TOD - I love Thanksgiving - we have hosted dinner many times and always enjoy our family, friends, food, and traditions.  But one of my favorite Thanksgivings was 31 years ago, when my friend Becky and I were both still single.  We went to NYC Wednesday-Sunday, saw 5 shows, attended the Macy's parade, and ate Thanksgiving dinner at Mamma Leone's.  At the parade, a family from New Jersey almost adopted us, but I think the mom secretly envied our single-girl city holiday.

The shows we saw were:

I Love My Wife
Side by Side by Sondheim
A Chorus Line
The Wiz
For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide, When the Rainbow is Enough

WHITE CHRISTMAS is such a fun movie....such a classic.....and the stars so perfectly cast - I don't see the NEED for a Stage Version - although it will certainly keep the royalties rolling in for the IB catalog....but why go out and drive all the way to the theater, pay all that money, and put up with all those people....when you can just put in the DVD?

Good morning, all! And a Happy Thanksgiving day to all DRs!

And a happy birthday to DR Ginny's mother! I met her a long, long time ago; she was probably in her 60s then. I hope she has a great day.

DR tomovoz, what great news!

I have nothing else to report. Today seems like Sunday and it's only Thursday, so I feel I'm sounding like Gertrude Stein. I have work on a Frank Loesser show until I head out for festivities with DR FJL and a lot of fascinating scintillating folk.

I've had many memorable Turkey Days...usually when we were hosting the various "orphans" or displaced friends who were, for one reason or another, not going home to be with family on Thanksgiving.  Julieanne would cook a sumptious meal and we'd have anywhere from ten to 15 people for dinner.  We've also had many memorable ones where we have been the "orphans" and been invited to many friends' warm homes.

One of my most memorable was when I was in college and we were in tech rehearsals for a show, so none of us could get home.  We theatre students chipped in, bought the turkey, and all the trimmings and prepared our own feast.

Many of our Thanksgivings over the past few years have been when we chose to take our London trip.  Julieanne and I would go to Tesco or Marks & Spencer; each buy what we wanted to eat, prepare our meal either before or after we went and saw a play...Thanksgiving those times for me has been a play and chicken tikka.

Good morning!

Cold, brisk, and beautiful. Couldn't be a perfect Thanksgiving Day!

You want my favorite Thanksgiving story?

Okay, BK, you asked for it.

I love Thanksgiving.  I have very warm childhood memories of that holiday.

Every year, we would have a family gathering at our home.  My aunt, uncle and two cousins, as well as my half-brother Hersh and his family were always there.

We'd sit around the table and, after everybody had stuffed themselves, people would tell jokes.  My uncle, Kenneth, was the #1 storyteller, but on this particular year, I also decided to contribute to the merriment...with disastrous results.

I think it was 1954.  I would have been thirteen-years-old.

Without contemplating the consequences, I told this very funny joke that I'd heard at school, and I told it very well.

Correction.  I didn't just tell it very well.  I told it brilliantly.  I had a captive audience.

Then, I came to the punch line...which ended with the word "f**k".

My mother, who'd had a few too many drinks in her, started laughing hysterically.  No matter what else you say about her, she was a wonderful audience.

Unfortunately, everybody else at the table sat in a stunned silence.  If my mother hadn't been laughing, you could have heard a pin drop.

You see, in 1954, a thirteen-year-old boy did not say "f**k"...particularly in front of adults.

The first one to speak was my father.  Pointing at me, he started shouting at my mother, "You're the one who encourages him!  This is all your doing!"

Within two minutes, all of our very embarrassed guests had excused themselves and left our house.

I don't recall if I was sent to my room or not, but I know I never told another joke at Thanksgiving dinner.

I agree completely! And the DVD has REAL stars! (No slam on Steven Bogardus who I think is a fantastic actor.)

Happy Thanksgiving to one and all!

I truly am blessed to have good health, no financial worries, some fantastic friends, a job I love doing (even when the material isn't worthy). Plenty of reasons to be eternally grateful.

On TV Tonight!™

Not much to report.

CBS does have a new SURVIVOR.

NBC is showing THE INCREDIBLES during prime time. Last year it wasn't in HD. I'll be curious to see if it is this year.

Other networks are running reruns of their regular series tonight.

Of course, football fans will be in spasms of glory today with three NFL games going all day long.

Greetings everyone.

We are here on Long Island having a relaxing Turkey Day (so far). The weather is nice autumn weather. I woke up to very grey skies but it's now blue and sunny outside.

Happy Turkey Day to all!!!

Since there is nothing on TV tonight I particularly want to see, I should have no trouble finishing up the LOST set by the end of the evening. Then, starting tomorrow, I begin the Criterion Blu-rays. I have the first four releases waiting to be watched. I'll likely start with BOTTLE ROCKET.

I can't say enough about Bogardus - not a star, but he really knows how to take a stage and make you watch him.  He knows how to play the scenes and he understands his character.  The other guy - terrible.  Not only no star quality, but unfunny, trying to BE funny, which is the worst.  And after all I'd heard about his dancing, just a big bore with none of the personality or style it takes to be a great dancer.  Great dancing isn't just doing the steps.

Anthony's father is retiring. Tomorrow is his last day of work. He's excited. So is Anthony's mother although she is also worried about the fact that she will now have a husband around the house 24/7. I guess that happens a lot when husbands retire.

On tv tonight:

SURVIVOR is new but a recap show with new footage.

I'm not sure about SMALLVILLE. It says it is new on the CW website. So i'm going to record it.

That's it for now. We are seeing a friend tomorrow but we also might indulge in a little shopping. There are a few tech items that a geek finds hard to pass up so I might at least go and look.

We will be back in the city on Sunday and then Monday we begin the volunteer work. It will be quite the two weeks. We just got the word on how many bags have been requested. Last year we did 3,000. This year (I guess it's related to the economy) we have had requests for 3,700 bags!!! OMG, last year we just made it with 3 thousand. It will take some work to make 3,700. But it will happen, I'm sure.

I have to call various and sundry sisters and brothers (four of the female and two of the male) so it's time to leave.

Hugs and love to all, especially those hounds Toby and Dylan :-)

Guess I'll try to mosey on down to the exercise room, although I'm not really in the mood.  But I'll get myself in the mood.  It will help if no one else is there.
