Along with the usual challenges at work, I have a new one.
Kerri, who is young and pert and perky and young and cute and young ... How young is Kerri? She has no idea who a lot of the stars of the past are. She simply cannot identify them by name, or if she has ever seen them in their signature roles. She is not alone in this, it turns out. Several of my coworkers who are her age cannot identify such people as Doris Day or Gregory Peck. It's startling, but true. The stars of yesteryear are simply beyond the range of these youngsters' radar.
I have determined to change this. I'm going to start loaning her some DVDs from our collection. One at a time, so as to not burn her out by going too fast. I'm thinking of starting with
Singin' In the Rain - what better than a film that is about the film industry itself, and at a significant turning point in the industry's history.
I'm pretty sure that in the future I'll be loaning her such films as:
The Adventures of Robin Hood
Casablanca
Auntie Mame
The Music Man
To Kill a Mockingbird
I just don't have a clue as to any order, or what I'll be following these selections with.
The good news is that Kerri seems to be interested. This could be fun!
