I was hoping Romanian would be on there-darn.  I would have used it to write to DS Craig's girlfriend's mother.

JRand, I think I recorded that Jessie Mathews movie also. I know I set the DVR to record something of hers...I love her singing. I have never witnessed her acting.

TOD:  I am very partial to the work of cinematographer Arthur C. Miller, who worked at Fox in the 1930s and 1940s on some of the most brilliantly photographed B/W films ever, including (but not limited to) "The Rains Came", "How Green Was My Valley", "The Mark of Zorro", "Brigham Young", "Son of Fury", "This Above All, "Immortal Sergeant", "Ox-Bow Incident," "The Song of Bernadette", "The Keys of the Kingdom", "Dragonwyck", "A Royal Scandal", "Anna and the King of Siam", "Gentleman's Agreement", "The Razor's Edge" and "A Letter to Three Wives."   Miller was a master cinematographer who shot in sharp focus with deep blacks and glorious highlights which were often credited as a "Fox look".  He also lent a special magic to Shirley Temple's screen image by lighting her blond curls from behind in several films.

Glorious color films I've enjoyed include "Blood and Sand", "The Red Shoes", "Black Narcissus" and many Freddie Young-shot films, including "Lawrence of Arabia" and "Ryan's Daughter."  Leon Shamroy's cameras were magic, as well, in such glorious color productions as "Leave Her to Heaven", "The Black Swan", "The King and I" and "Cleopatra."

Can't we discuss politics without trashing candidates, just the basis of how things work instead?

I wonder who he wanted, and why did he permit himself to be persuaded to go with someone else.  It is one of my big issues with how the VP is chosen.

My initial choice was Linda Lingle - the Jewish women Governor of Hawaii -

My initial choice of women, of course I too would want to know more about her.

I just think the VP pick should represent the party Presidential pick, not someone who doesn't. ;D (I'm in a hurry & must walk Sherlock)
I heard her name suggested by a number of Republican pundits long before she was selected.

Here's a link to more info on your wood pecker. They are really cool.  My mom had one in the back yard a few years ago.

Nearly all of the Vincente Minnelli M-G-M movies feature gorgeous color photography, I'm really partial to the look of YOLANDA AND THE THIEF and THE PIRATE; MEET ME IN ST LOUIS is also lovely.

Francis Ford Coppola's films always have interesting uses of color, whether or not the film is good or not:  ONE FROM THE HEART, THE OUTSIDERS and RUMBLE FISH (black and white AND color); THE GODFATHER and FINIAN'S RAINBOW are both beautifully photographed in color.

I mentioned A PASSAGE TO INDIA earlier, but, the other color films of David Lean which impressed me with their photography were DOCTOR ZHIVAGO, RYAN'S DAUGHTER, LAWRENCE OF ARABIA, SUMMERTIME, BLITHE SPIRIT and to a lesser extent, THE BRIDGE ON THE RIVER KWAI.  There is lovely black and white photography in his GREAT EXPECTATIONS and BRIEF ENCOUNTER.

And then there's Hitchcock's THE TROUBLE WITH HARRY's heavenly technicolor as well as the diffused colors of VERTIGO and TORN CURTAIN.

Musically speaking, I like the cinematography of:
HALF A SIXPENCE
THE SOUND OF MUSIC
THE KING AND I
VICTOR/VICTORIA

Good Evening!

Well... I ended up back at MoMA this past afternoon.  I made one last brief pass through the Kirchner exhibit which closes this coming weekend, and, yes, I also paid another visit to the Van Gogh.  -Even though my "visits" were brief - and even a little bit hurried - I still found and noticed new-to-me things in both exhibits.  And even though I've read all the poetry and prose selections in the final room of the Van Gogh exhibit a number of times, some of the selections seemed very "fresh" to me today.

...And since I noticed that the MoMA Audio (WiFi) guides had been updated, I also checked out the new Miró exhibit again.  Thankfully, the galleries were not at all crowded on the sixth floor, and the MoMA Audio guides - along with a docent who was giving a personal tour to some guests - really helped me to understand and appreciate some of the more "blunt" works in the exhibit.  I still need and want to spend more time in the final three rooms.

The reason I had to "hurry" through MoMA this afternoon was due to a very leisurely late afternoon lunch in Cafe 2.  ;)

I treated myself to a Salumi and Cheese Platter.  It's a Pick-It-Yourself assortment (three of each) served with flatbread and olives.  So, today's salumi selections: hot sopressata, speck, and wild boar cacciatorini.  And today's cheese selections: sottocenere, castelrosso, and gorgonzola cremificato - basically, not-"stinky" to "stinky".  However, all very yummy!

*And the gelato/sorbetto trio for today: toasted almond, pumpkin, and honey-crisp apple.  :)

Did the google translator and sent off the e-mail - we'll see about a response.

I thought it translated it on the spot.

It did.  He's waiting for the response from the company in France.

Yesterday, S. Woody White posted:

Quote
A co-worker of mine insists that no one who voted for Obama could possibly have also voted for Proposition 8 in California, or for the equivalent Proposition 2 in Florida.

Let's see...

In California, Obama recieved 61 percent of the votes.  The yea votes for Proposition 8 are tallying at 52 percent.

Results revealed today indicate that Blacks voted 2-1 in favor of Prop. 8...or, roughly 61% of the Black voters in California voted "Yes on 8".

...And there have been various editorials, op-ed pieces and blog entries today about the "conservatism" of some "liberal" groups.  Some quite interesting reading.

Basically, the main question being asked is: Can there ever be a true, real separation of Church and/from State?

I guess I can be honest and say that at the beginning of this diet for the first time in my life I topped 200 - I began the diet at 201, but I suspect that two weeks before that, when I'd begun running again, that I probably weighed 203.  I'm now down to 166 and I am buff and toned with abs and buns (oh, those buns) of steel.  When I went to the Gardenia, I wore my  khakis and my shirt tucked in - haven't tucked a shirt in since the last time I lost weight - back in the summer of 2006.  I've now lost five pounds more than that 2006 weight loss.

Now it sounds like the perfect time to see a doctor to get a physical as well as to get your blood levels checked.  ;)
