Just got an automated call telling me that UPS is delivering a package to my house tomorrow that HAS to be signed for.  I am guessing/hoping it is my TELEVISION returning from its sojourn in Buffalo, New York.

That's why I can't wait for the future when we will have robot servants to sign for packages.

But who will sign for the delivery of the Robot Servant?

Your mother-in-law (but only if she's Spring Byington.)

So, sophisticated HHW'ers.  Do men still wear white dinner jackets to early evening events?  I always thought they looked very nice.

I think the Labor Day rule applies to white dinner jackets--even if they are heavily textured.

DR DtM is correct....and Esquire magazine adds:

And if a man is particularly serious about formal convention, a white jacket should never be worn in the city “unless one has a napkin over his arm or a saxophone up to his lips” in the words of Esquire magazine.

TOD:

Bette Midler--sometime in the early 80's in a show that was a mish-mash of the set pieces she had done up to that point.  Before she had been Disneyfied and was still pretty bawdy and way campy, in great voice and shape and still getting along with her Harlettes.  A fun fun show and she couldn't stop doing enough to entertain the crowd.

Dave Matthews Band--summer of 2004, at the Tweeter Center in Camden NJ--great song set with a lot of jamming and riffing in strange little bits (like the Linus and Lucy Theme).  Also a terrific crowd and just enough of second-hand weed in the air to helped us pretend that we were stoned.

Don Rickles--Latin Casino in the late 70s--I was that close to peeing myself.  Also, praying that he would not come near our table.

TOD:

The Nylons, at the Wiltern Theater.

Great concert of a capella work, very well staged.

Sad, what happened to the group later.  One retired early, one died (AIDS), and the other two have had a falling out.

Continued TOD:  Based on the sheer joy and delight scale, I'd have to add Jason Graae's show to this category.

Yes DR KERRY the tropics have their own rules vis a vis the white dinner jacket - with or without a saxophone.

Best live shows/concerts I've seen:   "An Evening With Dame Edna" which left the muscles in my face sore for about a week

How could I forget??  I saw Dame Edna in Seattle and she was hysterical!

That's true, but in that case you must also be sure that you only approach women who are drinking gin or white wine (or else keep your suggestive comments to yourself--fresh!)

Last minute TV-DVR-VCR Alert...

Paolo Szot - the Emile in the current production of South Pacific - is a guest on Martha Stewart's show today.

Thanks for the info!  I went to set my DVR and the description read like this:

"Pumpkin Carving and Broadway's Paula Szot", (2008), Pumpkin-carving with Michael Natiello and Lisa Berberette. Also: Tony winner Paulo Szot ("South Pacific")....

Paula??  At least they corrected it. ;)

I'd also like to add:
Jerry Herman Tribute at Carnegie Mellon University - featured Jason Graae, Paige O'Hara, Karen Morrow, Don Pippin and the man himself, Jerry Herman.  Part of the wonder of it all was that Jason and I had been communicating via email, snail mail and IM for years, now we finally met face to face.  Jason also introduced me individually to each of his stage partners.

Bette Midler - Syria Mosque, Pittsburgh - mere days after her Cleveland gig which was recorded and released as "Live at Last."  The same show, the same jokes, well, except for the remark that the venue looked like a Ramada Inn IN LEBANON!  "Pittsburgh, burgh of the pits."    Great performance and I'm happy that it was captured on disc.

Favorite concerts:

Barbara Cook at Carnegie Hall (IT'S BETTER WITH A BAND) - the first of five times I've seen Ms. Cook.  Carol Burnett bumped into my on my way to the rest room.

Carol Burnett bumped into your what?? :o

Good Afternoon!

Well, almost-almost packed - just need to pack up my computer.  I burned a whole slew of discs into my iTunes library - and subsequently my iPod - for my listening pleasure over the next couple of hours and days.

I will undoubtedly be posting from the bus, so...

Laters...

And thanks for the Travel Vibes.  -I'm wondering just how much the almost rush-hour traffic will affect today's commute.  We made good time when I took the bus down on a Saturday.  I suspect the time will not be as good today.  We shall see.
