Thanks for mentioning that, Matt! I wish I could have watched the announcement but I was driving to work.

The episode she was recognized for was SLIPPIN', about the teenagers in the SUV who were shot as they drove through gang turf.

TNT got 11 nominations, all together. Yay!

Jon Cryer announced her nomination (she was standing beside him announcing the male nominees), and she was clearly thrilled/giddy with excitement. I couldn't have been happier for her.

I was very pleased with a couple of "surprise" nominations:

Neil Patrick Harris for best supporting comedy actor in HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER

Three supporting females in GREY'S ANATOMY got nominations: Katherine Heigl, Sandra Oh, Chandra Wilson. (Also two female guest stars: Kate Burton among them).

Today I'll watch another MOONLIOGHTING episode. I want to finish LOVE IS THE DEVIL. I have a little less than 30 minutes left of it. I will watch another Esther Williams movie, likely EASY TO WED.

Tonight on AMC is a new series called MAD MEN, a new series about a group of ad men in the 1960s. It's gotten rave reviews, and I'll be recording it so I can blaze through commercials.

Good morning, all!  I've been on the phone since 7:20 this morning and I slept badly over my MySpace debacle yesterday.  So, any and all vibes for lease and morale are appreciated.

The 7:20 phone call was semi-good news about potential work and I neede to rally the team today.  Shortly, I have to run down to the padlocked Toyland and deal with a few things, make a few telephonic calls and learn what - if any - fresh hell results from yesterday's embarassment.  I can only say that I unwisely, out of sheer ignorance, contacted someone  that I should not have and there may be unpleasant fallout.  Mr Farrow, former DR here, very snidely and aggressively pointed out my failures in computer etiquette on the Cast Recording List, and I live in fear that something similar will happen after yesterday.  It isn't that I deserve the chastisement, I'm mortified that it occurred.

TOD:
  CANDIDE (OBC)
  ALBERT HERRING
  CARMEN (de los Angeles/Beecham, p'raps)
  NOZZE DI FIGARO (Schwartzkopf/Giulini)
  TOSCA (Callas/Serafin)
THE BARBER OF SEVILLE (de los Angeles/Glyndebourne)
  SHOW BOAT (EMI/Angel)
  LOST IN BOSTON 1
  UNSUNG MUSICALS 1
  GUY HAINES

  POULENC GLORIA

What was the myspace debacle and what was the cast recording thing about - which page of posts was this on yesterday?  I thought I'd read them all, but in my busy-ness yesterday I may have inadvertantly missed something.

DR Elmore, I hope everything resolves itself today in your favor. I join the choir who says don't let your personal stuff go into storage. Someone might decide to stop paying the bills and presto, your stuff is out on the street. This has happened several times with films I've worked on...valuable stuff went into a dumpster. (Had I known, I could have made a fortune on EBay!)

I agree completely.  I licensed Spaceship to a German company, and agreed to let them hold the print at a lab in LA for the duration of the five-year license.  The five years is now up, the German company is out of business and, more importantly, they never paid the lab the storage fees and the lab sold the print.  Needless to say, I was furious at the lab for at least not contacting me (I'm on the lab agreement letter), but legally they contacted the German company numerous times to no response.

Who did elmore call that he shouldn't have?  Why did Stephen Farrow castigate him - someone link me, baby, link me.

Good Morning!

I'm up, I'm up...  And I have to say that my parents' new place has good acoustics.  I was amazed at how well Emily's crying carried this morning throughout the house.  ;)

My, my LAURA, what an adventure you had in the mud! Quite the visual image: DR LAURA jumping out of the car, which was out of control, to shoo away the cows.

And, as you yourself pointed out the other day, you know all the great places!

As for the Topic of the Day...

1) Barber - Knoxville: Summer of 1915 - Dawn Upshaw (I could do without the Harbison song cycle on this disc, but the rest of it is wonderfully accompanied and beautifully sung.)

2) Debussy  - Preludes, Complete (Books 1 and 2) - Walter Gieseking

3) Billy Joel - "An Innocent Man"

4) A Chorus Line OCR

5) Ella Fitzgerald - "...Sings The Harold Arlen Songbook"

6) Sunday in the Park with George OCR

7) Florence Foster Jenkins - "The Glory (???) of the Human Voice" - If I was stranded on a desert island, I think some laughter would be a good thing.

8) Beethoven - Piano Sonatas; Richard Goode, pianist.  I would like to take the complete boxed set with me, but if I had to restrict it to one disc, I would like the Op. 31 set.

9) Mussorgsky - "Pictures at an Exhibition" - Vladimir Horowitz, pianist.

10) Violet OCR

*Bonus CD:  A homemade recording of John Michael singing "mystery", with Alyssa "singing" back-up ("Stop that, John!") and Emily crying in the background.

-And if I had to pick a "Carmen" to bring along with me, I'd choose the set with Troyanos, Domingo, Te Kanawa and Van Damn, conducted by Solti.

This brings up an ethical discussion my DH and I had yesterday. He had a dream that a kid backed into his car where he was working and damaged the door. The kid came back into the studio to tell DH who had happened. Since the kid could have just taken off, like many would, but made the decision not to, DH felt like he should be rewarded for doing the right thing.

He said that he would let the kid's parent know what happened, but offer to split the cost of repair, since DH would have had to shoulder the whole cost if the kid had not been honest.

I thought that it would teach the kid more responsibility if he had to pay the whole amount, and I wouldn't tell the parents.

Thinking about this later, I started to believe my DH had the better solution. But what was most interesting to me about it is that real parents deal with these kind of decisions every single day. Hats off to all parents/grandparents/uncles/aunts, etc. who take the time to help raise our kids right!

DR edisaurus - I think it would all depend on who had the better insurance policy.  :)

Best Drama Series: BOSTON LEGAL, HEROES, HOUSE, THE SOPRANOS, GREY'S ANATOMY.

No LOST, no DEADWOOD, no DEXTER, no THE SHIELD, no BROTHERS & SISTERS, no '24' (which did have a below average season), no CSI, no FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS (which others love but I don't watch).

That's ridiculous!  As much as I liked and enjoyed HEROES, it was no way as well written, directed or acted as LOST.

Haven't had a chance to catch up on the posts, but does anyone else find it ironic that it's Deep Discount, whose shipping isn't exactly speedy, that managed to get 1200 copies of Harry Potter to everyone a week early?   ;D

Did anyone download the PDF version of the book yesterday?

And amazing, I do NOT know of a Brasilian jazz version of the soundtrack to Caligula, though I imagine Cathy Berberian (remember her?) might have done the vocals, if one were indeed ever released.

I'm about to call a car service to take me to the airport. Let's keep our fingers crossed that when I get to said airport, my plane will still be scheduled to leave on time....

If you get Gudda, the Egyptian, tell him Mike says hello...and I am still waiting for the two Arabic husband's he promised me!

Hope your trip is fun DR Jason!
