As you can see, the new countertops got put in place, adjusted, and then re-adjusted.  I think they are going to look fabulous when it it all finished.

Tonight it's SURVIVOR for me.  And then maybe i'll watch UGLY BETTY.  I find i watch very few shows "live" these days.  I'd rather just wait till the show is half over to start!

I have programmed VIVA LAUGHLIN (is that the correct spelling?).  I don't expect to like it. but i'm also curious.

And then here is what day 3, Wednesday, looked like.  The counters got all covered up again, some of the plumbing and faucets were reconnected, and more work progressed on the cabinets.  Mostly prep work on the cabinets, so they can be re-faced.

Much of the charm, for me, of singers from the 1920s and, especially, the 1930s is the "dated" style. Some of my favorites are:

Gertrude Niesen
Dick Foran (aka Nick Foran)
Felix Knight
John Boles (as mentioned by MattH, and who does a swell number in the movie STAND UP AND CHEER...although he is probably much better known for his role as Dr. Frankenstein in the 1931 horror classic)
Al Bowlly (his rendition of CLOSE YOUR EYES just sweeps me off of my feet...just a beautiful song..and you can listen to it here --> http://www.amazon.com/Very-Thought-You-Noble-Orchestra/dp/B000001HHF/ref=pd_bxgy_m_text_b/104-9043727-9363125 )

RE PRIVATE PRACTICE.

I kept thinking about myself. When my partner of 8 years left me for another man, I dove into community theater big time. If I didn't get a role in a show, I ushered, sold concessions, worked on the crew, and it was there that I met every single close friend that I have in my life right now.

These doctors wouldn't feel so lonely and so emprty if they would DO something with their lives rather than sit around and mope about their situations.

I haven't seen the show. I just know that we all experience set-backs and disappointments in life and believe that it's how we deal with them that makes us who we are.

I couldn't agree with you more, Matt.

This gives me an idea for a couple of one-act plays.

The first will be entitled "Godot Gets A Job"

The second will be entitled "Waiting For FedEx".

BBL (big belly laugh in Internet lingo).

GODOT GETS A JOB is priceless, Ron.

Must add Paul Robeson to my 1930s singer list. I almost forgot him...well, actually I did forget him.

MusicGuy, I don't remember the space, shutters & small counter between the kitchen & what I'm guessing is the dining room.  Was it always there?

When we remodeled our kitchen the counter tops were just about the last thing to be done.

My mother's favorite.  I wish I had the record she smuggled into the country.

Cilla, I think Ron gave you some good advise about using an assistant the way one should be used.

I understand how you feel as Keith always had problems delegating, and his assistants used to complain about the fact.  If you have a really good one you might find you will use her skills more and more, freeing you up to take on more and more clients.

When our kitchen was redecorated, we ran out of money before replacing the counter tops.  That's why there are harvest gold counters in an otherwise cool blue, white, and brushed chrome kitchen.

Interesting Ginny.  Did you make the decision to leave the counter tops before redecorating the kitchen?  Otherwise I think the counter tops would have been removed before you ran out of money & you would be completely without them.

And in the "who-gives-a-crap" category, I shall continue to share some of the work-in-progress pictures of the typhoon going on in my kitchen.

Here are 2 pictures from day 2, which was Tuesday.

Interesting...and is that economy-sized container of petroleum jelly part of the workman's gear...or...?

LOL, Jane!  Our approach to home improvement projects is more "make it up as we go along."  The kitchen project was just cosmetic - removal of ugly wallpaper and flooring and new paint and vinyl flooring.

Actually, it turned out that I was glad the harvest gold counters were still there.  Not long ago, the man who build our house for his family to live in 50+ years ago was in town visiting his daughter (our age) and they came to tour her childhood home.  The wife/mother had died not long before, and Chris (the daughter) ran her hands along the countertops and said, "It's still Mom's kitchen."   :'(

I've recommended it many times, but if you've never seen Black Narcissus, it contains one of Miss Kerr's greatest performances.

The sun just came out here, won't last though.  I think we are beginning to have some of those winds heading towards TCB.

I need to get a few things done around here & take Sherlock for a hike before we give him a shower.

The winds are certainly here in Salem, Oregon, USA! It is getting to be sort of stormy outside.
