Yesterday is the first Aug 6 in my memory when no publuc notice was made of the anniversary of the attack on Hiroshima.

When word of the attack filtered back to the US, there was an initial presumption that the war was over. I found this event most distressing - I had been promised a pony ride on my Birthday (8 Aug), and the Seaside Park, NJ summer concessions all closed for the celebration.

Imagine what the news coverage would have looked like given today's technology. In those good old days, the only moving picture testimonials available were those provided by the motion picture houses, many days after an international event. (Of course this was a decided improvment over our early days of Independence  when news of the Napoleonic Wars had to travel by ship to Philadelphia.)

Imagine: Napoleon Loses at Waterloo - film at 11!

There was a peace vigil here in rememberance of Hiroshima, with candles and prayers.  It made the news here as well

Good morning!

Another scorching day here, and I plan to spend the entire day indoors except to get the mail.

Friday is forecast to be our coolest day this week with a high of 92.

It is very humid here and I have a headache. Another night of disturbing dreams. I'm getting sick of this.  I actually dreamed about my ex-husband.  We got divorced in 1989 and I sometimes forget I was even married.  What on earth is he doing in my dreams?   In my dream he was married with 2 kids...In reality, I have no idea where he is now..probably in Connecticut somewhere, that's where he was from.

I think I'll go for a walk and get some coffee and take an Aleve.

The happiest of anniversaries to Ben and Ant.  It is encouraging to know there are still such joys to celebrate.  Love to you both

Yesterday I mentioned a couple of favorite side dishes which happened to be fried foods so I won't repeat those.

The best fried chicken I've ever had (other than my mom's) is served right here in Charlotte at a place called Price's Chicken Coop. I'm sure it's a cardiologist's dream for folks to get chicken from there (it's a walk-in/take out place, not a sit-down restaurant). The best chicken I've ever tasted.

A family-style restaurant near me called Tryon House makes the best fried squash I've ever had. I always get it when I go there.

I've still never had fried Snicker bars and other fried candy bars. I'd love to try them some time, but so far in my life, the opportunity hasn't presented itself for me to have one.

So glad to read you're feeling better DR Elmore. Once one moves past fifty, health issues seem to be a lot more at the fore of one's life.

elmore brings up an interesting point - it's something I rarely do in auditions, unless I think someone is really right for it, and then I might say something.  But, after having to really, really work so hard with the last Fred, I just don't want to cast someone who basically isn't what I'm looking for - while I might be able to get them to do what's necessary, they're still not necessarily going to be right for it.

No weird dreams for me last night (well, unless you count the Delta airplane landing at our local Middletown airport...), but I was awake from before 3am until after 4am - I heard the kitchen clock chime both hours.  Of course, when the alarm went off at 5:30, I was sound asleep!

Well, I slept a long time, didn't I - just got up fifteen minutes ago, although I was up every now and then during the evening (still not used to the bed), and I had the oddest dreams all night.

Tonight is the third episode in Gelnn CLose's new DAMAGES series which I'm enjoying. Hopefully, I won't need the recap to put the characters back into my head. After two weeks, I'm starting to remember all of the tangled relationships in the story.

But, my first appointment isn't until one, so I'm fine.  I'll have to leave here at twelve-thirty, so I'll start getting ready in a half-hour or so.

Well I didn't just have weird dreams last night. I woke up at 3:00 AM and just KNEW I wouldn't be able to get back to sleep unless I got up and brushed my teeth again.   So I did, and I did get right back to sleep.  Too bizarre

I have three more episodes of THE TICK to watch today, and then I'll dive right into Cría Cuervos. It's a two disc set, so I'll just watch the movie today, and work on the special features tomorrow.

Urban librarian observation:  Even a week at a seminary didn't increase my tolerance of the bottom-feeders.

TPUNK,
Good luck with your cough. Drink lots and lots and lots of water. I'm always amazed at how much I can accomplish just by drinking lots of water. It's great for getting rid of a cough.

TOD;

I've long tried to avoid fried foods, but I admit to a love of Indian pakoras. I am also fond of fish and chips. Not a French-fry lover--I just like fish and chips.

Matt: Hve you ever tried this?

International Festival-UNC Charlotte

Quote
The festival is centered around booths arranged in colorful marketplace style representing the cultures of about 50 nations. The booths are staffed by UNC Charlotte international students and members of Charlotte's international community and feature art, crafts and costumes from each participating country. Many booths offer international food for sale.

Same weather here, DR GINNY.

So walking around in my leather costume shouldn't be as terrible as it was last night.

Will we be getting a picture of you in your leather gear DR JRand?
