lame or lame (as in gold) -- doesn't matter, we're talking about gold lacy French panites here ... (singing) I say pa-ta-ter, you say potato. I say sweat, you say perspire ....

You mean "pitted out"?

It got up to 102 here yesterday, an all-time record for that date. The highest ever recorded temperature for Charlotte is 104, so yesterday was something else. It's going to be near-100 today as well.

We'll have a high of 101 today. Yuck....

This just in:

No cactus paddles!!!

When the chef went to the market this morning, they were covered in ants, so he decided not to buy them.

We will still have the patatas, Jose!

:(  But the ants add some nice texture as well as a trace of protein and pesticides.

I wonder if ROOM 222 could be in the works some day???

The first movie I ever worked on starred Michael Constantine. He played a real a$$hole, but he was the sweetest man in person!

DR Miss Karen - we'll be on 54th, just west of Ninth Ave., very close to the Julia Miles Theater, venue for DR Noel's Such Good Friends.

And we'll be at 57th and 7th, right close to y'all!

Hmm... It's currently just 81 degrees here in New York City.  I may just have to head to the Reservoir for a jog. -And since I haven't jogged in a while, I may just take a nice brisk walk.

*Alas, the rain is due back tonight, and there's a possibility that there could be another downpour tomorrow morning which could wreak havoc on the subway system again. :-\

TOD:

The best mac'n'cheese I've ever had was from a recipe a friend gave me. I used to cook it quite often, but haven't done so in ages.

Not only do I agree with JOSE about the layered mac, I am absolutely APPALLED that anyone would just layer it, without making an actual cream sauce. Horrors! (The things we do when pressed for time.)

It was 102 degrees here yesterday, plus humid. Ugh! Heat index at 108. It was like a furnace.

And the "squiggly": ñ

A.K.A. the tilde.

I'm up, I'm up... I must've tuckered myself out yesterday at LEGALLY BLONDE because I passed out in my recliner last night while I was reading (God, I'm starting to sound like an old man!) at around 3:00 this morning. I woke up long enough to get myself into bed at around 4:00, and then my friend Amy drunk dialed me from San Francisco at 4:45. I was not happy and I did not take her call. Anyway, I just woke up about an hour ago... I was tie-red!

And...my book is waiting for me at the library. :D I just have to finish "The Jungle Books" before I start the Tom Ripley stories.

Lunch update:

The oil at the post house cannot reach a high enough temperature to make the papas braves, so they had to bake them. Not quite the same, I imagine, but still pretty tasty, spice-wise.

Hmm... Did he try the shallow-fry route?  Or does the stove there not even get that hot?

OH!

My niece, Alyssa, loves her chicken and potatoes.  However, the first time I cooked dinned for her, she kept asking for "Papas Chicken".  What?  Did she want her "Papa's Chicken"?  Well, after calling her mother - who's from Puerto Rico - I found out she was asking for potatoes and chicken.  -Alas, preferably fried, but she likes mashed potatoes (just boiled and mashed, no salt, no butter, no cream/milk).

I just read the cast list for the upcoming tour of The Drowsy Chaperone and was very happy to see that my friend, Peter Riopelle, and his twin brother, Paul, will be playing the Gangsters!  Guess I'll have to find a time and and city where I can see them.  *And Peter and Paul's other brother - who is not a twin nor a triplet - is named Matthew.  I'm not sure if they have nine other brothers.  ;)

RE: SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE

I am so curious to see who america votes out tonight.

I know i want lauren gone (and fully expect it).

But i really have no idea who they will vote out for the guys. I'm not even sure who i would vote out. I know i want danny to stay (gosh i wish had danced with sabra). But i'm sort of guessing maybe pasha will go.
