The Squirrel Chases always took place at the same time as the Tennis Ball Eating Contests.  I could only be in one place at a time.

My question for ASK BK day.....which films do you think most accurately captured the fashion of the day?

I don't think we can include a film like FUNNY FACE - while it was a perfect picture of 1957 couture - it's subject was fashion - so I mean a film where the clothes were not the focus, but did show us how people dressed at that time the film was made....so no period pictures, please.

I'd have to think about movies, but MAD MEN sure does it for TV. Unbelievable how that series just takes you right back to 1960/1963 for the first two seasons.

And the sublettor just woke up... And now she's rushing around trying to figure out what to do since she was supposedly hosting a small lunch here for some of her friends at Noon... And she had meant to make a grocery store run earlier this morning so that she could cook said lunch...

A bit warmer this morning, and the clouds have been playing hide and seek with the sun all morning. Presently the clouds are winning, and we ARE supposed to get rain today, so I guess that's as it should be.

DR George - I don't think "Letterman" ran over last night.  Does your DVR/Tivo have the time slot set from 11:38-12:38?

I have a 2 1/2 hour made-for-TV film waiting for me this afternoon: CARTESIUS. I can't say that I'm exactly looking forward to it after yesterday's 4 1/4 hour marathon mini-series (though the last third really was fascinating and a great way to end an otherwise ponderous experience).

I AM looking forward to watching last night's LEVERAGE while I eat lunch today. That should be very entertaining. And I'll likely start on disc 2 of NCIS-Season Three today, too. Tonight, I'll likely find a movie to watch. I have a few here to pick from.

I understand completely. I guess I just wanted another chance to plug the great MAD MEN.

The first one that leaps to mind is TO CATCH A THIEF. I think the styles are kind of overdone in something like THE WOMEN (certainly Roz Russell's clothes), but I'd have to watch the movie again to get a good sense of what all of the other women are wearing.

DR FJL - I had indeed planned to bring some cookies tomorrow - at least one batch of my Chocolate-Chip-Oatmeal-Pecan-Toffee ones.  However, I didn't realize that I may be competing for oven time here at the apartment tonight and tomorrow morning.  So...

I'm bringing cookies. 

*But don't let that deter Skip from making a dessert or two.

My mom and niece have scrubbed their trip to Michigan, so we're having our dinner for 7 tonight.  Cranberry Pork Roast is in the crockpot, green beans will soon be simmering with ham, and I'm about to start a batch of caramel corn.  That last isn't for dinner, but for some gifts that we want to deliver tomorrow.

THIEF is a good choice.  My first thought was PILLOW TALK for Doris's Jean Louis clothes and Rock and Tony's very nice suits and jackets.  1959 never looked so good.

For years, I thought that dress Doris wore to the nightclub was black.....but it is a deep maroon/or plum red....wow!

Most of Roger Corman's contemporary movies are good, too.  Jackie Joseph has said that wardrobe coordinator Marj Corso had a budget and just took the girls to JAX where they bought clothes off the rack for everyone.

Some of the actresses in B movies also furnished their own wardrobe.

What was the to do with the producers of Grey Gardens?

There was a whole lot of drama surrounding the closing of the show and the reasons for it.  I believe by that point the producers had alienated their leading lady and others - you can probably Google and find the story.

We hunkered down and watch Wall-E on BD last night--very sweet film, probably my fave Pixar since Toy Story 2.

North By Northwest comes to mind - Casablanca - I'm sure others will think of others.
