In other news...

I had another Groovy Time playing auditions today for the upcoming Encores! presentation of Applause.  We sang and danced Men in the morning, and Women in the afternoon.  There were some fierce(!) people who came in today too, including a former Elphaba who ended up singing all of "The Wizard and I".  -And she asked for my card after the auditions were done too!  :)

I woke up this morning thinking about DR DCelt and her family, which lead me to think about DR Danise and Dr Elmo and others who had lost loved ones this past year. There is nothing one can say, but I do hope you'll think often of the good times with your loved ones -- the happy memories -- as your comfort and your peace as you work through the grief.

I come on this site, one, for the entertainment -- all of you make me laugh -- often out loud -- and two because of the compassion, care and love you all show in your posts for each other, your families, your friends, and your pets. (And it's been supported by those of you I've met in person in LA and NYC). Sure, some of us can be snarky at times or get our feelings hurt, etc., but bottom line you are all so caring and kind -- you've got good hearts. So know that your loved ones upstairs are looking down with pride -- and a toast to them for playing a part in making each of you the person you are.

That's very lovely and eloquent, Miss Karen.  Thanks! :)

I'm sure I've used condiments in Cheyenne.  I'm about the only member of my family who didn't go to the University of Wyoming (which is actually in Laramie, but you stop in Cheyenne on the way ;) ).  My sister was there when Uncle Dick Cheney was (he's a few years older than she is), and she said he was scary back then, too.  If I may brag for a moment (and when have I not?), the Kauffman Endowment to the University is the second largest behind the Cheney's.  Ours is specifically set up to aid minority students attending the U.  I have joked for years that it's the easiest scholarship in America to get, being as there are so few minorities in Wyoming.

Thank you Vixmom.

Just in time for my birthday I received good news today.  My wrist is no longer broken.  Now I begin the difficult portion of the healing process & I have a referral for physical therapy.  The doctor is still concerned the damage to the soft tissue, nerves, etc. may never heal & I’ll have carpal tunnel-all that from a minor break.:o

I’m typing this without wearing the splint.  Thank goodness for my new, easy to use, keyboard.  I’m taking this splint off slowly & will still use it.  The doctor also said I’m not to use the computer too much.

Here is Mr Cheyenne Jackson from reFRESH magazine.  The photographer obviously arrived early before Mr Jackson was dressed.

Now, now, Cheyenne is just a sweet innocent boy from Seattle (and oh do I know the dirt on him).

What happened to 16 bars?

Well, this was an "invited" call, so they are given the option to sing whatever they want, whether it be a whole song or just 16 bars of it.

Yesterday we took a walk in town & stopped to visit friends.  Sherlock was given an early Christmas gift, a stuffed Gingerbread Man.  You should have seen the smiles on the streets as he walked along carrying it.

Today he insisted we play chase with him & “try” to get it away.  It is a game we play in the bedroom.  We know he is playing cuz he will get to the door & turn around & run back to us.

I guess most folks interested in such things saw that Tim Burton won the Best Director's award for SWEENEY TODD from the National Board of Review, always the first organization to hand out year-end film prizes. SWEENEY was also in 10th place in their list of the year's ten best films.

I'd read about this.  Someone posted clips on YouTube from the making of special that aired in L.A. (only?) this past weekend, and I am really looking forward to seeing the movie! :D

Help!
I need you techie photo finder HHWers to help me once again. I keep thinking it was JRand or der Brucer (?) who found it last time. (I know it's in the archives, but I can't even remember which month and I don't have time to go through a zillion posts -- I'm not even caught up from all my E and T behavior).

I need a photo of a life raft, not life boat, from circa 1912-1914. In that post from early last year (or was it the spring?), it was a picture of some sailors posing on the deck of the ship and you could see the life rafts hanging on the wall behind them. If someone finds it again, please PM for my home email, I'll send it, and then if you would forward me the photo, I'd be ever so appreciative.
Thanks!

Good evening one and all.

Thank you early morning denizens for the kind words about the "bowl washing"

As you know I'm not around during the day. I've been exhausted (but good exhausted) by the time I get home. I clean up, we have dinner and then I may glance at the television but I'm in bed early. In fact, last night I went to bed at 7:30pm and didn't awake until 7:00am this morning.

The volunteering is going very well. We have been very busy (as usual). There seem to be fewer people this year so I feel busier than usual but we have been very productive. There are two large groups with a delivery date of this Saturday and their bags need to be finished by tomorrow afternoon. One group is finished and the other group will be finished by tomorrow. Our main problem now is finding space to put the finished bags so we can open and fill more bags. Once the two big deliveries are done over the weekend we will have more space. The two big groups are close to 600 bags alone. This year we are scheduled to do over 3000 bags for the first time (the project has been going on for 22 years). The total is close to 3100.

We have volunteer appreciation party on December 17th. It will be very nice (I know because I have been to other Volunteer parties thrown by the host in his exquisite Central Park West apartment. From Friday, December 14 through the end of the year, my time is my own. Ant and I don't have any big plans, just relaxation and visiting friends. We will go out to Long Island for Christmas and then back to the city for New Years.

That's all from Chelsea.

Also, in answer to the morning question, "Who's singing second tenor?" Not me, said the baritone.

Oh...well....DR BEN....how do you know a soprano is at the door?

Because she can't find her key and doesn't know when to come in.

Wonder how I found it in the first place?  LOL.  Thanks again from both of us.  You just know I was going to be crazy trying to find it.

And tonight is another Irene Dunne night on TCM with some of her "weepers".

FYI (or not -- maybe no one is really wondering...) I needed the picture for set purposes -- for my thesis project next spring, I'm directing O'Neill's one-act Thirst, so I want the raft to look as authentic as possible.

What is everyone's LEAST favorite Christmas song?

Does it have to be a Christmas song? My two least favorite Christmas carols are "It Came Upon a Midnight Clear" and "O Little Town of Bethlehem."  I don't know why I don't like them, but I don't.  The Manhattan Transfer recorded both of these with beautiful arrangements, but even that doesn't help...me, anyway. :P
