I did get the DVD to show in color...however all TV stations look terrible and sort of fuzzy.

I went back down the the store but they were closing. However I happend to see the clerk who helped me and he told me I need to get an HD DRV box from Comcast. Is that correct? I am presuming that the one I have is not an HD DRV box. Besides I don't watch any HD channels...but I didn't know my regular channels like TCM and Game Show Network, etc, would end up looking like crap!

Grrrrrrrrrrr.....yes regular broadcast without an HD cable connection isn't great.

But it's a minor adjustment.....watch some DVD's until Comcast comes out.

DR MBarnum - give it time.
Remember, the lighting in the store was not the same as your lighting at home, to begin with.
Then there's that precious, time-consuming task of calibrating your set until everything is pitch perfect colorwise for YOU.
Add in viewing distance, darkness of room. . .etc, etc and so forth.
It's not an easy "plug and play" type of investment, but once the time is invested and all the boxes are in place, you're gonna cherish that baby!

Have you tried watching local channels off air?  If your TV has an HD tuner, you can get broadcast stations, I think.

But what do I know!

Don't give up....the hard part is over.  You have it in your house and it's hooked up.  Comcast will install everything for you when they come, like your HD box and your DVR.

Yeah, when I got my HDTV, I was still with standard cable. . .about a month later is when I upgraded my Comcast box; when I bought Mum her HDTV, I made sure that an HD-cable box was picked up and installed on the same day. (I don't know if it's an option where you are, DR MBarnum, but here Comcast let me pick up my box at their nearest office and install it myself - something I hadn't done the first time around).
I know that DR MattH will have a lot to say on this subject as well.

WHOA!

My guess is that, first, you should take a deep breath...

Then take another deep breath.  :)  Then...

I'm guessing that even though your new TV set is HD-compatible, there should be some way to hook a "regular TV" up to it.  Maybe you need to make a house/phone call to DR MattH.

But even the DVDs don't look very good. Everyone is sort of out of focus. I just popped in my dvd of HOUSE OF USHER...Vincent Price and Mark Damon don't look so hot anymore.

The store clerk mentioned getting an Upconvert DVD player and using and HD cable contraption. I just don''t want to spend even more money and still having a crappy picture.

I just don't understand all of this. Maybe I am just doing in wrong.

DR MBarnum - Is there a customer service number you could call?  Heck, you could probably discuss Bollywood movies with the person on the other end of the line.  ;D

Are you on cable, Mike?  Most cable carriers have a separate number for each of your regular channels in HD.  They are usually somewhere about the 100 numbers.  Have you looked for those?  Wait a few minutes, Matt should be back on HHW.

We're home!  Thanks for all the travel vibes, which worked quite well.  Our flight was almost an hour late leaving LGA, but only slightly late arriving in Cincinnati - do you think they built a potential delay into the schedule?  Our connection to Dayton was only slightly delayed because we were waiting for the crew to arrive.  We've been home about an hour.
