For Ask BK Day: Since you are a big fan of LI'L ABNER, have you ever met Julie Newmar or Stella Stevens, did you ever meet Stubby Kaye and let them know your admiration for their work in this classic?

DR PANNI - did you know a Toronto actress named Jo Hutchings or a Canadian actor named Sid Brown or his son Tony Brown?  ???

BK asked:

What game am I?

Well, judging from the relatively non-artesian paths your reasoning tends to follow, I suspect "TWISTER".

Ask BK/DR day:

Are you or have you ever been a fan of the Italian Sword and Sandal genre of the 1960s. If so who are your favorite performers in that genre. Who made the best Hercules/Samson/Maciste/Goliath.

BK, I always thought you were a member of the WGA.   Don't you get residuals on your films?

Question:  Was the article in the Li'l Abner LIFE magazine you bought last week as interesting as the cover?

Who are the Scarlette version of the Jordanaires on Jason's medley on "Jeepers Creepers"?

AND have you or Guy Haines ever provided backup vocals (credited or undredited) on ANY CD (whether or not it was one of yours)?

To answer Jennifer's Prime Minister question, I called my cousin in Canada.

"How are things down there?" I queried, "And what's the name of your prime minister."

He told me he wouldn't tell me without a bribe.

So I asked how many francs this would require.

And he hung up on me.

Please forgive me for forgetting to post the Christopher Meloni picture of the week. It hit me in the middle of the night that I hadn't done it. Unfortunately, I'm not at the scanner (upstairs) at the moment, but I will have it scanned in for those who want a look-see later.

Hint: it's a pic from his hit series OZ on HBO. I hope it will be worth the wait.

Funny, I just ran across a cover story from one of those New York City small publications, where Meloni face graces the cover.  Must scan and downsize.  Remind me later.

Dear Reader Jane:  IT'S TODAY ! ! ! (hint:  she's 13)

I think that it is positively healthy to think of Christopher Meloni in the middle of the night.   ;)

Kerry: Yes, Guy has sung backup, but I'll be darned if I can remember on what albums - he did provide one line on the Merrily We Roll Along album - I think it's in That Frank.

Jason's backup voices on Jeepers Creepers are all Grant Geissman - he's also Guy's backup voices on the two Kritzer CDs.

Pogue: I have never joined, even though I've had the opportunity.  I do get the green envelopes on The Faculty because David is a member and because it was a WGA pic.  Haven't had time to open the Life Magazine yet.

Best celeb autobio and bio: I tend to forget these as soon as I've read them, but I did enjoy Charlton Heston's first book, and I liked David Niven and Dirk Bogarde's books.  I enjoyed the Veronica Lake book and the Francis Farmer book, too.

Liz and Alex Rybeck wrote the additional stuff on Wash That Man.

Sword and sandal: I am a fan - I find them lots of fun and very strange.  My favorites when I was a kid (as written about in Kritzerland) were Hercules and Hercules Unchained, starring Mr. Steve Reeves.

Li'l Abner: The only two people I've met from the cast are Stella Stevens (I gave her a copy of Kritzerland and told her she was in it), and Billie Hayes, who played Mammy Yokum - and yes, I told her all about my love of her and the film.

Will There Really Be A Morning? by Frances Farmer.  Glad you liked it!

In reality written by Jean Ratcliffe from material first organized by Lois Kibbee, and edited by John Dodds, husband of Vivian Vance!  ;D

For those DRs who might want to hurl invective, but would appreciate some else taking the blame, I have one word of advice: PARROT

"F*** THE NAZIS, SAYS CHURCHILL'S PARROT"

(Extracts from The Mirror)

SHE WAS at Winston Churchill's side during Britain's darkest hour. And now Charlie the parrot is 104 years old...and still cursing the Nazis.

Her favourite sayings were "F*** Hitler" and "F*** the Nazis". And even today, 39 years after the great man's death, she can still be coaxed into repeating them with that unmistakable Churchillian inflection.

Many an admiral or peer of the realm was shocked by the tirade from the bird's cage during crisis meetings with the PM.But it always brought a smile to the war leader's face.

Book comments today---
If you read the Joan McCracken book (and I urge you to do so) do not skip the beginning of the Acknowledgements which come at the end of the book.  The first two are among the most bizzare I have ever read.

I just started reading THE GOLDEN GIRLS OF MGM.  The first chapter was on Jeannette MacDonald and it goes against everything I have ever read about her.  According to this book she and Nelson Eddy were maddly in love with each other but did not get married because Nelson demanded that Jeannette give up her career and let him be the star in the family.  She refused to have sex with Nelson until he raped her which she then said was what she was waiting for.  It also claims that she became L B Mayer's mistress in order to get a contract with MGM.  Have any of you DRs heard this before?

I just started the 2nd chapter... Norma Shearer.  The book claims that she used to turn tricks for a living before she became a movie star.

I can't wait for the chapters on Judy, Lana and all the others.  Even though I don't believe 90% of it, it's still a great read.  I wonder if there were any lawsuits when the book was first released in hardcover last year.

DERBRUCER,  Thanks for the entertaining article about  Churchill's parrot and the Mirror link.   One of the most interesting places I've ever visited in London were Churchill's underground War Rooms right off St. James' Park, where he lived and worked most of the time during the WWII.  Fascinating stuff.

Ok, I will post!

And here is another BK question (I am full of questions today, I am afraid).

If you went grocery shopping this afternoon and you ran into Ms. Leslie Parrish in the produce aisle what would you say to her?

Sarah, it's capital. The Capitol is a building. Oh, and yes, I know "Fifty Nifty United States." We sang it in...fifth grade, I think.

Yes, Laura II, I remember singing that song even back when I was in school.  However, back then I believe the title was "Twenty's Plenty United States".  It didn't have very many verses.

Charles, I have heard that the War Rooms are a must see. We will get to them on our next trip. We had so many things to do and only 15 days so we let that one slide off the list. A friend of mine said it was one of the most fascinating places he saw in all of London. I will put it at the top of the list for the next visit.

I plan to do anything but watch football on Superbowl Sunday.  Perhaps I'll have a Superbowl of Pasta.

I did not play "Larry" on Three's Company.  I did audition for Three's Company quite often, just never got one.  Tell your boss to think "Partridge Family".

Oh!  So you played "Larry" on "Partridge Family"?  I don't remember Larry.

Perhaps, BK, you should rent out a bowling alley for a party on Sunday, February 1.

For food, you could have Clam Chowder, Minnestrone, and Borscht.  On the front of the invitations you could put ...........

(get ready for this one)

SOUP?

OR

BOWL?
