We are having another fund-raising day here...raising money to offset the costs of our "evening" Christmas party (which may not happen this year if enough funds aren't generated to make hiring a place feasible).
Today, we have our Silent Auction, many items for which were donated by me over the course of the past year during several major "clean-outs" at home. I will be helping in the afternoon, primarily in the clean-up.
We also have a Nachos Sale from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. This has replaced, this year, our annual Bake Sale. Folks in charge of the event didn't want to have to slice cakes/pies and portion out cookies/brownies/fudge and then put price stickers on them. They'd rather sling melted cheese over nacho chips. Much easier, they say.
I'm gonna miss the bake sale, although the lady who baked the best cakes (and said cakes were sold "whole") retired a year ago. I have her recipes, but it's still not the same as her sister, a "Sister" in a Catholic order, did their baking, and the "Sister" was not a stickler for adhering to the recipe measure of rum in the Rum Cake or wine in the Wine Cake. Those Rum Cakes brought tears to my eyes, they did! I've made a passable Rum Cake of my own, too, but I try to avoid sweets as a rule.
