FOR YOUR THIGHS ONLY - wasn't that a porn film from the early 1980's?

I think it played on a double bill with Hannah Does Her Sisters.

At least you're typing, Jane.  It gives me a smile to see the economizing on the luxuries of capital letters!  :)

Good day, everyone.

We had a bit of rain here, but not nearly enough. We are near drought conditions.

DR MBarnum:

Did you buy THE BEULAH SHOW on DVD when it was released a couple of months ago? How is the quality. I know they're from the early days of TV, but I was curious about how they might look. And how many episodes did they include in the release?

Thanks.

I have those episodes from an earlier release...I imagine they are from the same source. I don't recall them being terrible quality, but I am certain that they are not restored. This much I can say, I enjoyed the TV show very much. The comedy held up pretty well and made me realize that HAZEL was THE BEULAH SHOW with a different cast.

One of the oft-overlooked aspects of renovation is the amount of cleaning needed afterwards. Marvelous Matt cleans up after himself, but having contractors in means more dirt, plus there's all the dust the renovation generates. I spent this morning doing some THOROUGH cleaning. I'll be doing the same in other parts of the house for a while, I suspect.

I have only "Smallville" and "Supernatural" in my DVR cache from last night.

SPOILER

"Ugly Betty" -- I didn't much appreciate the writers having Betty take credit for someone else's story in her writing class.  Her character has been established quite well up until now, and that was totally out of character.

Thus far, this season, Henry has been a blank.  It's disappointing.

Mark and Amanda are totally coming into their own, though.  Mark is stealing ALL of his scenes.

Justin's sexual "bent", as it were, is not something that is exclusively one way or another at this point.  I've known a few "big ole sissies" who are happily heterosexual.   As for his age (re: BK's looking for a 12-year-old), I'm thinking he's about 14.

I'm totally loving the arc with Daniel's sister(/brother) having amnesia and recalling things pre-operation when She was a He!  She's doing a terrific job in the role, too.

"Gray's Anatomy" -- I thought the whole show was terrific last night.  Light, but substantial.  I loved that Christina got a comeuppance and learned a lesson from it re: instructing.  I loved that Derek (Derrick?) drew Lexi (Lexy?) out.  I'm still not enjoying Meredith at all.

Adele put too much pressure on her husband to "make" her niece do something she doesn't want to do.  It's selfish.  It's also very much in character for her, from all I've seen of her.

I hope that the Callie-Izzy showdown finally, and forever, put an end to the totally ill-advised George-Izzy debacle.  I'm with Alex in my disgust, but not for the same reason (obviously).

"C.S.I." -- caught parts of it.  Looked to be a good episode.  I was delighted to read, earlier in the week, that Jorja Fox will be leaving the show.  Her character has been my least favorite for a few years, and the "romance" with Gil has been one of the least convincing, most poorly written "contrivances" I've seen in any show.  That he "proposed marriage" to her last night was ludicrous.

DR Edisaurus, I very much enjoyed hearing about your dinner last night with James Ivory...and I am envious. You know, don't you, that he directed a few Bollywood movies back in the 1960s..I think all of them starred Shashi Kapoor...and I would LOVE to know what he thought of working with Helen in BOMBAY TALKIE (which is coming up soon on my Netflix queue).

TOD:

CD (actually tape): in the shameless self-absorption department, a meditation tape I recorded several years ago that I will be selling at a concert I'm giving tonight.  I hadn't listened to it in years and I must say it's quite nice for that sort of thing.  It was made at the dawn of the sequencing software age and I went a bit nuts programming Terry Riley-esque figures that no sane person could ever play live.  :)

DVD:  I have my next batch of screeners queued up and ready to go--they're all comedy this time, which I'm desperately in need of, including an interesting set of Robert Wuhl (Arli$$) doing some routine on American history which is supposed to be hilarious.

I think it played on a double bill with Hannah Does Her Sisters.

Of course, this was the inspiration for the later Stanley Zubrick-directed "THIGHS WIDE OPEN."

Speaking of HD, I just discovered quite by accident two nights ago that DirecTV had finally (months after they announced the supposed launch) added all the extra HD channels they had been promising for so long.  So we now have a ton of really nice HD programming which I've been enjoying immensely for the approximately 30 seconds I watch each evening before falling into a coma.

Ah...well then....I was shocked, I tell you, shocked when I saw that MBarnum actually knew who James Ivory is.  I then heaved a sigh of relief when I realized it wasn't because he'd ever seen "Howard's End" or "A Room With A View" but because Ivory had done some Bollywood films.

Oh, I certainly do...loved those movies when I was a kid...although they really were just a European ripoff of the beloved LOVE BUG, you know.

Ebay excuses department:  does anyone else have wonderful stories of sellers and buyers with great excuses for non-shipment/non-payment.  I was telling Betsy the other day there is evidently a pandemic of eBay users suffering miscarriages--on both the selling and buying sides.  It's amazing how many people have miscarriages which prevent them from shipping and/or paying.  I find it especially amazing when their registered names are things like Harold and Monty.   :)  Today I had a great one--a woman who is both pregnant and suffering from recent foot surgery.  This 3 weeks after she failed to pay, 2 weeks after I filed a non-paying dispute and a week after it closed.  But of course while she was away conceiving and having bunyons removed some evil person "broke into" her eBay and PayPal accounts and bid on my auction of the Borat DVD.  Lordy, lordy.
