In all my years of voting before Oregon switched to mail in ballots, I don't recall ever having to wait in line for more then a minute or so. In fact I usually found that the places were fairly empty.

I believe, DR MBarnum, that they run when they see you coming.

By the way, you are going to love THE AMAZING RACE tonight.

I am trying to figure out the name of a war movie I saw when I was a child. No, Larry, it was a talkie.  I believe it was a British film made in the late 50's early 60's.  A World War II naval battle movie, but told more from a German standpoint, rather than an Allied treatment.  It involves this German battlship or whatever, that manages to sink a large number of Allied ships, but the Captain always goes in and rescues the crew members from the water.  At the end of the movie, the Allies show the captain no such kindness as they blast the ship to pieces.

Any ideas?  I thought it might be THE BATTLE OF RIVER PLATE, but it doesn't seem to have been told from the German perspective.

I'm surprised it wasn't stereopticon slides!

I am truly shocked to learn that the new James Bond film, 'QUANTUM OF SOLACE' contains a scene of Daniel Craig without his shirt!

Shocking.....only one scene?  What's the trouser report?

Finished my food, all of it was very good.  I'm quite full now, but then again I have half the stomach I had four months ago.

It seems ridiculous to me.  Any one should be able to win the race.

Well, she still won the race, just not officially

Watching the Dr Seuss cake baking Challenge on the food network, and I really don't understand this thing about having to carry the cake to the judging table.  Such a cake in real life would be wheeled to its destination, I think?

Well, it would sort of be the equivalent of someone running the race, winning the race, but not officially registering for the race.

The registering of "Elite Runners" is also a safety issue.  Most large races tend to group people according to their pace group in order to control the traffic flow along the course.  Putting an "elite runner" back with the "regular runners" could lead to accidents from tripping and unnecessary jockeying for position.

Now, if I'm remembering correctly, the woman in San Francisco still had the top finishing time, but her disqualification caused to her to not be able to claim the prize money.  But, technically - if not officially - she "won" the race.  ;)

And she felt good about it :)  I still find it absurd one has to state upfront they will, or might win a race.  I can understand setting a time the winner will be announced & if you don't make it by then, I guess ok.

Well, it is only rated PG-13, so I am not counting on it.

If for safety reasons, how about two top levels then.  After all she was there when they announced the winners.  I bet she will register "elite" in all future races.

I must now eat my foodstuffs from Gelson's - a couple of egg rolls, some lobster salad, and a small thing of their righteous red potato salad.  For my snack later, I have some cucumber roll.

Egg rolls, lobster salad and potato salad?  That's a lot of hidden - and not-so-hidden (mayonnaise!) fat grams.  But, calorically, it could still fall within your daily range.  ;)

I haven't looked into all the details, but I'm guessing she was already an "Elite Runner" before she entered the race.  I mean, anyone who finishes in under three hours has to know that s/he is an "Elite Runner".

She said she knew she was good, didn't realize she fit in the elite category or something like that.

Then she obviously didn't read the rules when she registered.

I don't remember.  I don't think she expected to run such a great race.  She also seemed to to handle it well.

I don't remember.  I don't think she expected to run such a great race.  She also seemed to to handle it well.

I know that mistakes can happen, but she had been training, and she had finished previous marathons around the 3:11 mark.  That would definitely put her safely into the "Elite Group".  -And all marathon application forms ask you to fill in your average race pace as well as your previous results.  So, if she didn't read the application or fill it in properly, well... -Not a good example for a grade school teacher to set.  ;)

However...  Nike fudges, recognizes fastest marathon runner as "a" winner

Thanks for the link DR Jose.  I think it is nice they called her a winner.  I had the feeling she didn't put up a fuss, at least after the initial surprise, others did.

I never read anything about the "elite" group being a safety issue.  If I'm remembering correctly not all races have this.  Yes, if it was in the rules she should have noticed, but then I didn't seen the form or how it was stated.

I think everyone here on HHW could be considered elite.

And you know where the elite meet to eat?
