Well, you've read the notes, the notes were wry, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - and if they're not here soon, they're toast.

DR vixmom - OUCH!  and WOW!?!?!?  -Now what would you have done if your dentist's office had closed down before you turned around and got back there?  -And did someone just "forget" to reset your crown?

*I've never had any sort of dental work like that done before.  In fact, I've never had a filling, since I've never had a cavity.  Even my wisdom teeth grew in with no problems.  (Whew!)

So...

I ended up spending the evening in the company of another DR, DR singdaw to be exact.  We both attended the presentation of Bernstein's "Mass" at Carnegie Hall tonight.  Beforehand, we had a pretty good Cuban meal at a place on 56th Street.  Then we headed over to Carnegie Hall...

Well, I can barely keep my eyes open after not really getting enough sleep and then having to get up three...count 'em, THREE hours earlier than my normal time of awakening.  I must go to bed now.

So good night DRs Der Brucer, Ron and Jose, and anyone else.

I first encountered Bernstein's "Mass" when the Kennedy Center presented it back in 1981 as part of their 10th Anniversary Celebration.  -It was originally commissioned for the opening of the KenCen in 1971.  I didn't see it live, but I did see the PBS broadcast.  And I taped the PBS broadcast.  And I watched it countless number of times until the VHS tape was worn out.  Joseph Kolinski was the Celebrant (and Walter Willison was the alternate).  Jubilant Sykes was tonight's Celebrant.

Fast forward to earlier tonight...  To say that I was moved, blown away by the piece would be an understatement.  Yes, there are still some "dated" and hokey moments, but for all its excess, the piece still speaks to me.  -And after the past few weeks of "stuff" with my Mom and Dad, there were some moments tonight that I found almost cathartic.

I also knew some of the actor-singers who were cast in the "Street Chorus" - which was basically a Who's Who of Broadway ensemble members.  I was particularly very happy to hear - and very proud of - Telly Leung and Max Perlman.  Thankfully, I was able to meet up with them afterwards in the Rose Museum where there was a mass "meet and greet".  I also got to congratulate Pat McCorkle on the fine casting she did for the piece, and I even got to say a brief Hello and Thank You to conductor Marin Alsop, who said she remembered me from when she was a Music Director candidate for the Richmond Symphony about 15 years ago.  -I think she was just being very kind and cordial.  I also ran into a couple of other friends at the reception too.

It was truly a wonderful evening.  -And I may be going to the performance tomorrow afternoon which is being presented further up in Washington Heights.

*And I didn't realize that the whole troupe travels back down south to DC to present it on Sunday at the Kennedy Center.  -They performed it in Baltimore earlier this week.  -That's a lot of singing in playing in a weekend's time!

Nah, it wasn't spicy.  Although, I do love the salsa verde they have there - just the right amount of "kick" to perk things up.

So, after I walked DR singdaw back down to Grand Central, I decided to go ahead and just walk back across town to catch the A Train over at Eighth Avenue.  -It's a truly nice evening here in NYC.

As I was walking past Town Hall, I noticed there was a crowd waiting at the stage door.  It turned out that Don Rickles was playing there this week, and people were waiting for him to come out so that they could get autographs.  Well, among those stage door Johnnies were a couple of friends from the Mary Poppins cast.  They hadn't seen Mr. Rickles tonight, but they had some friends and relatives who had, so they just ran over to Town Hall after they were done to wait with them.  Well, they didn't feel like waiting - apparently, Mr. Rickles was taking his time.  However, they did feel like heading over to O'Lunney's for a beer or two.  So...

Again, a wonderful evening.

*And I even went ahead and walked back up to the Fifth Avenue Apple Store (since it's open 24 hours), and purchased a new "sleeve" for my new laptop.

Jose,

Here's gig you can miss:

FOX411

Quote
"Dreamgirls" is going on a national tour, returning to the stage after the hit movie (still the best film of 2006, I think).

But first there’s going to be an open casting call for the main players on Nov. 1 at the Apollo Theater. Sign in is from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.

I’m just getting the Advil out thinking of all those girls singing "And I’m Telling You I’m Not Going." That should be quite a day in Apollo history!

It seems the Joseph kolinski who played the Celebrant in MASS in the day (Jose's reply #13) may have been, indeed actually is, the same Joe Kolinski who played Centauri on the Kritzerland CD of the musical THE LAST STARFIGHTER, as well as in the NYMF readings where BK played the "Dan O'Herlihy" part to Joe Kolinski's "Robert Preston."

Yesterday I received a very interesting CD!  I shall be listening to it this evening after work.  I like the cover/back art/photo very much.  And I know NOTHING about either of the productions that the music is taken from.

I got some very nice magazines from DRKERRY yesterday as well!

And my two books on the infamous L/L case.  One recommended by DR CILLALIZ - For The Thrill of It bySimon Baatz, and the other Evil Summer by John Theodore.  I started with the latter since it is shorter....interesting.

I am assuming that your friends in the MARY POPPINS cast do not play Jane and Michael Banks.
