin's (who left the production fairly early as I recall; I don't think he and Barbra got along very well).

Yes, DR Elmore, and one of the suggestions I found there is to ask your friends in NYC to keep their eyes open for notices on the bulletin boards in their home and office buildings!

I thoroughly enjoyed HARRY POTTER AND THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX. Everyone has grown up! I was SO shocked to see how tall Neville and Draco and Dudley had gotten! Wow!

Having read the entire book before I saw the film, I'm SO glad I did because I thought some things were just a trifle rushed in the film to speed things along, and reading the book allowed me not to feel like I was playing catch up.

Wonderful new characters (and actors playing them): Dolores, Beatrix, Luna.

I will enjoy revisiting this many times once the Blu-ray comes out at holiday time.

Had a nice meeting this morning, have packaged up everything that needed packaging and will shortly be on my way to the post office then to the two-thirty rehearsal, then to an early dinner meeting, then HOME, SWEET HOME, where I shall polish David's rewrites, and try to do the two he didn't get to.  Then it's more proofing, and then maybe I'll have time to watch a motion picture on DVD, albeit a short one.

My friend Hal and I went to a restaurant called Ruf's for lunch. I'd never been there, and I ended up getting this enormous bacon/Swiss burger. I felt like a blimp walking out of the place.

I did have time to watch one MOONLIGHTING episode when I got back. This one had David and Maddie trying to solve the murder of a late night deejay playing by Gregg Henry. Enjoyable mystery through it was very easy to guess whodunit.

I've been trying to get Forget-Me-Not Lane from Netflix. Don't know what the problem is. I keep requesting it and they keep not sending it.

I'm sure I'll have some opinions later this evening. After hearing such good things from several folks, my interest is really keen to watch it.

Spoo!  It's too bad the cartel isn't still renting out the apartment of the jailed Argentinian drug dealer on the top floor of my building.  I'm not kidding here.

I need to head downstairs now to check the mail (hadn't come yet when I came upstairs at 4:15 p.m.), clean the dining room, and then settle in for some evening viewing.
