This past weekend, I was rearranging some of the CDs I'd been "reorganizing" into storage cases and lit on "Barbara Cook at the Met"...a CD I bought when it was released but had not listened to.

I was keen to hear Josh Groban's "Not While I'm Around."  Upon hearing it, I wanted to love it more than any version I'd heard.  And yet...I could not.  Groban is another singer who -- for whatever reason -- has certain power notes that he loves to push at the expense of nuance, in particular, and the song, as a whole.  He hit several of those notes and proudly amplified them to allow me to hear all the timbre and power of the notes...totally disengaging me from one of Sondheim's loveliest melodies.

Sigh.

Wonderful compilation of articles and recipes for Thanksgiving from The New York Times  HERE.

Thanks for the link!  Lower down on that page, there's a link to an article, So Who Needs a Bird? Vegetarian Entrees for the Feast.  My sister and niece are vegetarians, so I wanted to see if it's something that I could print out for them and I found that there's a link for a recipe:  Spinach and Brussels Sprouts Pie With Hazelbut Pastry Crust...HazelBUT??

Well, I'm here at the library, but can't do much toward setting up the room for tonight's program because there's a big strategic planning session going on until 4pm.  Soon, I'll go out for lunch/dinner and to pick up the refreshments and hope that the strategists are out of the room by the time I get back.

On the "exciting job" spectrum, DR Jose and I are at opposite ends.

Anyway, DR Jose, I wish you all the best in your spur-of-the-moment opportunity with Disney - sing a chorus of "It's a Small World" for me, OK?

[move=left,scroll,6,transparent,100%]HAPPY BIRTHDAY HHW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!![/move]

When I met Bruce Kimmel at LACC he told me two things - to hear all his albums and see his cabaret - both of which I ended up doing ( and lots more) :P
I then sent him an invitation to see a show I was working on at Hollywood High School ( our choir teacher spoke very highly of Bruce when I asked ). After seeing the show, he gave me a scribble of paper with the words haineshisway.com on it, and said to look at the review he would write, and become a member and post up a storm.

I have learned a lot reading the musings and advice of the Dear Readers on this site, and it has been lovely meeting those of you I have.

[quote author=elmore3003 link=board=4;threadid=1567;start=msg392313#msg392313  I am a bit melancholy iver the fact that, while my brother may calm down, Lady M has no intentions of ending the war.  Jo and Randy are celebrating Thanksgiving on sunday for me and all my nephews, niece, spouses and children are coming.  Jo invited Lady M last week, and she declined.  Randy invited M, who didn't know about it! Last night, after the meeting, Randy and Jo reminded them, and Lady M's response was "no way in hell."  I guess it's the curse of being a selfish, evil, narcissistic, conniving piece of Cheap Christmas Trash.

ALL of your nephews and nieces-WONDERFUL!  It just shows how much the rest of the family loves you.  I'm glad lady M won't be there to ruin the fun.  If only M would go without her.

After the trip to NY when we didn't meet and should have.  I almost suggested to Larry we all do something together.  Shortly after you began posting & I regretted my silence.

Yes, DR Jane, I often think of that missed opportunity, too.  I remember DR Elmore saying something about "juggling 2 women" that week - think how much easier we could have made his life!

It's amazing how a bit of last-minute packing for a trip can result in a somewhat clean and orderly room.  ;)

Just taking a breather.  I set aside the clothes I wanted to bring with me.  Then after looking at the pile of clothes, I put some clothes back in the dresser or the closet.  -Heck, I'm only going away for five days and fours nights.  Thankfully, since I'll be in warmer climes, most of my apparel will consist of shorts and t-shirts.  I do have to bring one dress jacket for the "formal" night/meal on the cruise, but since I only have one of those, well... ;)

OK - Breather over.  Time to fit everything into the suitcase.  And I have a feeling I will be doing a bit more pruning and purging as I go along.

Bruce, the fact you have never missed a day of notes amazes me.

I enjoyed your lovely, personal tribute to Ira Levin.

Good news vibes!

Well, I'm just about ready to head to the airport - and I think I may go ahead and splurge on a taxi/car service, just because.  ;)

In any case...

BK - I hope you do receive the good news you are expecting today.  And if not today, may it come tomorrow.  :)

Otherwise, until I'm down in Orlando in a few hours - and I'll be staying "on campus" too!...

Science teacher to blonde:  If you are in a vacuum and someone calls your name, can you hear it?

Blonde to science teacher: (after a long pause)  Is the vacuum on or off?

"A perfectly sensible answer!" says this blonde.

:D  We did wear the poor guy out, and me with my need to walk everywhere.  That was the first time I met DR elmore in person & I will admit I selfishly wanted time alone with him, and I figured you would feel the same as you were such long time friends.

It was great meeting you the following year, and our coinciding trips gathered so many other DR's to NY. :)
