When we lived outside Detroit I was far more aware of Canadian politics than I am now.  At that time I became aware of signs around town stating “we don’t accept Canadian money”, yet we can go just about anywhere in Canada and use American money.  It makes me feel bad we aren’t more obliging, especially in border towns.

It went a bit too far when Old Navy in New York refused to accept my canadian penny!

I must say this has been a day of smashingly smashing posts.  Nice to be back in the swing of things, and have our usual warm and interesting posts back in full force.

Sure.  On a day I haven't posted too much, it's "my, my what a lovely bunch of posts."  On the days I'm feeling loquacious, post-wise, it's "Where in tarnation IS everybody."

It could give a guy a complex.

Don't get a complex.  Getting a complex is much too complex.  You are always one of our favorite posters - the trick is to be prolific EVERY day.

It does seem rather quiet tonight, DR Jay.  Maybe we are having a Wednesday slump?  All this time I thought Wednesday was Hump Day, when in reality, it is really Slump Day.

It hasn't been Hump Day for me in quite some time, Dear Reader TCB, though I appreciate the thought.

Danise, I use bookmarks and, what's more, I collect them too...I always pick them up from whatever bookstore I go into...I have them from all over the country and parts beyond.  I've got scads of paper ones, leather ones, metal ones, laminated ones, wooden ones...I never counted how many; some are years old...

Probably the oldest one is a Tarzan bookmark promoting the novels from the late twenties/early thirties...when Grosset & Dunlap reprint editions cost 75 cents.  Of interest to BK, I have one from Pickwick Book Shop when it was still called Pickwick and the phone number was HO 9-8191 and they also had a branch in Canoga Park as well as Hollywood.  I found both it and the Tarz one in old books I bought.

I figure with a bookmark I don't have to remember the page and it saves wear and tear on the book, since I don't have to go flipping pages to find my place...even if I have remembered the page number.  Not important to everyone, perhaps, but certainly to a book collector.

Well, despite the fact that I just got in from a blind date, it wasn't Hump Day for this poor soul, either. . .

They'd have to be some truly extraordinary cookies to be sufficient consolation for this slump, DR Jay. :)

You remind me of a story.  As much as I love Baskin Robbins ice cream I had to boycott the store near me in Michigan.  The owner wasn’t the nicest of people.  One day I asked to sample a new flavor and he refused explaining “it is just vanilla ice cream with….added”.  :o I walked out and never returned.  That killed me but I had to do it.  He eventually went out of business.
He doubly deserved to go out of business!  For one thing, I'm fairly sure that B-R policy is to give the free samples (on their little pink spoons) to anyone who asks.  For another, B-R has always prided itself on it's product development.  There's a whole lot more to their ice cream than just vanilla kicked up a notch.  (I used to know one of their flavor developers, who also did similar work for Yoplait and Haagen-Daas, and he'd be having fits if he were to hear your story!)

Hmm...a question...

Bruce (or anyone, I suppose!), if you were given 10 minutes on national television to say whatever you wanted, knowing it wasn't going to be cencored or showed with a bias, what would you say? A blow by blow isn't necessary, jusyt topics.

We had a "workshop" for Camelot today after school, where we ran over some of the songs and read some of the dialoue. They're working really hard to get people prepared this year, which is great! Auditions are next week, so on Tuesday, some vibeage would be appreciated!

I am super tired at the moment, and I'm actually going to go to sleep before 11 *shock gasps*!

Take it to a nice dinner place and let it down easy.

Danise I think your recipe idea is a good one.  I need a book mark since half the time I close the book while I’m falling asleep at night.  There is no way I would remember the page number.

Charles Pogue I would like to see your book mark collection.

SWW I assure you I have tasted ice cream all over this country, and never have I been refused a sample in any ice cream store.  He was so unpleasant he had trouble keeping employees.  I should have reported him to Baskin Robbins and they would have given me a coupon for a free ice cream.

Snickerdoodles (makes about three dozen)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

In a large bowl of electric mixer, blend 3/4 c sugar and 1 stick butter (softened) until creamy.  Add 1 egg and 1/2 t vanilla extract, beat until light and fluffy.

Sift together 1 1/3 c flour, 1 t baking powder, and 1/2 t salt, then add to sugar mixture at a low speed until a stiff dough forms.  Roll dough into 1-inch balls.  Tell TCB and der Brucer to keep their comments to themselves.

In a small bowl, blend 1 T sugar and 1 t cinnamon.  Roll balls in cinnamon sugar, place 2 inches apart on lightly greased baking sheets.  Bake cookies for 8 to 10 minutes, until flattened and firm in center.  Cool for two minutes on sheets, then cool completely on racks.
