The season premiere of LAW & ORDER happens tonight on NBC. They're running two new hours back-to-back, and these hours introduce new cast members to the show. Linus Roche will now be the primary ADA with Sam Waterston moved up to the head DA job. I love Linus Roche, so the show should benefit from this change. Jeremy Sisto also joins Jesse Martin as a detective in the show's "Law" part.

I believe that SVU was a new episode last night.  At least, it was new to me. More bad teenage girls.

I'm posting without first reading the posts. I had no idea Larry didn't sleep well, either. Is there an East Coast insomnia vibe going around?

Yes, my cable guide identified the episode as new. It didn't indicate new or repeat for BOSTON LEGAL which is why I had a question. I was watching the Jerry Herman special, so I didn't get to check it out last night as there were no commercial breaks on PBS.

I'm heading down now to check mail (hooray!), clean the den (it IS Wednesday, after all), and then set about fixing some lunch.

I had an interesting discussion yesterday with an economist who works at the Federal Reserve. He thinks that the economy isn't in as bad a shape as the press makes it out to be.

Now there is a very UN-HHW topic! But I found it interesting.

What's this fuss (an Emily Litella reference) about the man finding a $185,000 check and returning it, and the surprise that he only got a $50 reward for returning it?

It's a check.  wouldn't he have been in trouble if he tried to cash it?

I must be missing something regrading this "big story" of honorable behavior going unrewarded.

I like that. Has that been used before? BK is forever going to the Post Office. But then, that would deserve its own special term.

Jeanne - Actually, if you google "errand and truant," you'll find a few previous uses of the phrase, all of them oddly on HHW!  :)

More from yesterday's party:
My neighbor Kitty has been complaining because some of our neighbors don't keep take care of their "gardens" and a group of opossums were hanging out on her fence and scaring her little dog. Another neighbor said she spotted two large SNAKES in our alley, as well. And be with a big hole in my attic! EEEWWWWW! Thank God/Matt that the hole is now fixed!!! Had it not been, I REALLY would have not slept!

funny, it never occurred to me to do that. But I'll keep the phrase in mind; I quite like it.

DR FJL - I don't know about the news story, but a few months ago, I lost my car keys in the parking lot of a local Super Stop & Shop.  The person that found them [within a few minutes] would not hand them over to me unless I "rewarded" him with cash first.  I found this very disturbing.  I wouldn't dream of doing this if I found someone's keys.

Well, I gave him the cash....which was $20, since I had no smaller bills.

I realized afterward that I could have said, "Oh, my wallet is in my car, if you'll give me the keys I'll give you something," and then driven away quickly.  But I never think well on my feet in situations like this.
