George-Clever idea putting the litter box in the cabinet, however, do you have a protective liner in there?

From Singdaw:
Quote
We watched Ang Lee's Lust, Caution last evening.  I found it very haunting.  But, DR Jane, there is some graphic violence!

If the plot appeals to me I will still watch, and this one looks good.

How sad about Ben Chapman. Did he play the creature in all three films, DR MBarnum?

I am still recovering from DR RLP's pictorial collage from last evening!   :P

I'll take that for the "whatever" it was intended to be!  Any comment is better than NO comment!   :D

Another sad news report: Ben Chapman, who played THE CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON (in scenes that took place on land) died this morning.

I met him several years ago and he was quite a nice guy...and quite tall, too!

And much better looking without the make-up.

How sad about Ben Chapman. Did he play the creature in all three films, DR MBarnum?

Just in the first film...Tom Hennesey played him in REVENGE OF THE CREATURE and Don Megowen played him in THE CREATURE WALKS AMONG US. Ricou Browning played the underwater scenes in all three films.

I just love those movies! And the creature costume is so cool!

DR JANE - Ben was the GillMan on land in only the original film, others got into the costume for the two sequels.

Ben used to be very upset when Ricou Browning who SWAM in the Creature costume would sign his name to stills of Ben standing on the ground.

Ben Chapman and his sister would do a Tahitian Dance Act at the Mocambo and they would often be joined onstage by his good friend Johnny Sheffield, then playing Bomba at the Monogram Studios.

Johnny said that Ben taught him how to surf and dance.  Ben was six and half feet tall.  Johnny also said that the three things that kept him in shape in those days were dancing, swimming, and sex and that he and Ben cut quite a path through the town in those days.

They must have made quite a pair wondering around town.

The title Those Magnificent Men In Their Flying Machines or How I Flew from London to Paris in 25 Hours 11 Minutes gives the movie-goer a pretty good idea what the film is about.

Conversely, the title Pink Flamingoes does not.

Oddly enough, I don't think I ever went to a movie 'cause of the title. It was either the cast, trailer, genre, boredom, etc. One book, BOOKS DO FURNISH A ROOM, I would have picked up, but it's a title in the series DANCE TO THE MUSIC OF TIME, so I just read it in the spot where it came in. I also purchased the Brit TV version of said novel-series, but haven't had a time to watch it yet. I did notice some irregular bleeping on COMPANY on PBS last night, 1/2 of Jesus Christ and one asshole, but it was definitely hit or miss.Re the HAIL MARY, Wikepedia or the new catechism might provide more info, but part is direct from Luke's gospel, where the angel Gabriel says Hail full of grace, The Lord is with thee. This is the Annunciation, subject of so many glorious(and some very bad)paintings...The phrase mother of God, comes from one of the early Echumenical councils where it was debated whether it was better to call Mary, the Mother of Jesus, or was mother of God, a kosher title; It was decided that since the Church acknowledged Jesus as God, it was proper to call  Mary Mother of God(Theotokos)this is a long post so I'l let someone else post the whole prayer, but Mary was a nice Jewish girl from Nazareth, so it's fine for a nice Jewish boy from LA to say Hail,Mary. Now I'm leaving the Library and I'll be listening to all Frank Loesser Cds on the Stereo.

Mostly titles were listed for the week on the TV page and the titles would make me watch or skip movies that day.

Anticipation was great on Saturday, when you had to wait until the NEXT Friday to see:

Attack of the 50 Foot Woman
It Conquered the World
Them!
I was A Teen Age Werewolf (Frankenstein)

And as DR MATTH mentioned tonight is LOST and ELI STONE.

I watched Joan Crawford in SADIE MCKEE and TORCH SONG last night.  Interesting.  Early Joan - she sure was determined!  And I listened to the painful TORCH SONG recording session....take after take after take....

JRand, thank you for the photo of the young and handsome Ben, as well as the personal info.

It still doesn't tell me if MBarnum wrote the mini bio (or is this your way of saying you did?).  It sound like our Mikey, especially this little comment: "One of nature's true gentleman."

Mary was a nice Jewish girl from Nazareth, so it's fine for a nice Jewish boy from LA to say Hail,Mary.

Exactly why I have no problems celebrating the birthday of Mary's, nice Jewish, son.  Easter on the other hand I rationalized as a celebration of spring and bunnies.

Wrong.  It delivered the second half reasonably well.

Oh, and as for the TOD:

Movie titles never really mattered to me one way or the other, but I do have a funny story about a show title. The Lovely Wife(tm) and I went to see Naked Boys Singing when a good friend of ours was in it (TLW swears that her eyes were closed during all of his scenes), and seated in front of us was a neighbor of ours who... well, let's just say that we always wondered why he got divorced from his wife. Obviously somewhat uncomfortable with us seeing him there, he turned to us during intermission and said, "I just got my ticket through <*name of papering service*> I had no idea what this show was about!"

Now, I grant you that many a title can mislead, but I don't believe that there has ever been a more clearly-expressed show title in the history of drama...

DR JANE - the young picture in my post was Johnny Sheffield.  I couldn't a young picture of Ben, but he was quite handsome.

I don't think DRMBARNUM wrote that mini bio - I don't recognize the name signed to it, but who knows?
