Despite the ratings in some of the books, I preferred the buffets at Mandalay Bay and  Paris to the highly-touted buffet at the Bellagio.  Maybe the Bellagio was too elegant for my tastes; something about it didn't feel conducive to stuffing my face for two meals' worth, as I did at Paris and Mandalay Bay.

But the carpets at the Bellagio and the Wynn and the Venetian were the best of what i saw, although we didn't take pictures.  I had never noticed the carpets before Laura and HHW, but they do make a real difference as to where you want to spend time, both on the feet and the eyes.

The carpets at the Mirage were terrible on the feet.  Couldn't get out of there fast enough other than to see the "Love" show and use the business center.

singdaw - "THE Hotel" is very elegant, on the elegance level of a Ritz Carlton, pricy on weekends but a bargain on weeknights if booked reasonably well in advance.  As it happened, despite the exclusive look of the website, 90% of the people were wandering around very casual, T-shirts and shorts/jeans were the norm possibly because of the heat.

Glad to see FJL back where he belongs.  At least he avoided the drama of the last three days - he can always go back, however, and relive it.

A funny aspect is that we spent a lot on the shows, but still reveled in saving a little bit of money on food by having the two-meal buffets.

Back from the long jog and I must say it was the easiest it's ever been - my back didn't hurt at all, my legs worked well, and I ran at a brisker tempo and cut five minutes off the usual time it takes.  It actually felt good.  When I've lost another seven pounds, I will probably start taking a day off and here there, but not until then.

Jose -  They'd been there since Thursday morning, and I think seven days (Thurs. morning to Wed. late afternoon)  is just a day or two too long.  By yesterday, my brother in particular seemed anxious to get home, and I know that had nothing to do with my being there for the last few days.  :)

Had I known in advance my reaction to KA, I possibly would have tried to see Cher again on Tuesday night instead of the KA early show, but then I wouldn't have been on time to Lance Burton's show, which was an unexpected delight.  

My family did not share my interest in Cher, though.

I had to do a system restore which was not as difficult as I thought it would be....and my computer is fine.  I did have to reinstall a small Light Scribe program....but otherwise....as Doris would say:  "It's magic."

My sister-in-law and nephew (who's 19) went to see the comedian Carrot Top while I was seeing Phantom, by the way, and then they met me with the car at the Venetian when Phantom was over.  Carrot Top's show is apparently much more elaborate than a simple comedy routine, and they loved that show.

Lucille Ball at the switchboard in THE FULLER BRUSH GIRL, and later getting drunk in the same movie.

Lucille Ball in EASY TO WED on finding out that her fiance Keenan Wynn wants her to marry Van Johnson to help avert a lawsuit:  "What do you mean it won't be a real marriage?  I say 'I do', he says 'I do', and the judge says 'You bet you do' and we're MARRIED!"

Rosalind Russell handling a typewriter, a telephone, and Cary Grant in HIS GIRL FRIDAY.

Barbra Streisand and George Segal's exchanges in THE OWL AND THE PUSSYCAT.  She catches him changing his clothes:
George:  Do you mind?
Barbra:  Oh, you think you got something special, you think you've got something I haven't seen before?
George:  One of the very few, no doubt.

She is outraged that these mere MEN have invaded her planet and questions their motives and presence....

Willock replies:  I'm just fine, ma'am, and how are your folks?

Mitchell's outrage is so funny....and Willock never does understand what he said.  What a perfect moment that set the tone for the movie, if you hadn't gotten it before.

I'm about to leave for a meeting that could go on all afternoon.  The good news is that, when it's over, my workday is over.  

On my way home, I have to stop to pick up my contribution to the covered dish dinner (Dorothy Lane Market Killer Brownies) that my book group is having tonight.  Some of us have read Edith Wharton's The House of Mirth and, after dinner, we're going to watch the movie with Gillian Anderson as Lily Bart.
