After getting my hairs cut, I headed up to Ripley-Grier to briefly(!) meet up with a young woman I had worked with a couple of years ago.  Actually, she was still a "girl" when I worked with her.  She was playing "Young Eleanor" in Eleanor: An American Love Story at Ford's Theatre back in 1999.  Since then, I've actually seen her mother on a semi-regular basis since she part of the volunteer staff at SETCs, but I hadn't seen Emily since closing night at Ford's.  Well...

Her mother told me a few days ago that Emily had been called in to audition for the role of Christine in The Phantom of the Opera.  She had played the role last year during it's college/university premiere at Baldwin-Wallace College, and it happened that some of the staff from the Broadway production not only came in to see the production, but had also come in during rehearsals to provide some coaching.  Apparently, there's an "immediate need" right now for the tour, and Emily got a call to come in.  Of course, she's currently in the midst of a summer stock contract in New Hampshire, so it's been quite the scramble for her - and her mother - over the past 48 hours.

In short, she flew in last night, booked a warm-up room for this morning at 9:30, auditioned at 10:00, and then flies back to NH at Noon... Then goes into tech for Millie this afternoon.  Whew!

I happened to make it up R-G just as she was finishing up her warm up.  We had a very brief reunion, but we all ended up sharing an elevator with the music supervisor and the production manager on the way down to the studio, so that was nice.

I would have stayed to listen to her through the door, but I had a feeling I would have been a distraction.  -And since they were have an open call for The Little Mermaid today, there were lots of actors and actresses walking the halls looking stressed and emitting stress.   ;)

But it was great to see her again, albeit briefly, and, I hope that by now she's already in a cab heading back to LGA to catch her flight back to NH.

BK, I think your answer to who dubbed Mr. Steve Reeves is in my interview with Tony Russel, which was in an issue of VIDEOWATCHDOG last year. Mr. Russel was quite involved with dubbing over in Italy, as well as starring in assorted sci-fi and sword and sandal movies.

*And if one were to take a close look at the liner notes, one would see a familiar name.  Well, perhaps even two.  ;)

DR MBARNUM the issue looks fine.....lots interesting things.  I particularly like the article on the Grammercy Pictures releases from Levy-Garder-Laven, by Lelia Lobhan which is continued in the NEXT issue.

Hello DR JOSE....wow that girl is BIZZY!!

And that was not even the half of it...

She's currently the dance captain for the company she's working for in NH.  On Friday, she was informed that the actress playing the Mistress in Evita was withdrawing from the show due to illness.  She was asked to step into the role - even though she had not ever rehearsed it.  Of course, since she was the featured tango dancer, she then had to reblock all the dances in the show.  -And she had to do all of that and deal with making all the arrangements to get to NYC on Friday afternoon!  She went on as the Mistress that night, and then still had to prepare her track in Millie the following day.

My mistake, BK, that Steve Reeves dubbing info is in my upcoming interview with another actor who worked in Italy. I just looked at my draft and the actor he mentions as dubbing Reeves, at least in one film, is Frank Lattimore. I know there was was one other dubber for Steve Reeves as well, but do not recall the name.

If things work out, in the near future I will be interviewing many of the men and women who dubbed over in Italy. It is a subject that has always interested me.

As for the Topic of the Day...

I used to make some variation of a cold orzo - the pasta that looks like rice - salad.

The basic version basically involves cooking the orzo until it's done, draining, and cooling; then adding a briefly cooked/blanched package of frozen peas and carrots.  *And to save time, you can even cook the peas and carrots at the same time you cook the orzo - just add it during the last few minutes of cooking time.  Then dress the whole thing with bottled Italian dressing.

For fancier versions, I've toasted part of the orzo in a dry skillet to give it a little color.  I think my favorite combination now involves adding dried cranberries, chopped hazelnuts, crumbled ricotta salata (or feta cheese), some mache and a light dressing of red wine vinegar and olive oil.

For some reason, I mentally keep getting Mamma Mia mixed up with another musical, one starring Johnny Depp.

No, not that one, the other one.

We also have to thank der Brucer, for correcting my improvment errors on the spreadsheet we use.  Adding the column for the reason we know these people, so that they aren't just names, made it possible to have that many Smiths running around all over the place.  But it was der B who made it work.

There isn't anything on the television schedule for tonight that makes my heart zing.

That's fine by me.  I've been re-viewing a lot of Disney and Pixar DVDs of late.  I haven't done any real writing for quite some time, and that commentary about communities and individuals as seen in Pixar films is the best idea I've had for writing in a long time.

Of course, I don't have any idea where I'd publish it, but that's besides the point.

Re-watching the Disney films is for a point of comparison, of course.

Strictly as research.

Not a whit of digressing into entertainment, not one bit.

OK... Time to get started on my packing, and, hopefully, finish it.*

Laters...

*Of course, since I didn't fully unpack my bags from two weeks ago - they're still sitting on my bedroom floor - it really shouldn't take too long to pack for the cruise.  ;)
