What a busy, full, exhausting weekend, DR Ron Pulliam. Glad it was you and not me.

But, of course, pictures should be forthcoming so all of us can see the results of your handiwork. And, how about that Blu-ray? Naturally, you're already used to the look of high definition from the wonderful HD-DVD player you have, but I hope you've found Blu-ray equally impressive. I have never been able to tell a pin's worth of difference between the video or audio quality of the best discs. And, on both sides of the coin, there are discs that don't measure up to the best the formats have to offer.

DR Ron Pulliam - I'm exhaused, just reading all that.  But glad that the final media set up met your expectations!!  Have fun at the potluck.

Here is the finished product (Although it's too dark to see, the new Sony Blu-ray is included in the components on the second shelf). You can click on the photo tag to see the picture at a larger size:

The beauty part, for me, is that I can turn the TV to the far right and watch it while I'm in the kitchen cooking!!!

I find it a lot easier to simply have a small television in the kitchen.

TOD:

Oh, woe to those of us who work where muzak is piped in for the enjoyment of the shoppers.

Starting at Thanksgiving, and from then onwards for the Christmas Shopping Month, we get to listen to Christmas Songs, one after another.  We have no choice, it is piped in and there is no stopping the merriment playing in the air.

The problem is, we only get Christmas Songs.  Actual Christmas Carols are verbotten.  They are considered to be un-PC.

So, all we get is the same small selection of Christmas Songs, played over and over, albeit in several different arrangements by several different performers.

Does anyone out there understand how sick and tired a person can get of "White Christmas" and "Silver Bells" after a while?

Bleh.

I find it a lot easier to simply have a small television in the kitchen.

Easier than what?     ::)

Easier than trying to watch the television that is in the living room whilst I am performing miracles in the kitchen.

Of course, the fact that the television in the living room is against one side of the wall
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
that separates the kitchen from the livingroom, making it impossible to watch and cook at the same time, well that has something to do with the need for a small set in the kitchen.

(Line included as a visual aid.)

Amazon has alerted me that my Blu-ray copy of "The Dark Knight" is en route.

It is shipping out of Fernley, Nevada...so with luck, I'll have it tomorrow!

That's great....for you.

The ability to watch TV from my kitchen was not my purpose in getting the new TV stand, but it was a nice perk.  I have no counter space for a TV in the kitchen.  My kitchen is compact, to put it kindly.

My favorite Christmas song will always and forever (like Cats) be Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas - I'm partial to most versions, but especially Garland's and Callaway's and yes, even Guy Haines does the song okay.

Having my annual disparagement of Christmas Songs That Are Played Endlessly By Thoughtless Christmas Shopping Muzak Purveyers now officially out of the way, let me add that I'm fond of "Song For Ten", written by Murray Gold and performed by Neil Hannon as part of Doctor Who: The Christmas Invasion.  My, that was predictable, wasn't it!

And there's a lot to be said for celebratory music that really has nothing at all to do with the Holiday, but is cheerful and somehow fitting all on it's own, such as Benjamin Britten's Variations and Fugue on a Theme of Purcell, more generally known as The Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra.  In fact, a lot of classical and semi-classical music written for the younger of ear is wonderful at this time of year.

A compact kitchen - no larger than a powder room?
