Last night I watched YENTL on TCM.  I haven't seen it in years.  Aside for a few minor laspes, I do think it's a wonderfully directed film with all three leads giving nice performances.  It's so often the butt of so many jokes that I've forgotten how much I really do like it.

I agree. I have quibbles about some things but overall, I think YENTL is excellent.

What I want to know is, why is it still not available on DVD in the US?  I got a copy from Amazon.co.uk (I love my region code-free DVD player!) three years ago.

Remember I told y'all about the great job Richard, Rob, and Mary Linda did cleaning up the storm debris from our yard last week?  Well, the power company sent their "tree guys" around to chop out part of a tree that was interferring with some wires and Richard is single-handedly dealing with the mess they made.  Our neighbor had the nerve last night to hassle him about not getting the job done fast enough and about how some of the branches are on her property.

B***h.

It's actually August: Osage County

Lol--I keep confuzing the title with Osage Avenue here in Philly--the site of a police confrontation with a radical group called Move--at the height of which the city dropped a bomb on the surrounded rowhome which resulted in burning down the entire city block.  Which is sort of what happens in AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY in a way...

My only problem with YENTL was that Barbra has ALL of the music. She's a marvelous singing actress, but spreading the wealth around might have made it seem something less than a vanity project.

I'd seen an interview with Mandy (who played Avigdor) about this and he said that Babs' concept was that all the singing was Yentl's thoughts.  Mandy's response was, "Avigdor thinks."

So....

I just received a box from Amazon.com.  It was for an order I placed on Sunday.  Since my order totaled more than $25, and since I didn't really need what I ordered immediately (printer ink refills), I went ahead and requested their Free Super-Saver Shipping... That was a very fast "6-9 days" delivery period!  :)

*And, I'm so glad I checked the prices on Amazon - via my iPhone - when I was shopping for printer inks a few weeks ago.  At both Staples and Office Depot, I would have spent about $110.  On Amazon, just $60!  -Even the MSRPs on Amazon were lower than the ones at the stores.  ?!?!?!

Well, maybe, DR Jose, but that's how I've felt about this neighbor for 20+ years.  As soon as we moved into the house, she explained to Richard that the hill between her house and ours was on our property and she expected him to mow it.

I also suspect, elderly as she is, she has not been out and about much in the past week and a half to see just how much debris is still around.  She probably thinks those branches are the only ones still not cleared away.

Richard has decided to t-a-k-e   h-i-s   t-i-m-e dealing with them.

The mystery of THE OTHER BOLEYN GIRL has been solved--it's a BBC television production, new to DVD.

There's a really cool version of Route 66 on KHMD right now combining the Troup and Riddle songs.

Not to be confused with the theatrical film produced by BBC Films and Focus Features starring Natalie Portman.
