I did order my very first Blu-Ray title, yesterday:

I wanted to get something very special and I think that this might be.  I can't think of any feature film that is "special" enough to be my first Blu-Ray DVD purchase.  My sister bought the standard DVD and on her high-def TV, it looks great.  I think that this (when I get a high-def TV and a Blu-Ray DVD player ;)), will be in-freakin'-credible!!

:D

The Blu-ray of PLANET EARTH is incredible looking (though I do think some episodes show greater depth than others). The episode I always use to impress newcomers to the joys of HD is "Shallow Seas" (which is on disc 3, I believe).

Good morning!

Overcast with rain early this morning and more promised for later in the day. It IS going to warm up, however, which makes the rain more tolerable. For me, nothing is worse trudging around doing Friday errands in a cold rain.

And I'm not really complaining as we need it desperately, too. Since I do my errands on Friday, rain is inconvenient on Fridays, but even then, I know for the greater good we do need it.

Friday media check -

CD(car) - audiobook - Joyce Carol Oates' The Falls, narrated by Anna Fields.  Yes, it's the same one I reported 2 weeks ago, but missed about a week of listening when in Minneapolis, away from my car.

DVD - whatever DH Richard has received from NetFlix.

So, I'm guessing that SOUTH PACIFIC is now the unqualified favorite to win the Best Revival Tony (over SUNDAY IN THE PARK and (shudder) GREASE).

Let's see:

CAROUSEL and THE KING AND I have won Best Revival Tonys.

OKLAHOMA! and THE SOUND OF MUSIC lost the Best Revival Tony.

I got such an early start this morning that I already mopped the kitchen floor (a detested Friday ritual), and now that I'm finished surfing the net, I'm ready to head down and get started on the rest of the day.

Who remembers where they were 40 years ago today?

I was a senior in a Detroit high school.  The city was still reeling from the riots of 1967 and some incidents occurred over the next several days.

I was in college as a 2nd semester Sophomore.  Dr. Betty Cox, the best English lit teacher I ever knew, spent the entire class session of Great American Writers reading MLK's published sermons/speeches to us.

I've had a couple of misty moments since last evening thinking of JRand's loss.

The two revivals REALLY in the running are South Pacific and Gypsy. Sunday will be nominated but most likely won't win. The category doesn't have to have 4 nominees and based on how the community feels about Grease I doubt it will even get a nomination.

Mr. Riedel has an interesting take on the situation. I think DR Jose linked this column on Wednesday when it was published.

Gypsy South

I think, and this is only my opinion, that the Tony voters will probably give the nod to South Pacific. Both Gypsy and SP got wonderful reviews but there were some quibbles about Gypsy (direction and pacing mostly) and the talk about SP runs from rapturous to glorious and everything in between. With reviews this good they may extend (until the opening they were only selling tickets through the end of June or whenever it was scheduled to end), especially if it wins the Tony.

Based on the number of that last post I could, perhaps, qualify to work at the Off-Broadway facility on the East side of Manhattan which houses Primary Stages and had Skip's work a few months ago, 59 East 59th

DR Jose, if you're free tomorrow afternoon, it would be a better time for me.  We can see whatever of the three we talked about.

DR Jane, re: the show LIFE.

When I said I wondered what "special powers" the lead guy has it didn't come out like i meant.

What i meant was he seems to hear things, and things come out (at least in the first show) that don't seem quite normal. So i was just wondering what that was about.

I am very happy that GHOST WHISPERER has a new episode tonight.

Btw, has anyone who watches AMERICAN IDOL ever seen a show called AMERICAN IDOL extras. I have no idea what channel it airs on in the US. Here in canada i caught it on STAR when i was flipping through the channels last night.

It had the eliminated contestant. And had a segment on clay aiken and broadway.

As for the Topic of they Day...

I've finally started importing a couple of CDs into my iTunes on a semi-regularly basis, and I'm trying to balance out my "old" with my "new", so...

Tuck & Patti - "Tears of Joy"
The Who's Tommy OCR
Ben Folds Five - "The Unauthorized Biography of Reinhold Messner"
"Finding Nemo: The Musical" OST (It's available on iTunes)
"High School Musical 2" OST
Billy Joel - "An Innocent Man" - After all these years, I still love this album.

It's a syndicated show, and I can't remember which channel(s) it pops up on here stateside.  It is an interesting show.  They cover not only the people who made the finals, but also some of the more memorable auditionees.  It's actually sort of well put together, and there's no sense of condescension or mean-ness either.
