I did have time to get into the GREY'S ANATOMY Blu-ray set and watch 1 1/2 episodes. Yes, the shows look wonderful in high def, but it's not the major upgrade in image that LOST on Blu-ray was from the regular DVD issues. Of course, with all those Hawaiian locations on LOST, of course it looks awesome in HD.

That song was touching, BK. No one writes a song like Meltz and Earnest.

RE: THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF THE BROTHERS GRIMM.

I am definitely not holding my breath for Warners to do ANYTHING with it. The film was never a big hit to begin with and really hasn't developed any kind of real cult following in the decades since. I find real entertainment value in it, but I think I'm in the minority.

The last time some of the home video people did a Warner chat and were asked about it, they claimed flat out that the movie would require too much costly restoration to make it a viable proposition. That was a couple of eyars ago, but I doubt much has changed since then. The print TCM shows is as lackluster and flat as the laserdisc was.

I really liked Brothers Grimm and I saw it at least five times at the Warner Cinerama in Hollywood.  Frankly, I don't understand why West is so much more well thought of.  Grimm was very entertaining in Cinerama - big, fun, splashy, and terrific music.  I know it's not a great film, but I don't happen to think West is a great film either.  This is history, and Warners should step up to the plate and restore it.  It's not like they're hurting for money.  They could restore it, make a new Cinerama print that could bring in revenue, and do a Blu-Ray and SD-DVD that I'm sure would sell just as well as West.

I felt that Meltz and Ernest really went a little deeper than they usually do - that song is surprisingly wistful and melancholy and yet happy and gay.

I'd certainly buy it, but I'm afraid I'm going to have to be satisfied with the pale shell of the film I recorded off TCM.

We had homemade biscuits with eggs and bacon for lunch.

I don't think they were poached, we bought them in the supermarket.

Poached eggs:
Combine 1 1/2 inches water (about 2 quarts) and 1 tsp. vinegar in a wide 3-quart heavy saucepan (preferably about 9 inches wide) and bring to a simmer.

Break 1 egg into a small bowl or cup and slide egg into water. Repeat with each remaining egg, spacing them evenly in saucepan, and poach at a bare simmer until whites are firm and yolks are still runny, 2 to 3 minutes. Transfer eggs as cooked to paper towels using a slotted spoon.

Right on! (I used a 10 in pot with 2" water & 2 tsp vinegar). Since I am putting the eggs in a bowl with heavily buttered toast pieces (2 pieces whole wheat, 1 piece rye, 3 eggs) I skip the drain on paper towel step - I just give the spoon a good jiggle to get rid of most of the water).

So easy, even a record producer could do it!

Let's see...

The Weather folks warned that of "certain death" for those remaining on Galveston Island (the sea walls are 17', the expected surge is about 25' with 6-10' waves on top of that).

The Governor has warned those staying that they will NOT be provided with rescue services.

FEMA has asked those remaining to please ink their SSN on their arm so the body can be identified.

Yet, the news channels still find partiers planning to ride out the storm!

I understand not trusting the government - but think, people, think!

I don't eat poached eggs but I'm under the impression they are very easy to cook.

I began my afternoon watching the bonus features on LA RONDE. Pretty good. I especially enjoyed a correspondence fro Laurence Olivier to the son of the original playwright asking for permission to perform the play at the National Theater and getting a firm no from him. Sometimes all the Oscars and titles and world recognition can't get you what you want.

There's a chronologic problem here, DR Matt H: the play was written by Schnitzler in 1897 and the playwright died in 1931, so Sir Laurence must have had a problem with the son about the translation. I can't imagine the son could stop a public domain play from being newly translated?

Jack Jones Still Swings; Elaine's Gang

Yes, that was the great '60s and '70s crooner Jack Jones in Elaine’s Thursday night, with his fiancée, a friend, and Bobby Zarem. He’s at the Algonquin Friday and Saturday night and all next week. Watch him on You Tube with Cleo Laine here.

Jack and Cleo, just like Vicki Carr and so many great singers, were from a generation of great vocalists who lived off Las Vegas, touring and variety shows. Michael Buble and Josh Groban are the Jack Joneses of today. If you’re in New York, don’t miss him. Jones turned 70 last January. He’s still partying like it’s 1979. ...

This is quite the slow news day here at haineshisway.com.  You'd think it was Poached Egg Day or something.

Well... I've vacuumed, I've dusted, I've laundry'd... And now I just need to clean off my desk - a.k.a. dump everything in a box and forget about it for a couple of weeks. ;)

DR Jose, want to go out for dinner? I want some grilled fish and I do not cook fish. I'm in the mood for salmon, tuna, or cod.

I just mailed my estimated taxes and it's been raining. Is this part of the Ike fallout?
