Thanks, DR JoseSPiano!  Now that Ben's not at the office each morning, I miss his ritual washing of the bowl.  I mean, he still probably does it at home, but...

It's not the same!   :)

Perhaps you need to get a dog you can walk, like clockwork, each morning and evening.  I'm sure he (or she) would gladly lick his (or her) bowl for you.

What's Walter Matthau doing in a Bollywood film?

Not being a cow...

:)   Looks like he reincarnated as himself!

It's a gray and ominous day in Oakland CA this morning.

Rain is coming.  I hope it's substantial (but not as substantial as the Oregonian rains of late).

I guess most folks interested in such things saw that Tim Burton won the Best Director's award for SWEENEY TODD from the National Board of Review, always the first organization to hand out year-end film prizes. SWEENEY was also in 10th place in their list of the year's ten best films.

Hmmm, I feel kind of like Hermione when she uses that hourglass to be in two places at once.  My cubicle computer is still logged on here, but now I'm information-waitressing at the reference desk for an hour.  So, I'm logged on this computer, too.

Isn't my life exciting?

I'm heading down now to tidy up some things (cleaned the bedroom areas this morning), and then start on lunch.

I think I forgot to mention that a nice fellow (I think he's either in the Gay Men's Chorus or has something to do with them) wrote me after seeing The Brain in NY and desperately wanted to sing I Need An Earthman at some show or function.  I said yes, of course, and to expedite things had him get the sheet music from dear reader elmore.  He wrote to tell me it had gone splendidly and he'll be sending me a DVD of the performance.  In other Brain news, I believe the Brunel University production in England opens this evening.

And I'm up, and must now shower and get ready for my ten o'clock in the City of Culver.

AKA, Attack of the Flying Yarmulkes!!

Speaking of yarmulkes (and who wasn't)--a news announcer on Oregon Public Broadcasting once pronounced it phonetically, i.e., YAR-mul-kah.  It took us a minute to figure out what the h*** he was talking about, at which point we all devolved into uncontrollable giggling.

TOD:

The Children's Hour
Some Came Running
My Geisha
Ask Any Girl

I love my Shirley when she is funny - but she can certainly turn on the drama as well.

Forgot to mention, one of my all time fave MacLaines--Desperate Characters, co-starring my sweet friend and sometime collaborator Susannah Mars' dad, Kenneth.

How Shirley failed to get even an Oscar nomination for that performance is one of the all-time Academy stumpers.  She actually should have won that year, hands down.

The Brain From Planet X is advertised thusly:

"A spoof 1960’s sci-fi musical – with a PG rating (humorous mild sexual innuendo)…..think Carry On meets Dr Who…………"

I woke up this morning thinking about DR DCelt and her family, which lead me to think about DR Danise and Dr Elmo and others who had lost loved ones this past year. There is nothing one can say, but I do hope you'll think often of the good times with your loved ones -- the happy memories -- as your comfort and your peace as you work through the grief.

I come on this site, one, for the entertainment -- all of you make me laugh -- often out loud -- and two because of the compassion, care and love you all show in your posts for each other, your families, your friends, and your pets. (And it's been supported by those of you I've met in person in LA and NYC). Sure, some of us can be snarky at times or get our feelings hurt, etc., but bottom line you are all so caring and kind -- you've got good hearts. So know that your loved ones upstairs are looking down with pride -- and a toast to them for playing a part in making each of you the person you are.

As I was running around with errands this morning, I stopped in Barnes & Noble and the manager asked me if I wanted to work the next three weeks, and I said yes.  I'm waiting for my friends at the Institute to let me know their plans before I talk schedule with her tomorrow.  I think I'll take on 3-4 days a week.

A word to DR Matt - do NOT go shopping today.

Der Brucer was watching the news, and apparently the parking garage at a shopping mall in your town has collapsed!
