I watched NBC's "The Biggest Loser" last night.

It was a quick two hours (premiere show) and has some interesting competitors.  There seem to be more "larger" individuals than in seasons past, although not "that much" larger.  Two of the guys topped 400 pounds in the initial weigh-in, but results after one week saw both drop below that.  Several women were at or over 300 pounds.

It should be an interesting season, especially since there will be THREE (count 'em THREE) teams.  The Red and Blue teams know nothing about the Black team (headed by original female trainer Jillian).  The Black team will join the other two in next week's show.  It should create quite a stir.

The Blue team won the weigh-in and the Red team had to evict someone.  They picked EXACTLY the right person to go.

Bless her heart, she was the heaviest female in the competition.  She lost 7 pounds, but should have lost more.  It was clear she was weighing her team down (so to speak) because she just wasn't likely to drop the weight she needed to in order to offset her starting weight's contributions to their overall body fat (which is how the winner each week is determined -- combined loss of weight converted to body fat percentage).  Add to that her attitude during the first week, including her overstated desire to quite and go home after the first workout, they were all tired of her ass.

Her team now has a chance to be more competitive, IMO.

I'm heading down now to read another chapter in THE DEATHLY HALLOWS and then watch something on TV.

I cleaned the den this mornig, so that is of no concern now.

Even the cars in Oz have speedos.

Speedo the ozzie cossie.

I believe the brand "Speedo" is now back in Australian ownership.

Our football players here often go swimming the day after their game.  Many of them wear speedos.

I apologise for posting the spider pic sans speedo! (just bad timing).

DR Matt will be in the Guiness Book of Records as the slowest reader of "Deathly Hallows".

"Mornig" - one of the characters in "Camelot" or was she an aunt of Potter?

That's all well and good in Australia.  But in the U.S., the bulk of men who wear Speedos should be wearing overhauls.

Back from rehearsal and a brief stop at the post office.  We did a complete run, which actually went surprisingly well.  I gave very specific notes today, and then we ran those scenes.  There's one scene in particular that was a problem in LA and has been a problem here.  It's very difficult to get the tone of it right for one character, and we really worked hard on it this afternoon and I think we finally made some good headway that will really help.  It's funny, Rob inverted a line of dialogue today, and for the first time it made sense to me, so I rewrote it and then just added one short line to the end of his little speech.  Actors, I do love them.

It does help watching a run-through when you've had a good night's sleep and are feeling much better.  I'm not tip-top but I'm MUCH better, thank goodness.  I think I'll lay off any more EmergenC for tonight (had a big cup this morning), and have some at rehearsal in the morning.  Tonight I'll take an Allevert and then Ny-Quil, just like last night, and hope I can get another good night's sleep.

Here, the guys who "could" pull off (no pun intended) wearing Speedos generally wouldn't be caught dead in what they call a "banana hammock."

Baggie oversized swimwear is what you see on the fittest/trimmest, including our football players.

You can never have enough men in speedos, I always say!

I'm still awaiting the spiders in speedos.  Of course, that will be the title of my autobiography: SPIDERS IN SPEEDOS.

Rockspiders in Speedos.

A possibility and a very creepy thought.

I find this sadly untrue.  Most men who wear Speedos should NOT wear anything revealing of anything.

It's only in movies, on TV and in ads that Speedo bodies are seen in Speedos....seldom in "real life."

Worst memory of our holiday in France a few years back - a bus load of American tourists - The middle aged men (OK my age) - ALL in those all too revealing bicycle shorts.  Not a bicycle in sight! Maybe the wives bought the clothes.

Were they at least wearing "fanny packs" over their crotches?

That's another U.S.-male-contrivance:  Fanny packs were designed to be worn "behind" you, but men began wearing them directly over their crotches.

I cannot tell you how silly I think that looks, but when the fanny pack actually covers up something NO ONE should ever have to SEE, it serves a fair purpose.

I woke up feeling very cruddy today but thought I'd tough it out and go to Sioux Falls to visit the client I need to see there.  I went to the office and here came Nadia...also sick and not looking well at all.   I made the executive decision that we would wait to go to Sioux Falls until Monday.

I came home to check on Callie who had been acting funny last night and this morning.   The poor thing was straining and strainging trying to poop...she was clearly in pain so I took her right to the vet.   Turns out her old problem is back. It looks like she's imacted again. Like she was 2 1/2 years ago.  So she's in the hospital so they can see if they can soften things up. Due to her malformed bone structure it took them 9 days in the hospital last time. I'm really hoping it isn't that bad now.  They were planning to sedate her and will call me later today. Poor thing.  We've done the meds twice a day every day for 2 1/2 years and it worked up until now. I'm really worried what we will have to do next.  She's only 5 years old.

Cilla, thank goodness you were sick.  Odd how that can work.  What is the medicine Callie takes?  BEST OF VIBES FOR SWEET CALLIE!

Agreed Ron.  Silly indeed.  I used to think Jodhpurs were the least attactive clothing item on anyone. Bicycle shorts are far worse.

I cannot quite figure out why, but we Americans teach boys not to show emotions, not to express affection openly and to be ashamed of their bodies.

Even in a culture that worships the body in magazines and gymnasiums, American men have a great bugaboo attitude toward wearing anything that accentuates their physiology.

Coupled with the overly trashy female fashion trends (does every young woman need to dress like a whore?), it seems very surreal to me.

Plus we get a plethora of buttcracks from men and women who wear clothes much too small for their generous frames, not to mention far too many "workout" garments of questionable stability (i.e. worn out, flimsy) being worn as everyday attire...street wear...and in some very sad cases, "office" attire.

And I just know "someone" doesn't want me to get started on "bicycle" shorts.

Lord have mercy.  First of all, what on earth do "John and Jane Doe" need with state-of-the-art racing togs when they go out biking on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon?

Go into a coffee shop and BE AMAZED at otherwise rational people prancing around in full bicycle racer drag...it's astonishing to me.  These items are pricey, yes, and so "courant"....but honestly!  Unless you're going to actually RACE on a bicycle, regular shorts and a t-shirt should do you more good...won't chafe the skin and will absorb moisture better and give you a better idea of how much sweating you've done.

Needless to say, I don't see anyone in bike shorts AND fanny packs.  And because of that, some of these guys totally need to consider athletic support.

Good Evening!

Greetings from Bryant Park!  :)

-It's a beautiful late summer/early fall evening here in NYC, and since I had a bit of time before tonight's show, I figured I might as well head over here until I have to head back to the theatre.

*And the 'wichcraft booth had Cinnamon Ice Cream tonight.  :)

Ron-LOL.  Those shorts are truly ugly.

Years ago we belonged to a nice gym/tennis club.  Most of the women wore those spandex workout clothes & I was always getting asked for proof I was a member, after all I only wore shorts & a t-shirt.  One day I tried on a couple of "work out" clothes.  They were horrible, I couldn't keep them on for more than a few seconds, just about the most uncomfortable thing I have ever worn & there was no way I would work out in them.
