But while there are undoubtedly people who will forever connect "Thank You for Being a Friend" with the Golden Girls -- and I have no problem with it being anybody's favorite TV theme song -- the fact is that Gold had a Top-25 hit with it in 1978. It's not like it was just lying around unnoticed. I'm one of those who remember it as the radio hit it was, years before people started connecting it with Bea Arthur.

I met and interviewed Andrew Gold once. He's a great guy with a wonderful sense of humor. "Lonely Boy" is a favorite of mine.

I remember Andrew Gold from his work on Linda Ronstadt's recordings, before he soloed with the album which produced "Thank You for Being My Friend."

Our building super has befriended down the block a family made up of the offspring of first cousins, and he's allowed them laundry access in our basement. They have tied up the dryers for the past 4 hours and I want them dead today. For what they've wasted in hours today they could have used the expensive laundromat down the street where I do my bedding and it wpuld have cost them probably no more for an hour than they've spent in the past four downstairs. Since they're screwing mup my schedule today, I am not happy at all. Not in the least.

Speaking of basements, the building in which I work has 2 underground levels. The "upper" level (first floor below ground) is a public area, housing the magazine department. The "lower" level (second floor below ground) is closed stacks, housing about 2/3 of the books available here at Main. There is rather severe flooding in that area and we've been unable to retrieve all the books that patrons have requested today.

I watched a couple of NUMB3RS episodes to begin my afternoon of viewing. The first was a story of sexual predators being hunted down by a serial killer. Very surprising identity of the murderer. I liked this episode.

A second NUMB3RS episode dealt with co-star Peter MacNichol's exit for the series for a time (supposedly going up on a NASA space shuttle) but actually the actor was cast on '24' that season and was busy on another set for half the season.

Oh, the mystery that revolved around that story had to do with a MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE type story with trained assassins who would kill specific people and then kill themselves. Very interesting variation on that famous story.

I also watched the men's short programs at the World Figure Skating Championships. My goodness, former world champions slipping, sliding, and falling all over the place and yet less than 2 points out of the lead. Despite the much ballyhooed point system they now use, nothing seems much changed about the fantasyland of scoring figure skating.
