Tuesday morning greetings! I just saw Richard off to London (Ohio) for church business and I'm trying to figure out how to spend my day.

The title of today's notes reminds me of the only community theater show I did after DR Elmore (my favorite director) left town - Company. I played Sarah and the oaf who played Harry was absolutely certain that "a piece of Mahler's" referred to candy.

No AMERICAN IDOL for me at least until the Hollywood rounds. This is exactly how I did it last year (though I did watch the audition round held in Charleston, SC since I'm a native of SC and have been to Charleston many times). I'm going to be curious to see how Paula reacts to another female on the panel over the course of the season.

Much as I dread it, I'll be working on NATIONAL LAMPOON'S STONED AGE today, and frankly will be glad to get it out of the way. Sad to say, 2008 was not a kind year for live action Paramount comedies. I've had to suffer this year through STRANGE WILDERNESS, DRILLBIT TAYLOR, and THE LOVE GURU plus the direct-to-video WITHOUT A PADDLE: NATURE'S CALLING and from other studios DISASTER MOVIE, COLLEGE ROAD TRIP, and THE WOMEN, and not a half dozen funny jokes among the lot of them.

Edmund Purdom was also in TITANIC with Barbara Stanwyck and Clifton Webb, playing Herbert Lightoller, who was played by Kenneth More in A NIGHT TO REMEMBER.

I had read about Edmond Purdom's passing and while he was never a great actor or a great star, it's still sad to be losing all of these famous names from their 1950s heydays.

There's always someone looking for someone/something to vilify, and that sometimes makes the internet a very pissy place.

I think Alec Baldwin should just laugh and laugh every time he wins an award for "30 Rock" or makes a TV appearance and thank Bill O'Reilly for declaring his career "dead."

Sean Penn was one of those O'Reilly condemned to a career death, too...before he won his Oscar!

My local PBS station (KQED) has been airing "The Story of India" -- showing two parts on Monday evenings the past two weeks. It's a six-part series and it's spectacular in high def.

I pre-ordered the BD version on Amazon this morning.

I, mentioned the term "moksha" last week, but never referenced where I'd heard it. One of the episodes went into great detail about Buddha and wheels and paths and such esoteric stuff as that.

It's a really good series.

I think I pretty much knew what Sondheim meant when I first heard "a piece of Mahler's" but I took it to heart that it was how then-trendy (early 70's) chic New Yorkers talked. And while I don't think I ever actually used the phrase myself, I'm sure in the back of my mind I thought I was taking in "a piece of Beethoven's" or "a piece of Tchiakovsky's" everytime I attended an orchestra concert.
