Good Morning!....

I'm up, I'm up.... And I guess it's more like "Good Afternoon!" here in NYC aleady.  And it's raining too.  -Which is neither here nor there. It's just wet.

I don't know why, but I always want to say [or sing] that word a la Jean Hagen as Lina Lamont.

Which can be a problem when you're performing Haydn's The Creation.       :-\

Especially if you're singing it in the original German.

I'll be finishing up the eight remaining episodes of THE ODD COUPLE this afternoon. I doubt I can do all eight this afternoon, so I may have to finish them up before prime time Tv begins.

Which season of Odd Couple?

I watched most of the fourth season recently (library copy). I hadn't seen the show for a million years, and was pleased to find it still very funny. Especially the "fear of flying" episode...that practically had me on the floor!

Felix insists he can lip-read what one of the pilots is saying to the other: "I much fear trouble in the fuselage, Frederick."

Oh! And the one with Jaye P. Morgan in it...the one that has Felix writing that swingin' tune, "Happy and Peppy and Bursting with Love." And Jaye P. sings it at the end!

Fun, fun.

I just realized that I've been walking around the office all morning with my shirt collar unbuttoned.  How embarrassing!

What tipped you off?  All the pointing, whispers, and stifled laughter?

[Can you tell I've done the exact same thing myself many a time?   ;) ]

Very good premiere of TOP CHEF!

Yes, it was.  -And, as I mentioned last night, it was also fun following the live "tweets" from Andrew and Spike from season 4.  Actually, I think it was just Spike since Andrew was still working.  However, Spike did give out Andrew's phone number so that people could call him.  ;)

Well...still, you would think Best Buy would have had at least one sign indicating the 2 for $40 special :(

I guess I should have asked a clerk.

Or maybe you're just used to reading signs in Hindi now?

Good morning.  Toby and I had a very good sleep last night, and he is taking his morning nap on my shoulder.  He must be growing again, with all this sleep he's getting.

Thank you, DRs Jose and Jane!  I just called him and he has absolutely no voice.  It was a short, one-sided phone conversation.

Favorite Berlin songs -

-from one of my all time favorite Christmas movies-
Snow
Count Your Blessings
The Best Things Happen When You're Dancing
Sisters (I sang this as a duet with my own sister for a vocal competition in middle school)

-I was raised on Fred/Ginger/Judy movies as a kid, so I have to include -
Isn't It A Lovely Day
Cheek to Cheek
Stepping out with my baby
A Couple Of Swells

I'm in the mood for some Berlin now.  I wonder if it's too early in the season to watch White Christmas...

DR Ginny, I also send my happy birthday greetings to Richard! Hope he has a great day!

Thanks, DR MBarnum!  Now, he's as old as DR Elmore!

Wow, I did not know anyone could actually get that old.

I keep my chest hair neatly brushed and festooned with ribbons to keep it in place.

The shirt collar tip-off came from looking in a mirror.

A co-worker named Duchesne (pronounced "Doo shane") just asked if I'd like to go to lunch.

Today is "shrimp bisque Thursday" at the Oasis Restaurant.

I looked at him and said, "Buy me bisque, Duchesne"!

All right, all right.  If I must name a Berlin tune of which I am excessively fond, it would have to be "Change Partners", introduced in the RKO Astaire-Rogers musical "Carefree".

DR Jane:  Re: The Facebook requests.  You can, of course, click on "Ignore".  I'm sure "I" won't be offended that several of them are from me.

Of course, they're all just a bunch of flowers for your "L'il Green Patch" which, as it turns out, costs you nothing.  And you'll be saving precious square footage of the Amazon rainforests for accepting (and even sending some to others).

And there may be a few creatures for your "L'il Blue Cove"...again, costs you nothing, saves rain forest, and foments good will and cheer among the folks doing all the sending.

Of course, there are a lot of folks out there who don't have the time to fool with that sort of thing.  I realize and appreciate that.

That "several" are from you is an understatement ;D  Thank you for the explanation.  I have not clicked on them yet & will take the time to see what is involved in responding.

I am getting quite concerned that I have literally lost my mind.  Twice now, both today and yesterday, I could not remember phone numbers that I use virtually daily.  I can remember the numerals, but not their order.

Especially if you're singing it in the original German.

Actually, I believe English was the original language for the oratorio.

Almost...

Haydn was asked by his one his London "fans" - an impresario - to set an oratorio based on the text of a poem, "The Creation of the World".  (A text which Handel was offered, but refused.)  Haydn took the text back to Vienna, and then had it reset - translated by a friend/mentor/benefactor.  Haydn then composed his music according to the German text.  However, once the German text was set, that was translated back into English - not very well, since it was done metrically; and neither Haydn nor his translator were that fluent in English.  However, it has been noted that Haydn preferred that "Die Schöpfung" to be performed in English, as "The Creation" in English-speaking countries.

...Ah, the things one remembers from Music History Class... And I also sang the piece as "The Creation" in high school, and "Die Schöpfung" in college.  -And I do prefer the German. ;)

I'm entering this new Nudie number into the script - I'd worked it out on paper, but as I enter it, I'm rethinking some of the order of things.
