SHAV AND A HAIRCUT

Well, you've read the notes, the notes were bilious, like shav, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently eating some borscht to keep in the spirit of Christmas.

I don't know when I've had the last post of the day followed by the first non-BK post of the day.

Possibly never, that's likely when.

Still, it's good it happened once.

ASK BK

I know that you own  prints of several movies and I was looking through ebay and was surprised to see 1473 items listed. One that caught my eye was a print of South Pacific

The seller is claming the following: Extremely Rare Full 171 Minute Version in Stunning Fuji Color
This is the roadshow length.

Wouldn't it be unlikely that a 16mm print of the roadshow version would have been struck especially when the film was trimmed during the roadshow engagement. I always believed that 16mm prints shortly after the film left the theaters.

Also was there FUJI stock back then?

I am sure that if this print is as good as he claims couldn't they have used this to restore the film for the DVD release? It doesn't look like he is one of those collectors that has the last remaining print of a movie that he keeps to himself.

What are your thoughts?

Good morning, all! One band part to write this morning, and I'm finished with the Men's Chorus holiday concert.  Back to Ashley Brown's scores tomorrow.  I have a couple of hours at Toyland this morning, and I will hopefully have some time for my laundry this afternoon before the rehearsal, which begins at 6:30, Riverside Church.

DR Michael Shayne, since I saw the original Broadway cast of SWEENEY TODD six times, I can verify that the performance, with intermission, ran generally 2:50; the one exception was the final performance (Sunday matinee) of Lansbury and Cariou, which ran about 3:10 because of the crazy fans, the constant applause and tossed floral tributes.  The curtain calls went on forever.

t's my understanding that the film's shutdown when Depp left the set to be with his hospitalized daughter is the reason for the omission of the ghosts and the Ballad.

DR Jose, this is Kim's second marriage, and I believe it's happening on Jan 2.  Her husband is an American psychiarist with a practice in London; they've been dating for a while now.  I haven't seen Kim since 2002 so this is a fairly new turn of events for me in the past five years. She did write me at one point that she was dating him, but iI couldn't say how long ago it was.

BK, I am on the biggest Arthur Fiedler kick at the moment. What a wonderful conductor.  Some of the Pops things were puff and fluff but it's always played with grace, panache, style and real elegance. When it comes to the light classics, Fiedler leaves many of our contemporaries who work but lack style, panache, elegance, and grace in the dust.

I've got to finalize my shopping lists in the next two days because next week I have several packages to post.  Since the Macbeths are now off the shopping list for good, I seem to have a shorter list this year. I'm still thinking about sending Lady M a good book on painless methods of suicide, so if any DR knows of one, please send me the amazon.com URL.

If the haircut is one of those done by plopping a bowl on the haircuttee's head and cutting off anything that comes down below the rim of the bowl, then I certainly hope the shav was washed out first.  Otherwise the haircuttee will be sorrel.

Remember, no groaning.   ;D

DR Cillaliz - congratulations on your new board post.

DR JoseSPiano - thanks once again for the concert report.  I love Les Noces, and went though an obsessive phase a few years ago when I purchased and listened to just about every available recording.

Does anyone here know the story behind the orchestrations used for the "Rufus does Judy" incarnations?  Did the original charts survive?  Did they have to be reconstructed?  Can that be done simply by ear, if one is talented enough?

The liner notes say: Orchestra Adaptations: Jon Charles & Christopher Jahnke.

I just realized something - when a play is referred to as being Shavian, that must mean it was written while the playwright was still a bit green.  I always thought it referred to a particular author.

DR td - perhaps a new, matching avatar is in order?  With hat!

Some men can carry off the wearing of hats, and some can't.  I don't think I look good in hats.

Yes, it can indeed be done.  All you need is a good ear.  It's never 100% accurate, depending on how and when the source was recorded, but it can be done faithfully.

Time to get going.  It was freezing last night, but still no snow.  That may happen today, however.

Our store's florist, Gina, puts together wonderful collections of flowers for all sorts of occasions.  I'll have to ask her if she ever does any Hanukka arrangements.

 ;D

(My co-workers are going to suffer this kind of thing all day.)
