I can only find music from the new opera written by Robert Aldredge and Carroll Baker's son, Herschel Garfein.

Wasn't someone mentioning DYNASTY here the other day?  The "Gantry" girl's father's previous wife was none other than Pamela Bellwood!  That puts me two degrees of separation from Joan Collins, baby.

The reviews here did not care too much for the story line and pacing of the new James Bond movie but the box office was great - too much for "Australia" to outsell/

So far the comments for "Australia" have been mostly along the lines of - an hour too long, Kidman is so wrong (and looks uncomfortable) and the word "Crikey" is way over-used!

I just returned from seeing AUSTRALIA.

Yes, it is a bit long...but that didn't bother me up until about the last 15 minutes.

I don't want to be a Spoiler, so I won't go into specifics, but the problem there (as I see it) is that the ending of the film is badly structured, so that the "Final Confrontation" with the lead heavy seems anticlimactic.  I think that if they'd, essentially, reversed two scenes, it would have worked  much better.

I;m back from a fantastic celebration of Thanksgiving with some very wonderful people I'm grateful to consider my friends.  Skip's meal, as is par for him, was quite wonderful and, as is par for both him and DR FJL, extremely generous: delicious turkey, mashed potatoes, a wonderful "kitchen sink" stuffing with all sorts of surprises, green beans, and three desserts, about which more in a moment. Mary Jay made some excellent cornbread and brought a wonderful pumpkin bread from Amy's. There were three desserts: a scrumptious pumpkin pie with wonderful spices, a Jefferson Davis pie, which had a date-pecan layer between the pie crust and filling, and a flourless chocolate cherry cake, which was something I wanted to try but never got to. I had plenty of everything else.

I think it was a most successful day and i would have stayed longer but I was getting anxious about getting home and taking my meds. Thanks for a great day, DR Fjl and Skip!

BK, by the way, looks fantastic.

Now, as to all this speculation about my redoing my drawers, I'm fascinated that such a simple and mundane household task of rearranging/tossing out the contents of various drawers in file cabinets has engendered thoughts about my underwear. So here's a pair of drawers you can fantasize about redoing.

I believe "I Love a Piano" was one of the Irving Berlin numbers interpolated into the stage version of WHITE CHRISTMAS.

Indeed it was...and it's spectacular.  The S.F. second-year production was wonderful, for the most part.  The leads were a bit oddly matched, especially given they were man and wife for real.  He was a bit wooden.  She was spectacular in "Love, You Didn't Do Right By Me."  The sets and costumers were totally glorious.

And when it snowed "on" the audience (Orchestra sections only), the finale SOARED>

Here, for example, is the food.  I can only say that the turkey was moist and great-tasting, the green beans were perfect, didn't have the mashed potatoes, and the stuffing was great.  I had two pieces of turkey breast, two reasonable helpings of stuffing, and two smallish pieces of that fantastic corn bread - all food made by Skip, save for the cornbread, which was made by their friend and neighbor Mary Jay.

*Alas, shortly after that pic was taken, Emily commenced with her usual "I'm scared of my Uncle Jojo" routine.

I wouldn't mind playing with Uncle JoJo.  We can even play the Chauffer and the Contessa!

Next we have the dessert assortment - grand pumpkin pie (I had a reasonable piece with whipped cream) I can't remember the name of the other pie but everyone loved it - FJL can tell you the name and what was in it, and a dairy-less chocolate cherry cake.

The movie of, "White Christmas' (excuse me, "Irving Berlin's "White Christmas") was pretty lame compared to "Irving Berlin's Holiday Inn."  Yes, the movie of "White Christmas" has its moments, but you have to wade through an awful lot of mediocrity.  Rosemary Clooney is a delight as is Mary Wickes and Dean Jagger.  George Chakiris is good, too.  But one watches it for the occasional moments of joy.

I have just the opposite reaction. Though the music is great in HOLIDAY INN, I find the love triangle tedious in the extreme. I find WHITE CHRISTMAS pure pleasure from beginning to end, even those numbers Charles Pogue seems to disdain so frequently in these here parts.

Don't get me wrong, Matt; I fall for the end of "White Christmas" every time!  I like Vera-Ellen; I like "Count Your Blessings" and "Sisters" (both versions), "Love, You Didn't Do Right by Me," and "Snow."  Bing is his usual easy going self, but the movie is not perfect.  But I still watch it regularly , and I still fall for the good parts!

I *LOVE* Vera-Ellen. Her singing voice may have been mediocre enough to require dubbing but no one could touch her on the dance floor. She could do every kind of dance expertly and look lovely while doing it.

I find it hard to believe but I did NOT finish with LOST tonight. I had forgotten that the last episode was 84 minutes long. I didn't bank on so many bonus features. I still have four bonus featurettes to go, so I just called it a night, and will finish them tomorrow morning.
