Jose - I got the mail place because I was rarely home to receive packages.   The mail comes quite late in the day here, when I am usually out, and I don't have the patience to wait for them to re-deliver or to go to the post office to retrieve it.  The way the mail place has always worked is they're there from eight-thirty to six-thirty and 90% of the time it works the way it should.

And the word of the day is: SUPPLICATE!

...could it be that the startlingly original premise of Groundhog Day is actually in the public domain, that anyone is free to do a story about someone living a day over and over until they get the day right, as long as they don't use the particulars of the Groundhog Day (or "12:01") characters and plot, just the overall premise?...
I suggest a story about a supermarket cashier who has to live through an entire shift, over and over, until all of his/her customers remember to get all of the things they wanted to buy on their first try.

Fie! I'd go see Tom Wilson on Friday, but the Comedy & Magic Club seems pretty snooty to me. It's a pity, because he's a riot.

...Maybe that's a question for "free for all" day, if anyone has any thoughts on it:  Is there ever a point where an idea becomes so unique that no one should ever copy it, or are all basic ideas subject to being used by someone else if they can put their own spin on it?

I got upset when I noticed my Slurpee cup had a TM after the words "brain freeze." As in "Warning, may cause brain freeze! TM"

Oh, maybe it isn't a TM (I think it's an ®) & my wording is incorrect.

I'm working on the launch of several shows for TLC. One looks very interesting: The Secret Life of a Soccer Mom.

They take a woman who has given up her career to raise her family and ddrop her back into the working world at the point where she would have been had she not taken a break. They don't tell the family, though. They know mom is doing a reality tv thing but they think that she's off at a spa during the week, taking a break while a staff of people help take care of her household duties.

After a week of being in the workforce, (with a break every day to see highlights/lowlights of what happened with her family during the day on a video feed) she is then askes whether she might want to continue ot be a stay at home mom or go back to work.

I don't know how any of the episodes end, since they are still being edited, but I thought it was an interesting premise. I generally despise reality television but since it's paying the bills right now I'm starting to "appreciate" it more!
"I hate my family, I hate my husband, I hate my kids, and I want my old life back!!!" cried the Soccer Mom.  "I... I... I'm having a Lynette moment!"

You don't have to be dressed up at all to get a croissant at Petrossian.

Had I known, I might have made my hotel reservaitons at the (cheaper) Wellington than at the Edison.

Actually, maybe it's a good thing I won't be near Petrossian!

I was given this LITTLE PEOPLE, BIG WORLD job after 2 other editors tried to deliver a tape and failed. (Not their fault, IMHO.) I was asked to give it the "Amy Linton touch". What the hell does THAT mean?
Other people would call it "magic."

You walk (over to Petrossian from the Edison), therefore you eat (a croissant).

All the talk between SWW and Jose about roasting bones for soup stock was also very fascinating to me, but also made me feel like I am such a rookie in the kitchen that I shouldn't even bother...
We are all rookies at one point or another.

Take it a step at a time.  Making stock isn't that difficult, but time consuming.

And there are so many other things to learn how to roast.  Chicken, for example.

I really should get a chicken out of the freezer now, if I'm going to roast it tomorrow.

And I should get dinner on the table.

It shouldn't take long.  Yesterday, I made a very nice pot roast.  Problem was, der Brucer was totally zonked out, with every dog zonking with him on his bed.  So I simply told him that it was scrounge night, and that we'd have the pot roast tonight instead.

They say that pot roast is better the second day.  Tonight will tell.

In CA, it is indeed the norm. Term Limits on legislative offices (state and city) have created a merry-go-round of political office holders. The school boards are now considered "entry level" positions for those desiring to seek higher office - they are temporary stepping stones; serving is just getting your ticket punched. If you run for School Board you will be carefully vetted by the respective political parties to be sure your "core values" are in keeping with party goals. When, in the past, I complained that a candidate's views on abortion or trade with China were not germane to running the schools, I was loundly lambasted for being disloyal to party objectives! (Note: at the time I WAS the chairman of the Local Republican Assemby Central Committee and Woody was Chairman of the local Republican Congressional Central Committee and we were both members of the County Central Committee, and I was a member of the State Central Committee.) I'm not sure the party has ever recovered from the site of an openly gay male couple running the show!

der Brucer

It just doesn't make sense, I believe you-it is simply idiotic.  I have personally known two people who ran, and won, seats on the school board.-one in Michigan & one in California.  Both were motivated by the needs of their child to get involved.  Neither had had higher aspirations.

one-two-kick! one-two-kick!

Or is that a polonaise?  We had the same debate about the strange little dance piece in the ms of BABES IN TOYLAND.

Some mazurkas have an accent on the second beat (of three).  Some mazurkas have an accent on the third beat (of three).  However, depending on the tempo, they can either be categorized as a mazur, oberek, or a kujawiak.

If you'd like more info - and/or would like to be further confused - you can consult the following sources:

Hi, y'all.  I'm posting from my sister's "beach cottage" (all 4000 sq of it, LOL) in lovely Emerald Isle, NC.  We had a very nice visit in Greensboro the past two days with various members of Betsy's family, whose cousin's son had his Bar Mitzvah.  Who knew there were so many Jews in NC, let alone Greensboro?  I certainly didn't.

BK, glad to see your comment about Jarre in the notes since I made a similar one a few weeks ago and was afraid it would be considered sacrilege.

May I just say that I have seen more BIG screen tv's at our various relatives than I have ever seen in my life.  We started at my sister's Raleigh townhouse with what I think were about 40 or 50 inchers.  Then we went to Betsy's cousin's mini-palace in Greensboro and his rec room had a plasma unit that took up a whole wall--I'd say minimum 6 feet wide.  Then in coming to my sister's beach home we walked into their "media room" with a full movie-screen sized wall projection unit.  I'm having size envy with memories of our paltry 37" unit waiting at home.   ;D

Cillaliz, I thought of you at one of the get-togethers today because it turns out my brother-in-law edited various Edwards spots that ran only in Iowa.  If you saw any spots of him speaking informally to groups in a home environment, my bro-in-law did those.
