The deed has been done. Der Brucer and I have had dinner.
Yep, it was the Creamy Grits, with shrimp and broccoli.
The butter was oozing out of the grits, literally. If I want butter on anything I'm eating for the next week, all I'll need to do is think of the grits, and the need for more butter will be gone.
Please remember, this is restaurant food, and a restaurant recipe. It is billed as being luxurious. That being said, while the grits were indeed creamy, they lacked punch. Der B added more than a couple of grindings of pepper to his serving.
I declined to serve the Shrimp and Grits they way they are served at the Old Post Office, with a Mousseline Sauce. The recipe for the sauce is basically a hollandaise, with a couple of tablespoons of heavy cream added. It struck me that this would amount to gilding the lily.
There is lots of grits left over. They should be interesting, formed into cakes and fried up for breakfast. I won't even have to add any fat to the frying pan!
