Liguid Stockings??? I don't even know what liquid stockings are. Maybe I need to watch more TV commercials??

Liguid (sic) stockings were all the rage during the war (THE WAR) when the GI's were using nylon for parachutes and silk to seduce European "ladies":

Smithsonian
Quote
While leg makeup has been commercially available since the 1920s, it wasn't until rationing was introduced during the World War II that the product became an essential commodity for many American women. Unable to procure silk or nylon hose, many women resorted to painting their legs with products such as Leg Silque Liquid Stockings, made in Boston, Mass., by the Langlors Company. Some industrious users even drew black lines down the backs of their legs to simulate the seams.

This was the same time when I had to raid my Mother's dressing table drawers for elastic garters to hold up my high socks because the lousy war-time elastic in my knickers wore out too fast.

I've got some writing to attend to, and then I'll head down to check the mail and start on lunch preparation.

Wednesday morning greetings!  My day started with a meeting at Panera near the University of Dayton.  When I arrived at my desk there was a voicemail from DH Richard, telling me that he's in the building working on his school work.  He's going to a shape note singing gathering in suburban Dayton this evening and came here to do what he'd be doing at home and to take me out to lunch  :D

It's very nice to see a distinguished scholar working with his MacBook amid all the bottom-feeders.

RE: last night's DANCING WITH THE STARS

ELIMINATION SHOW

SPOILERS

*

DR Cillaliz I was going to post this last night. But i am also pretty sure that Marie Osmond must have been in the B2.  And i think it was very classy that they did the show the way they did (saying she was safe in the intro and not having a bottom 2).

Although that said, they have done the elimination this way towards the end. Because they don't always want the fans to know who was in the bottom.

I was also very sad to hear about marie's father. I didn't even realize he was still alive.  But how touching that he got to see her tribute to him (and that wonderful first dance she did). That made me teary.

I am not surprised with who left (jane). And while i think she is lovely and i loved watching her on the show. I think she was the right choice. Many of the others are too strong.

DR MattH, I have not purchased ROUTE 66 as yet, and hadn't read any of the reviews. I do have it on my Netflix queue and will report my findings when it arrives.

I was looking through an old Playbill (October 1976)

Three shows that were troading the boards are on Broadway today!!

A Chorus Line
Chicago
Grease

and two more that are also headed back
Godspell
My Fair Lady

It is also sad to see that several theaters are no longer around
The Edison

The next three were torn down to build a hotel.
The Helen hayes (original)
The Bijou
The Morosco (Dark)

The Mark Hellinger (It was dark at that time and it hadn't become a church yet)

And others who have hand name changes
ANTA (August Wilson I think)
46th Street (Richard Rodgers)
Plymouth
Royale

The Edison is around, it is just never used as a Broadway theatre anymore. It's been used for revues and cabaret-type shows but I don't know if any kind of Broadway show has been in there since Those Were The Days in 1990.

Yes, the ANTA is now the August Wilson. Before that name came about it was the Virginia, and then the ANTA and when it was first built it was the Guild Theatre because the Theatre Guild built and operated the facility

And good morning, all!

I had an offer to do Jewish Thighs again, at that same little theater... and another offer to run a capital campaign to build a theater on land which has already been earmarked and donated... and I'm still waiting to hear something from Seattle. I expect I'll get something, once the committee has had time to process their impressions of the four candidates. I'm fine, either way. Now that I'm rested, I think the Job and I could be a good match.

I have a meeting today with one of my coaching clients - a young singer... she's DEAF. No, not 'tone-deaf,' I'm talking actually frigging DEAF!! a remarkable young lady. She plays the piano, reads music, and loves every minute of the sensation of the music in her body. I am so looking forward to our session. The kid inspires me so much!

Question For BK

Have you thought about submitting Murder At Hollywood High for the 2008 Edgar Allan Poe Awards? Dedline is November 30th. There is no cost to enter I believe, just a copy of the book (hardcover)

http://www.mysterywriters.org/index.htm

Their rules are a little - odd.

DR MATTH - I was ready to order the ROUTE 66 first volume until I read the reviews, too.

Some people seem to think that these are the "edited" episodes and made some good comparisons to tapes they made when Nick at Night showed the FULL episodes many years ago.

They also seem to be from rougher elements than the TV presentations.  Too bad.....  I am anxious to hear DR MBARNUM's report after his NetFlix viewing.
