I feel a sudden urge to sing the kind of ditty that invokes the Spring
So, control your desire to curse while I crucify the verse
This verse I've started seems to me the "Tin Pan-tithesis" of melody
So to spare you all the pain, I'll skip the darn thing and sing the refrain

The night is young, the skies are clear
And if you want to go walkin', dear
It's delightful, it's delicious, it's de-lovely

I understand the reason why
You're sentimental, 'cause so am I
It's delightful, it's delicious, it's de-lovely

I'm finished with this particular musical number.  I've left the main part of the tune, which is the bulk of the song, but rewrote the music for the opening verse, and the bridges.  I also cleaned up the lyrics - not being a pro, his scan is invariably off or mis-accented and I can't abide that.  So, I end up basically keeping his first verse where he figured the scan out, and the rewriting all the others where he's not consistent - I keep the ideas as much as possible, but completely rewrite the lyric so it makes sense and matches the other verses.

I am madly attempting to chart Barry Manilow's "Daybreak" from a YouTube clip for the Pops.  Oy.  Did he write it?

I think it's in one of my old Barry Manilow piano books...

BK, I've always wondered about things like this:

I'm finished with this particular musical number.  I've left the main part of the tune, which is the bulk of the song, but rewrote the music for the opening verse, and the bridges.  I also cleaned up the lyrics - not being a pro, his scan is invariably off or mis-accented and I can't abide that.  So, I end up basically keeping his first verse where he figured the scan out, and the rewriting all the others where he's not consistent - I keep the ideas as much as possible, but completely rewrite the lyric so it makes sense and matches the other verses.

BK, when you do things like this (however often you've done this), what kind of credit do/could you get?  Meaning, are you just billed as the arranger or do you get co-writing credit, such as "written by Joe Schmo and BK" or "additional music and lyrics by BK"?  How much would you have to rewrite to get co-writer credit or additional music/lyrics credit...and what about financial compensation?  You don't have to be specific, but is there a percentage that you would get with one kind of credit versus another?

Just curious.

Another question for BK:

I'd be happy to be a guest programmer, and I'd be a lot more interesting than most of the ones I've seen, most especially the excruciating Charles Grodin.

If you were able to do this...what movies do you think you would choose?  Any of yours?

DR Ginny, Jeanne and JRand, etc... - I thought it only snowed in New York City?
...

No, it snowed about 4" here in SW Ohio, right at morning rush hour.  Remember earlier I said my 40-minute commute took an hour and a quarter?  Well, Richard and I were talking about it over dinner and I recomputed that it took an hour and three quarters!

Coming home was much better, but I'm afraid all that's melted will refreeze overnight.

DR GINNY thanks for the Jason Report and the Photographic evidence.

DR RLP - I think that the weekend that Miss Karyn Kupcinet was killed was the weekend that PSYCHO was to have its network television debut....and it was postponed.....

The Wikipedia entry certainly has some interesting details.   As for Mr Holliman....well "then-girlfriend" certainly puts her in the past.

Thanks for the Blue Moon comments.  She is loving the bit of snow we have, so when we get more, I will add some photographs to the collection.

Interesting William Wellman documentary on TCM....repeated later this evening.  Originally on PBS in the '70's, and probably on a DVD or two.

The author has offered me credit from day one - now more than ever.  I just have to decide if I want an actual credit (which would certainly be Additional Music and Lyrics by, along with Creative Consultant), or if I'd just take a royalty and be silent.  It depends, I suppose, on how I like the final product.

If they wanted one of mine, it certainly would be Nudie, which hasn't been on cable for ages.  Additionally, I might show Woman In The Window, North By Northwest or Rear Window, Once Upon A Time In The West or America (depending on my mood when they asked), The White Sheik, The Court Jester - how many do they need?

DR Laura, I only find snow picturesque when all my family is home safe and sound, we have plenty of groceries in for several days, and no pressing reasons to be out driving in it.  On days like today, when I have to get to work and my workplace doesn't have the manners to delay our opening a few hours, snow is just an annoyance to me.

Usually they have four....

One of the things I didn't like about Grodin was that he chose a movie that he had made that he thought was GREAT but wasn't well known.  And guess what....it wasn't so hot.  And he was pretty bad in it.
