Hmm...  I had thought "The Boy From Brooklyn" sounded familiar, and sure enough after some Googling...

The "original" play with music, "Danny and Sylvia" was one of those sleeper hits in DC a few years ago.  And, yes, Brian Childers won a Helen Hayes for his portrayal of Danny Kaye.  -His co-star at the time, Janine Gulisano, was also quite good in the piece.  IIRC, it was just a two-hander.  So... I'm guessing Brian - who I do sort of know from auditions and such - just wanted to continue his love affair, as it were, with Danny Kaye.  -And if you go to his website, well, you can definitely read all about it and him.  ;)

*I did come across one strange pre-review in the Tolucan Times.

-Oh, and, yes, the Gala Opening is tonight.  Not last night.  ;)

BK - How did you end up going to see the show anyway?  Did "The Danny Kaye Story" catch your eye?  Or do you know someone involved with the production?

And do you happen to know if the Music Director, Randy Booth, is the Randy Booth.  -Who was with the tour of Beauty & The Beast from day one to day last.

Hmm...

While perusing the website for "The Kid From Brooklyn", I came across this:

Mr. Childers' Rave Reviews: too many to list, can be view on his website.  Click here  to read why you MUST see his portrayal of Danny Kaye!

And I think that's all the "promotion" I'll do for that show.

I loved Hans Christian Anderson - still do. And Court Jester. There was another costume piece I loved - but can't remember the name of it... hmmm...

Anyway, I never heard any bad stories about him. Now Sylvia Fine, well...he didn't seem to be quite as fond of her.

Those are the stories I heard.  She was rather controlling & it was difficult for DK to cope with, or to stand up to her.

I also know the little girl who played his daughter in 5 LITTLE PENNIES absolutely adored him.

Danny Kaye's show was a regular drop-by for a little band I like to call Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66.  My brother-in-law's neighbor in Encino was a floor director for the show, IIRC.

Didn't the show have a balloon opening with Holiday for Strings as the theme?  Or am I making that up?

We had an evening of technical difficulties last night at Cinderella.  Someone had screwed with the board and the levels for the pre-record were horrible until about halfway through the first act.  Unfortunately I'm on stage so my attempts to be subtle about the inadequate levels were met with complete ignorance (which is, after all, bliss) until finally the choreographer noticed my gesticulations (which the board op really should have seen quite easily) and told her about it.  The smoke machines also went off for absolutely no reason during the first stepmother/sister scene, bathing the entire theater in a fine (and smelly) mist.  We decided at intermission we were doing "Cinderella in The Scottish Play".  ;)

I hooked up the kids' new XBox 360 yesterday.  It really has some amazing graphics.  MattH, you'll be happy to know I used an HDMI connection for pure digital entertainment.  ;)

HAPPY 75TH BIRTHDAY TO DM OF DR TD!  I'm sure she will be thrilled with her party.

The Chocolate Almond Saltine Toffee looks intriguing.

Re:  Lost.  Is this now-halved 8 episode run the result of the writers' strike?   That doesn't seem logical as they've been working on the series lo these many months it's been off the air, haven't they?

Don't know anyone involved with The Kid From Brooklyn - just was interested in the show and was hoping I'd love it - maybe the earlier version was better, with the different creative team?

TOD:

THE COURT JESTER
HANS CHRISTIAN ANDERSON
WHITE CHRISTMAS

I’m also fond of a sweet bit of fluff, ON THE DOUBLE.

I remember with fondness his last performance on the Bill Cosby Show.

And now it's time for Uncle Jojo to possibly go ice-skating - more like ice-stumbling - in Bryant Park.  -Although, I'll just opt to stay outside the rink and take pictures.  :)

TOD - I think I've seen some of "White Christmas", but I wouldn't be able to pick Danny Kaye out of a crowd.

JRand, that blonde wigged go go dance number is from, believe it or not, a Meena Kumari film titled PHOOL AUR PATTHAR (1966) which I just ordered on DVD yesterday from Indiaweekly.com...I don't even care if the movie is any good or not, I just want to be able to watch that musical number!!!

Although I have a few Danny Kaye movies on DVD (unwatched as of yet), it has been many, many, many years since I have seen most of his films. I do, however, love WHITE CHRISTMAS.

Nine hearty souls showed up for my program this morning and all of them turned in the evaluation form.

It's snowing like crazy here in SW Ohio.
