And now, dear friends, I must return to work. I have unopened e-mails which need to be opened. I have The Ford Foundation and The Charles Stewart Mott Foundation to deal with and I must deal with my own end of year annual project.

Later, Gaters!

Good morning, all! The hell continues, and I have to make a decision about an email I received first thing this morning.

I've got a lot of writing to do, so I'll most likely be here most of the day.

Monday morning greetings!  My 2 major tasks here at work today are preparing for a Tuesday meeting at which I'm the guest speaker and a Wednesday meeting at which I'll be called upon for a treasurer's report.  Also, a little rearranging of my workspace, if I can snag some help from the custodial staff.

Fundraiser vibes and xylophones to BK and company!

Coping vibes and hugs to DR Elmore!

TOD - Back when DR Elmore was still an Ohio resident, our community theatre company used to go to a local place called Duff's for post-rehearsal refreshments.  They had the best homemade vegetable soup, which I've tried to duplicate at home - to no avail.  Duff's is long gone and the community theatre company is a shadow of its former self.

I'm also a fan of tomato bisque, especially with Pepperidge Farm goldfish floating in it.

Not too fond of cold soups of any kind.

TOD:  there was a great onion soup at a restaurant at the Riviera Hotel in Vegas, which I had several times during my Vegas trip in 1989.  When I went back to Vegas during the past few years and explored the Riviera, the restaurant was long gone.

Sign of the season:  As DH Richard and I were leaving Kenwood Towne Centre yesterday, we eavesdropped a bit on a training session for the staff of the See's Candies kiosk that will appear, like Brigadoon, in the mall for the holiday season.  The trainer was waxing eloquent about the peanut brittle.

Good Morning!

I'm up, I'm up... And just as I was about to head out to the gym, the handyman came by and told me that my window needs to be repaired.  Today.  Now.  -Apparently, the building inspector is coming tomorrow, so...

In any case, the handyman has been trying to figure out how to take the window out of it's casing for the past half hour of so.  And, yes, there's been lots of cursing, and some mention of a rusty screw breaking.  I guess I could still go to the gym right now, but something tells me I should stick around.  :-\

Of course, I did try to tell him that I had actually taken out the interior sash(?) once already for cleaning - it has to be in the "top" of the window frame in order to be tilted out properly.  But he insisted on cursing and looking at it puzzlingly for while.  As of now, he's removed the interior pane, and now he's trying to figure out how to get the exterior pane - the one with the broken glass - out of the casing.   -"Sash", "Casing", "Pane"... Yes, I know I'm probably using those terms interchangeably right now, but, frankly, I don't care.

And the kicker to this whole situation is that he has take the window up to the Bronx to get it fixed.  And, then, hopefully, he'll have time to bring it back later this afternoon - or tonight(?!?!?!?) - to put it back in.  :-\

DR JoseSPiano -

You do seem to have a thing for fellows named "Steve"!

Thanks for the photos - and nice haircut, by the way.

Congratulations to DB Jay.

And thanks very much for sharing Walsh's "commandments."

You're welcome, DR singdaw.

And what's that quote from "Steel Magnolias":

Good morning!

Very cold this morning (near freezing) and will be warming up to 70 by afternoon. It's a wonder I haven't come down with something since my body usually has trouble adjusting to these types of temperature extremes. I guess staying inside so much is what saves me.

And now some of the passers-by are having a chat with the handyman while he's "fixing" the window...

-And I'm really not looking forward to not being here this afternoon while the window is taped up with cardboard and plastic bags.

Favorite soup:

French Onion.

My former partner used to make a simply delicious potato soup which I simply adored. I miss him and I miss that soup often.

I am looking forward to finishing up BERLIN ALEXANDERPLATZ today. It's a mammoth set and getting all of it watched and "digested" has been a major time commitment, more so than a typical TV-season box set. This being in German and with lots of symbolic touches that require constant attention, not to mention trying to get the "feel" of Germany in pre-Nazi takeover period has required other research and interpretation.
