THE FINAL FRIDAY OF 2007
« on: December 28, 2007, 12:19:07 AM »

Well, you've read the notes, the notes were informative and not, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home, which will be on a Friday in 2008, I'm quite certain.

I am tired of reading the notes on Friday; this shall stop!

I shall read no more Friday notes this year!

Other planned 2008 stamp issues:

The Art of Disney: Imagination, featuring animated characters.

(Which I'm sure will greeted with great joy)

Traditional Christmas Stamp featuring a detail of a painting titled "Virgin and Child With the Young John the Baptist" by the Italian master Sandro Botticelli.

(Which I am sure will be greeted with great law suits)

Dec. 26: Ice covers the South Haven lighthouse and gantry along the Lake Michigan shore.

Dec. 24, 2007: James Moya, of Elyria, Ohio, gets a "lip smack" off the top of a wave on turbulent Lake Erie, at Edgewater Beach in Cleveland. Moya and other Cleveland area surfers enjoyed some Christmas Eve surf due to high winds created by the winter storm that blasted the rest of the Midwest on Sunday.

Here's the story, morning glories:

This has been the travel day from hell.

I know you probably all have worse stories, but I was a good boy and arrived at the airport well in advance of my flight.  Actually, another flight to Atlanta was leaving about half an hour after my arrival, and I attempted to get a seat on it just to guarantee me a cushion on the 30 minutes I was scheduled to have to make my connection once arriving in Atlanta.

Alas, no...the flights were ALL full.  The earlier one, mine and the one after mine.  Who knew, though, that I'd be sitting there waiting for my flight well after the one after mine had actually departed.  My one o'clock flight departed at 3 p.m.!  Maintenance issues was the reason.  Two hours late.  And of course, my Altanta flight to San Francisco departed five minutes after my flight left Columbia.

Fortunately, I was rebooked on a 6:55 p.m. flight to San Francisco.  Oh, great!  Well....it gave me time to make some phone calls.  And it gave me time to eat something.  And it gave me time to ponder all the time I was spending in an airport terminal far from home.

My 6:55 p.m. flight was on time...and a bit unusual, as it had an international stew crew!  The flight had originated in Mexico City.  Nevertheless, the first class service was fine, the food was great, but the sleep opportunities were nil.  It was just not feasible for me to nod off for more than a few minutes.  Something always awoke me.  "Hairspray" was, once again, the inflight movie.

My luggage was waiting for me in baggage claim at SFO when I got there at 9:30 p.m. PST.  At 9:40 p.m., I was at a curbside shuttle stop waiting for a shuttle to the east bay.  At 10:10 p.m., I finally got one.  He seemed reluctant to pick me up, but he had been designated as the "east bay shuttle."  I was his only passenger.

I got home at 11:15 p.m.

And here I sit typing.  I've been to my office and removed all my packages, presents and whatnot of a personal nature to peruse later in this day.  There was quite a haul to bring home.

I've had myself a nice little egg nog toddy...and I'm ready to prostrate myself upon my bed.

Or, at least, lie down for a good night's sleep.

That's the word, hummingbirds! Thanks for all the good wishes, etc.

This has been the travel day from hell.

You flew transcontinental in one day and your luggage arrived with you!

This, dear Ron, is NOT a travel day from hell!

But we're glad to have you back safe and sound.

Topic of the Day:

just watched, recorded to VHS and deleted from my DVR:  the last four episodes of "Big Shots."  My friend Margo likes Michael Vartan and she asked me to record this show because I was watching it.  She doesn't have cable.  So last night, I took the time to watch the four episodes that I had recorded and to tape them for her.  I also have the last two episodes each of "Grey's Anatomy" and "Private Practice" to watch (and record for Margo) also.

'Bullitt,' '12 Angry Men' among honored films

Quote
WASHINGTON (AP) -- From "The Naked City" to "In a Lonely Place" and "Oklahoma!" the Library of Congress is adding 25 more classic American films to its national registry.

There are "12 Angry Men" to be heard, "The Strong Man" to be viewed and "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance" to be dealt with.

"Even as Americans fill the movie theaters to see the latest releases, few are aware that up to half the films produced in this country before 1950 -- and as much as 90 percent of those made before 1920 -- are lost forever," said Librarian of Congress James H. Billington in announcing the selections.

"The National Film Registry seeks not only to honor these films, but to ensure that they are preserved for future generations to enjoy," he said in a statement.

The 25 chosen this year bring the registry total to 475.

Well!! I have just received the following message from our Information Technology group which makes everything crystal clear:

Quote
We have done some clean up on the ACP/ACR services that have been replaced with the HFP/HFR services.  We cleaned up the corp client set ups and the current TEs.  If you have any problems with the HFP or HFR services, please submit an email to the RS TrackIT mailbox and we will resolve the issue.  All destination referral fees should be booked to the HF service on the DOTA.

Please Note - the WWL for ACP was .20 and the WWL for HFP is .05.  You may see a difference in your WWL in the case where we removed ACP and replaced it with HFP (or ACR replaced with HFR).

Wow lots of postcards from the restaurant at EBAY, if you want to see them, just search House of Murphy.  The Short Snorter's cocktail lounge was dedicated to aviators everywhere....
