Singdaw -  Am I a yutz or what for actually having supplied you with the colander picture/  :)  :)

Not a yutz, no.  It was a very singdavian thing to do, however.  Very singdavian.

Playing right as I write: Paul O'Dette on Elizabethan lute music.

Nice, quiet day yesterday... A nice walk through the neighborhood, hit the treadmill and stationary bike at the local community club house gym, a little (VERY little) writing on my thesis, some gratifying playage of my guitar (Bach is so soothing), and a short amble through the ol' Albertson's to get a few groceries. Monk was on ALL day, so I caught a few episodes here and there.

Wrote and answered happy noo yeer greetings. And that was my day. So here we are, IN the year 2009... oh, boy, where does it go when it goes???

Happy second day of January 2009.

I am in the "throes" of a head/chest cold.  It began as a tickle in my throat and remained lodged there as it worsened.

I was pretty much in a stupor all day yesterday because of it.  I thought of visiting HHW.com to ask scrimshaw how to move past that, but realized he hasn't posted about having a cold.

Today I am hacking up great gobs of goop.  I'm hoping to feel better by tomorrow.

Whatever you've got a hankering for, you'll find a stew for it in this book. Pork, chicken, beef, game, fish, shellfish, even vegetables, beans and fruits can be transformed into sumptuous one-pot wonders. Savor Mother's Old-Fashioned Oyster Stew, hunker down with Braised Bourbon Rosemary Beef, revel in Chicken Gumbo Ya Ya. Fell like a walk on the wild side? How about Low Country Stewed Rabbit Smothered with Onions, Minnesota Braised Pheasant with Wild Rice or Tennessee Quail Burgoo? For those meals when you want the satisfaction but not the meat, try Cajun Maque Choux, Jack Czarnecki's Stewed Wild Mushrooms or California Vegetable and Chickpea Chili. And don't put your stewpot away just yet—there's still dessert. Enjoy the heady flavors of Bucks County Stewed Spiced Pears or Stewed Gingered Figs.

Stew just wouldn't be stew without biscuits to sop up every last tantalizing mouthful. Jim has assembled a red, white and blue collection of America's best—Old-Fashioned Beaten Biscuits, Texas Fried Soda Biscuits, Crackling Yeast Biscuits—thirteen in all.

O'Dette on Elizabethan lute music.

I didn't realize that Odetta had recorded an Elizabethan album.    ;)

Hello, everyone.

Well, I am definitely losing it. My memory is kaput. This morning I reached into a drawer for a certain sweater, only to find that I've already packed it. I suspect there will be more of that!
Then Matt showed up. He says he told me he would be here on Friday, but I have no recollection of that, either. In any case, I put him to work. I have lots of phone calls and other personal business to do today, so he can do more of the packing.

I loved this mini-series when I first saw and and I'm loving it now, too. Ian Richardson is absolutely superb.

It's time I made attempts at morning coffee.

I'm thinking about  a quick drive to Peet's with a short stop at La Farine to see if they have any more ham-cheese pastries.

I need to get out of this condo for at least 15 minutes today.  SO tired of being cooped up.

Perhaps we need a variation of the Funky Monkey, ie, the Cheeky Monkey. Would this be the first HHW dance?

You people are so inconsistent.  You love monkeys but hate choosters.  ;)

I believe the SCROOGE in hell segment was one that was regularly cut for the t.v. broadcast version.  I kind of like it--Guinness is a lot of fun in it.  And if you have the super-deluxe SCROOGE souvenir book (there were actually two, believe it or don't), you know that his "song" actually had several verses, the lyric to which is reproduced.  I think they got one whiff of Guinness' "voice" and decided to wisely cut most of the "tune."

I can never think of a buttered roll without thinking of Woody Allen's delightful early 1970's essay, "A Guide to Some of the Lesser Ballets."       :)

DR Nursie, it's the Albert Finney SCROOGE I detest, much as I like the cast. I remember seeing it and thinking that, while it wasn't a LOST HORIZON disaster, it was just a very ugly film. I probably should watch it again sometme to see if my opinion's changed. I much prefer Alastair Sim, George C Scott and Patrick Stewart adaptations.

I just ordered SCROOGE from Amazon.com; I'll rewatch it.

I meant to be generic, that of all SCROOGE & CHRISTMAS CAROL movies, the Albert Finny one is my favorite.  It is because I never liked any of the versions up until then & I enjoyed Albert Finny so much.  I think I was over exposed to the Mr. Magoo one as a child which I hated with a passion.  I wish I had read A CHRISTMAS CAROL before I ever saw it.
