Last night, we attended a 100th anniversary gala benefit for
The MacDowell Colony at
The Roseland Ballroom. The MacDowell Colony is a supportive residential retreat in New Hampshire for artists from all mediums. Famous "Fellows" have included Thornton Wilder, Leonard Bernstein, and Aaron Copland.
It was quite an evening! I'd never been inside the ballroom, which is very interesting. The food was lovely and the cater-waiters even lovelier. Some of the honorary co-chairs included Jane Alexander, Kevin Kline, Barbara Cook, Blythe Danner, and Sherie Rene Scott.
The program included actress Rachel Weisz reading from
The Lovely Bones, Toni Morrison introducing a segment from an opera libretto she authored, Elaine Stritch reading a monologue by Spalding Gray, etc., etc.
It was all in all quite an exciting evening, but got to bed way too late for a school night!
