Of course, there's no mention of Claudine Longet by name throughout this show, though she is shown occasionally.  Sort of sad.

Is she carrying a gun?

Count Three and Pray Page Seven Dance.

I hope it is in widescreen, I have only seen it in P/S.

Remember the sketch on Saturday Night Live about the Claudine Longet Ski Open?

I watched "Horton Hears a Who" last night.  I thought it was quite delightful

But then I love Seussical!

Oh, then you will be thrilled to know that Patti LuPone will be touring Oz in SEUSSICAL!

Then, since I was only a few blocks from the Lincoln Plaza Cinemas, I went ahead and caught the 1:05 showing of "Un Conte de Noël" ("A Christmas Tale"), the newest film by Arnaud Desplechin, which is headed by the still-stunning Catherine Deneuve.

It's a very hard to film to describe, and if any DR wants to know a bit more about the "plot", I'd say it's best to Google for some of the reviews.  It's one of those "slice of life" movies where everything and nothing happens.  It's a great mash-up of styles, both cinematically and musically (everything from Scarlatti to Cecil Taylor to Euro-Pop).  But...

It follows the lives of the various members of the Vuillard family over a period of a couple of days, the days preceding Christmas.  Each member of the family/cast is given their moment in the spotlight, with most of the action set in motion by the mother of the family, Junon (Mme. Deneuve) and her true black-sheep of the family, Henri (Mathieu Almaric - who is also the villain in the latest Bond flick).

It's not a film for everyone, and its running time of two and a half hours may be a little too long for it's own good, but I had a good time.  And even though the film does deal with some weighty matters - even a good dose of philosophy - it manages to bounce and veer from tangent to tangent with ease.  After seeing some more "heavier" material over the past 48 hours, it was nice just to sit back and enjoy the ride.  A very crazy ride.

Quatre biscuits

What?  No DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL?  That is the only holiday film that I am really eager to see.

I think MISSION ISTANBUL needs to be my next Bollywood movie (which I think I actually have on DVD someplace here).

I am not usually a fan of war films...but there are always exceptions.

I had a delightful Christmas card arrive from OzDereks' sister Maureen.

The caption under the photo of  a toddler sitting in a comfortable chair:

"After two hours of watching the Sound Of Music, Billy gave up on the will to live and slipped into a festive coma"

DS Zach just got the coolest late birthday gift--a poster for Coraline (not due for several more months) signed personally to him by director Henry Selick!  Isn't that neat?

The deed has been done.  Der Brucer and I have had dinner.

Yep, it was the Creamy Grits, with shrimp and broccoli.

The butter was oozing out of the grits, literally.  If I want butter on anything I'm eating for the next week, all I'll need to do is think of the grits, and the need for more butter will be gone.

Please remember, this is restaurant food, and a restaurant recipe.  It is billed as being luxurious.  That being said, while the grits were indeed creamy, they lacked punch.  Der B added more than a couple of grindings of pepper to his serving.

I declined to serve the Shrimp and Grits they way they are served at the Old Post Office, with a Mousseline Sauce.  The recipe for the sauce is basically a hollandaise, with a couple of tablespoons of heavy cream added.  It struck me that this would amount to gilding the lily.

There is lots of grits left over.  They should be interesting, formed into cakes and fried up for breakfast.  I won't even have to add any fat to the frying pan!

I am so tired! I got up at 7am to go to the mall. They were giving out free chocolates and wrapping paper.

Then i stayed at the mall, went to Toys R Us and then Costco. Then my dad had his birthday dinner (chocolate mousse cake from costco).  Oh before that i went over and helped my sis decorate her tree.

Well she is pregnant. So she sat and passed ornaments to my niece who barked orders saying who should put which ornaments where.

My sister's satellite has not been working since yesterday due to the storm. So she may have to come over to watch the Survivor finale tomorrow (i'm very excited to see it).

Only problem is tomorrow is the finale of Dexter and she records it for me (it's on the movie network here). It replays on thursday at least.

Got the day off from rehab tomorrow - it's Family Day, when the inmates get visits (once a month) from loved ones... I don't really mind - but I do love that gig!! Next week, we'll make holiday ornaments. They loved the wreath project last week. So did I... love that gig!!! Once a week I get to play with art supplies!!
