Alice Faye fans are vicious!  :)

What did you say about the Alice Faye box?

I evidently had the audacity of not thinking it was the greatest boxed set of all time.  :)

FJL - maybe he screwed up, but I gave him all the online addresses, including Ann's specifically.  I'll ask him.

DR JOSE what a LOT of life you are having in all in ONE visit!

<nod>

I had actually hoped to meet up with a couple of more friends, even see a show, but I'm glad that this past week has turned out the way it has.  It's been both emotional and low-key at the same time.

Interesting Frances Farmer news from DR JMK....a star for Frances....  Does she have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame or whatever that is?

DR JRand - Frances Farmer does not have a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.  I asked about her/it when I was in L.A. earlier this year.  I was hoping to be able to take a picture for you.

Shocking!  Thanks for the thought!

I am sure Ms Allison Hayes is also without a star....Hollywood is not a great place for history...even its own.

Alas, Ms. Hayes is also Star-less.

Dear Laura:

This is what a real fish looks like:

Try fitting fifty of those in a bucket!

Then imagine have to clean and filet all of them!

I just got offered the MD position for The Producers at Portland's biggest musical company for next summer.  Closing weekend is the Saturday of Gabe's Bar Mitzvah, so I need to work out some scheduling issues before I accept.

Ohh... Well, the reason I turned down that gig was to make sure that I could attend Gabe's Bar Mitzvah...

Good Evening!

So, it looks like tomorrow night's "Saturday Night Live" could be a quite a doozy.  Sarah Palin is confirmed as a guest - the rumor is that she is going to play "Tina Fey".  ;)  -And Josh Brolin is the host - and he's currently starring in "W" as "W".  Hmmm...  Set your VCRs/DVRs now!

I did just that! Thanks for the reminder

And on a related note... Pardon me for almost-getting political here for a moment, but...

During the second hour of today's "All Things Considered" on NPR, they had some "incredible" coverage of the current political climate in West Virginia.  Well balanced, and it showed the good and bad of both sides of the issues and the aisle.

West Virginia Voters Wrestle With Race, Rumors

*They also ran a wrap-up of the debate, and what it revealed about both candidates. Well worth a listen too.

Bk - FYI, Ann is in NYC (and therefore not at her home base) through Tuesday - so of course no big rush in getting the new release to her.

Happiest of anniversaries to DR VIXMOM and VIXDAD.

DR CILLA LIZ - I will be interested to hear how the WW goes.  As I wrote, my friend Jerry conducts the classes and they have a great success rate.

Thanks JRand, I'll give it a while and tell you what I think.  I really like the idea of it and the amount of food I can eat and still not eat all my points in a day. Amazing

Just got my first ever bile-spewing, death-threatening "fan" mail about one of my reviews.  Ready for the punchline?  It's in response to my review of the Alice Faye boxed set.  I am LMAO.

Wow! I can't begin to count the number of negative responses I've gotten to reviews over the decades. Yep, some threatened death or at least serious injury.

This is my friend John Cavins Baughman, Jr.  Here he is in the Bahamas last winter.  This is the photo he enclosed in last year's Christmas card.

I first met him in 1985 when he played Sir Joseph Porter KCB in a "young people's" production of HMS PINAFORE.  He was so funny and a very nice guy and an audience favorite.

We did several shows together.  He was Mr Applegate when I directed DAMN YANKEES and he was Boris Kolyenhoff the ballet instructor when I was Grandpa Vanderhoff in YOU CAN'T TAKE IT WITH YOU.  I was Froggy when he directed THE FOREIGNER....

He always came to see my shows even though he moved up to the big city of Indianapolis and moved on in his life.

Some emotional troubles - but we were always only a phone call or email away for each other.

I began my evening viewing with CINERAMA ADVENTURE. I very much enjoyed the documentary, seeing clips from all those wonderful Cinerama travelogues, and finding out the histories of some of the men responsible for its creation. I didn't know much of that.

Last Saturday, John C. Baughman, Jr. died at age 42 of complications of HIV.

Tomorrow I will be one of three people who speak at his memorial at Gobin United Methodist Church in Greencastle.

It never gets any easier.  That's for sure.

Next I pulled PINOCCHIO off the shelf and watched it. I got the notice today about the Blu-ray release of the movie next March (and a new Platinum edition of the DVD, too), and it reminded me I hadn't seen it in a long time, so I watched it tonight. The color on that old DVD is very rich, but I could certainly see places where I'm sure there will be clean-up and repair. Even this old DVD had a Dolby Digital 4.0 audio track, but no mono track. That won't make folks happy today if they don't include the original mono along with any repurposed audio mix.

I guess I would understand if it were something like The Godfather (not to state the obvious), but Alice Faye?  It just makes me giggle (which of course means the guy is probably going to turn up on my front porch tomorrow with a bazooka).

Well, people love who they love. But why folks get so bent out of shape over one person's opinion, I'll never quite fathom.

I wasn't thrilled with tonight's GHOST WHISPERER episode. It was OK, but once again, Jim doesn't get to play any part in the story, and I'm just not digging Jaime Kennedy. Also, I'm really tired of these stories based on computer alternate realities. This is the third one I've seen on CBS.

LIFE had a good mystery at its core, but I can see why the show just isn't catching on with more viewers. What with him still trying to find her framed him and the story with Adam Arkin's rather uninteresting character, the show definitely seems scattershot in its storytelling.

DR Jane- Sounds like the cop was just a jerk knowing that you'd be leaving town and that it would probably not be worth your while to fight the tickets. I've never heard of fighting a ticket after you pay it.  But then it is California...:)

Jack, I'm so sorry to hear about the passing of your friend.  When I saw your first post, I had thought it might have been some sort of "death notice", but since it was not mentioned... Then when I read your subsequent post...

I hope that amidst the tears, tomorrow's memorial service will be filled with many happy memories and even some laughs.  Celebrate His Life.
