Good morning, all! I'm off to Miami U again for a trip to the library and a festive luncheon.  So far, no snow.

After that, I may have to drive to Miamisburg to the Fed Ex center to pick up two cartons no one's been here to sign for (my fault! mea culpa). Jo's getting ready for her last day of work for 10 days so we can run around a lot.

My fave Disney live action is 20,000 LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA although I've always been partial to the Richard Todd STORY OF ROBIN HOOD as well.  In the category of live action and animation, MARY POPPINS heads the list followed by RETURN TO OZ and DARBY O'GILL.

I am contemplating an alternative route for Son-In-Law, starting tomorrow:

From Nashville TN
I20 to Chattanooga TN
I75 to Atlanta
I20 to Columbia SC

Next day:

I20 to Florence SC
I95 to Washington DC
Any thoughts?

The main objective is to avoid steep hills while towing a large trailer.

re: driving in the snow

I don't mind driving if there is snow on the grass (pretty much all the time here). But i don't like driving when the main roads are snow covered. Although even worse is ice covered.

We had 2 snow storms last week. And i think we are getting another one tomorrow. Another problem is that there are a lot of cars, and they drive quite fast.

I wouldn't really mind driving on a snow covered road if there were no other cars on the road.

We're in for weather in the 60s all week. This is December? I'm not complaining. My heat hasn't popped on once this morning.

Regarding yesterday's posting regarding the music from the film 300

Shortly after the film was released, there was considerable controversy as regards Tyler Bates's score. It was pointed out that Bates' music heavily borrowed from Elliot Goldenthal's score for Titus (1999). In particular, Bates' "Remember Us" is identical in parts to Goldenthal's "Finale", and "Returns a King" is very similar to "Victorius Titus." There was talk of an impending lawsuit, however, on 3rd August 2007, Warner Bros. Pictures acknowledged on the film's official website, "a number of the music cues for the score of 300 were, without our knowledge or participation, derived from music composed by Academy Award winning composer Elliot Goldenthal for the motion picture Titus. Warner Bros. Pictures has great respect for Elliot, our longtime collaborator, and is pleased to have amicably resolved this matter."

The "without our knowledge or participation" part isn't there anymore.

No UPS deliveries this morning so far, so it looks like I'm having another day off.

Among the things I have planned to watch barring any review copies arriving is the old DVD version of THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL. I've only watched it once or twice since I bought it, and I want to see it upconverted to see if I'm going to be tempted to spring for the Blu-ray version. All of the reviews have been very complimentary about the video upgrade, but as it's a movie I only revisit occasionally, I need to see what the DVD looks like on my latest equipment.

I also recorded off HBO-HD, P.S. I LOVE YOU, a movie I've only seen in bits and pieces during its previous broadcasts. I haven't seen the beginning or the ending, so I want to see those parts (and maybe the whole thing). I have to say that despite its getting mediocre to poor reviews, I've liked what I've seen so far.

And while I cook and eat lunch, I have last night's BIG BANG THEORY and the rest of THE WIZARD OF OZ to watch.

So, combined with a lot of TV shows with new episodes tonight, looks like my day is pretty much planned out entertainment-wise.

Hello, everyone.
My home sale fiasco appears to be over now: the buyers withdrew their offer yesterday. I really thought this one would fly, despite all the problems. I learned last night that the buyers' agent misrepresented my offer, saying that I had elected NOT to do all the repairs, which was the opposite of my position. So there may be some fallout.

A friend in California, who is quite savvy in real estate, told me that he has had numerous problems with home inspectors and said that many deliberately falsify the reports to try to get a better deal for the buyers. I have heard this from others as well. As if the current market needs yet another problem!

It was indeed bad news, but I will take a break, then press on.

So...

I went to the post office this morning to pick up a package from Amazon that was supposedly an "attempted delivery" this past Saturday morning... Of course, there were at least three people here at the apartment this morning, and even I was still here according to the "attempted time of delivery"... :-\  In any case..

I had gone by there yesterday... No line at the Pick-Up Window!  Alas, I forgot to bring my ID with me, so... Ah, well... So, since I happened to be up early this morning, I went ahead and walked up there around 8:30...  Of course, there was only one service window open - with about 15 people in line, and there were about 6 people in line in front of me at the "Pick Up Window".  And, of course, it was taking the clerk anywhere from five to ten minutes to find and retrieve and process each package.  Well...

A very dear, dear woman walked in.  Bright eyes.  Big smile...

"Good Morning, Everybody! WOW! This must be THE popular place today. Look at all these people in line to mail their Christmas cards to their friends and family. So, who's going to let me in line in front of them?..."

That's when everyone in line tried to squish together to make sure she didn't get in the line. Well...

"Are you sure I can't get in line in front of you? I only have one letter to mail. Shouldn't take too long at all. Will you be late for work? Where do you work?... Oh, Downtown! Wall Street or at the Courts?.. WOW! Wall Street! You young people really do like living on the edge!..."

"How old are you?... 42!... You know, my first job here in New York City was down on 42nd Street! Isn't that a coincidence?!? And our newly elected President is just 44, that's close to 42 too! Isn't that amazing!....Where are you from?... Oh, Australia! Isn't that where Hitler is from?... Oh, it's south of there?... How far south? Is that where you're from?... Victoria?!? Like the Queen? You know, there's also a Victoria near Japan. Oh! Did I tell you that I speak Chinese? Do you speak Chinese? Spanish?... Well, I also speak Japanese. I only know one word; Sayonara!.. I'm 22 years older than you, and I speak Chinese and Japanese!... I don't know which dialect, I just speak it. But we're all God's children. One, Three in One God. Praise Him from whom all Blessings flow! Praise the Lord!..."

I even ended up staying a bit longer after I picked up my parcel just to see how her transaction at the window would go...

"Oh? You can't confirm the address of my friend? I know I have it somewhere in a Powerpoint presentation at home, but I just wanted to make sure I remembered it correctly. I thought you could look it up in the phone book to confirm it for me... So, if it's not the right address, will the letter come back to me?... Oh, OK. If it comes back, I'll just look up the address then, and send it again... Can you make sure it's closed on the back?... Oh, OK, do you have some tape then? Thank you. And I made sure to use up all my 2-cent stamps too.... Oh, I need a few more? OK... Well, I hope this letter makes it to my friend. Thank you, and have a Blessed Day!"

I LOVE NEW YORK!!!
