I know that I read the notes, but I can't recall what today's topic of discussion is.  Hm...

A wonderful article in the LA TIMES MAGAZINE today called the GOLDEN AGE OF MEDIOCRITY, which talks about our over-hyped society wherein mediocrity is constantly dubbed (erroneously) "genius".  My favourite line is the one where Britney Spears'voice is described as being "so thin there are those who suspect she lip-syncs her interviews."

And apparently Plymouth University tested the old adage if you put monkeys at a typewriters, they will eventually produced a work the equal of Shakespeare.  One of the professors said that basically the monkeys were "more interested in defecating and urinating on the keyboards."

Oh, WOW!  ;D

(I cut it down to one smiley.  I thought that three was over doing it.  Three smilies should be saved for truly special occasions such as...mystery meat day in the cafeteria!)

That's hilarious!

Though I don't know if anyone has ever gone so far to label Britney Spears a "genius."  Most people seem to realize that she's gotten to where she is based on her looks, sex appeal and knack for publicizing herself.  Yet they continue to buy her records... ??? ???

It's about fifty degrees here.  Supposed to be up near 60 the next couple days!  A real heatwave after some light snow on Friday! :)

It' loverly.  I shall go for a walk shortly, then the lovely wife and I will watch the sun go down on the Hollywood sign whilst soaking in the jacuzzi with a glass of vino or bubbly ( we will be soaking in the Jacuzzi, not the Hollywood sign).

Sadly, Maya, the article quotes a least one serious reviewer talking about Spears' "genius".

DR Charles Pogue,  maybe Britney is a genius.  Don't you think it takes real smarts to maintain that vacuous idiocy she calls an existence?  Maybe she's the Lorelei Lee of the millenium.

I do think spring has finally sprung in Oregon! The sky is clear and the sun is shining! It is warm and beautiful outside!  I had not planned on working out in the yard today but I fell I must take advantage of this lovely day...besides everytime I look out my kitchen window all I see are weeds and branches that fell during the snow storm  :-\

Yesterday I watched a most wonderful motion picture entertainment on DVD. The Guru! It was sooo funny and a very good feel good movie. I highly recommend it to all DRs! It is about an Indian gent who moves to America in search of fame and fortune. He wants to be an actor!  It spoofs Bollywood films but is more of an American movie. Co-stars Christine Baranski. Thanks to DR JRand53 for telling me about it!

Enjoyed the article JRand53. At least they didn't misspell your name! LOL!

And it looks like a very nice line-up of plays there. I am intrigued by the baseball one!

ACK!  Such things justify the idea of a Journalism License--and his should be taken away.

Thanks for the compliments on the new pic, guys!  I was sick of the old.

And she did win a couple of Golden Globe awards for the show, so maybe that is what I remember as well.

DR Jed it was supposed to be the period that went awry.....but well....if you have to explain a joke it isn't working.

Thanks DRs Panni, Dinto, and MBARNUM for commenting on our season.  Yes, DRDinTO send the link to your friend and tell him LOVING LUCY starts March 18th - LOL!  And DRPanni if you are ever in Indy, drop by the theatre!

Yes, it is nearly time for a new picture for myself as well....inspired by DRMAYA.  Perhaps in a week or so.

I am on my way to a board meeting, but hopefully will be home in time for another lively CHAT!!!

Why, oh tell me, don't they just have a "Accept Cookie:  Yes  No" pop-up?

They do, Blanche, they do!

In your Control Panel Settings, under Internet Options, Security, select the Advanced Options - there you will be able to opt for having a "Prompt" before a "cookie" is loaded.

Is anyone else's computer displaying the posts in super skinny columns starting with Matt's post #79?  I've "refreshed" my browser several times and it's still that way.

[addendum:  Disregard this message.  The problem has been fixed.]

Why has Johnny Horton's Battle of New Orleans been running through my head all day (It's been running through my head just like the British have been running through briar and running through brambles, running through the bushes where a rabbit couldn't go, they are running so fast the hounds cannot catch 'em, down the Missipissi to the Gulf of Mexico)?
