Netiquette question:

Is it considered rude to send a Facebook friend request without any note or comment included?  Does it make a difference how well you know the person, or how well they know you?  Or how long it's been since you last communicated with them?

Just curious what DRs think...

Hmm... I'm also  wondering if it is rude to accept without a comment.

Surely students using the resources for term papers, etc, wouldn't be accessing YouTube! I mean, this is the Public Library - a citadel of erudition!

der Brucer

Surprisingly, Youtube is used a lot by college students...

Especially those in media studies and sociology...

See post 104. Or was it 109? It was one of Singdaw's.

TOD - In early October of 2004, when I was in NYC for a work conference, DR Elmore told me about this site.  I lurked for a while, until DR JRand posted a picture and asked who knew the woman's identity.  Knowing the answer, I registered, ID'd Nancy Dickerson, and the rest is history.

The funniest thing is that during that NYC visit, DR Elmore kept telling me about his friend Jane who was also in town.  I thought she was someone he'd known in college or professionally for a long time, but it turns out that it was our very own DR Jane.  She and I didn't actually meet, face-to-face, until a year later.

I kicked myself later for holding back on the suggestion we all get together.  It was the first time I had met DR elmore & figured he wanted alone time with each of us.

DR Jose,  I enjoyed the photos, especially the one of you with your birthday cake.

DR DerBrucer, thank you for the photo of the “new” Santa Monica mall.  When we were in L.A. we stopped in the area and wondered what was going up.  I never liked the old mall, this should be much nicer.

DR Ginny, your bird story for the day is much better than ours.  Ours is rather gross.

A bird flew into the open driver’s side of the window & smashed into the back window, splattering blood everywhere.  We aren’t sure if the bird hit Sherlock before hitting the window.  He was very upset, not that we weren’t.  We quickly stopped to get the bird out of there before he got to it.  I then sat in the back seat, away from the blood, & gave Sherlock the front seat for short distance left to drive home.  Good thing it was short cuz Sherlock ended up sitting backwards in the seat, obviously confused & uncomfortable.  Once we returned home I had to scrub the back seat & window, and then we cleaned Sherlock.

As for "that" photo of Sarah Palin...  Did people really think that was really her?!?!?!?

Does anybody think a practiced big-game hunter and an NRA member would pose with a BB-gun?

I didn't expect the cartoon to represent a story that has been proven false.

DR Jane - while the list has been deemed bogus, the professional library press has been reporting that there was some contention between the local librarian and the then newly-elected mayor of Wasila.  I suspect the librarian was too vociferous in her support of Palin's opponent (which is never prudent for a public employee).  When Richard was a public school teacher, we'd never put campaign signs in our yard for school board candidates, even when they were personal friends.

Oh, DR Jane, I hope Sherlock and you and Keith are OK - it sounds pretty frightening.

One of the young librarians in our department saw my comment on Facebook pointed out that our library parking lot is full of fat, slow-moving squirrels.  So, my story could have had a "circle of life" quality to it, too.

Thanks DR Ginny.  It happened too quickly to be frightening.  I saw the bird heading for Keith's window and didn't have time to warn him.  At first we felt very sorry for the bird, then realized Sherlock was getting interested.  I quickly got him out of the car, shook out his blanket, bird & all, before putting him back into the back seat.  It was then that I realized the mess all over & had to get quickly get him out of there again.

It was scary, sad, disgusting, and if you were watching from afar might have been funny.

It's still pleasantly cool here, too. I love it. I wish this would herald fall right now and that there would be no more hot weather this year. It won't happen, but I'm enjoying this as long as it lasts.
